I've been using Altrom products from NAPA. I find their seals and valve cover gaskets to be equal to OEM and a lot less costly. I think they also have head gaskets and are worth a look. PS. I learned a lot about Subaru freeze plugs from this thread.

A long time ago my car had a problem like this. Cranked but wouldn't start. When it did start it ran like crap. Turned out to be one of the environmental sensors. I don't remember which one. Sounds like you need to clear your computer codes and then see if you can get any valid codes to work from.

+1 on checking the vacuum line - same thing happened to me. Fixed the problem in 10 seconds.

Do both wheels. If one is bad the other is not far behind.

I can only suggest start backtracking from the plug. Do you have an in line spark tester ? That would help to verify if power was reaching the plugs.

Automatic EA82 trannys can go well over 200k miles. That's not tranny smoke. Looks like white smoke to me indicating an engine problem of some sorts. Search this forum for 'white smoke'. You'll find lots of discussion.

Car died 2 times on the commute home last night, Very violent stumbling , then engine dies. This type of behavior is a good indication of a fuel problem. Electrical problems are usually sudden death without the hurt dance. Mechanical problems are accompanied by lots of noise, smoke or vibration. Usually a fuel pump works or does not. Not necessarily. My experience was a slow progressive development of no start problems accompanied by the engine sputtering out while driving down the road. That being said, if you have replaced the fuel pump then it can be eliminated as a cause. I would look downline in the fuel system to see if there was another cause for a fuel interruption.

Sounds like a temperature sensor problem, But try a search for "temperature sensor" in this forum and you will find several threads with problems similar to your situation and recommended solutions. You may recognize your problem in the discussions.

Loud squeals are not right. Something is wrong and it needs to be fixed.

4 main things to check spark, fuel, compression, and timing. +1 make sure there is spark at the plugs. make sure the engine is getting fuel

I got a big boost in gas mileage,(4 mpg), after I replaced an oxygen sensor. It was also the cause of intermittent check engine light, but read the engine light code to be sure.

Rubbing alcohol is sometimes used to remove unwanted latex paint from surfaces. Not sure how practical it will be for an entire car.

When I do that, I drill a hole in the bolt and use an easy-out bit, or just drill the bolt out completely and retap the hole.

LilySapphire's wiring looks correct. I used the same kit and it is pretty straight forward. If the fuse is blowing then there must be another reason, but I don't know what it is.

Added a starter relay, Everyone says eventually it's needed Wasn't having problems, but I figured, why wait ? Bought the BOSCHE off Amazon. Easy to install.

Certainly sounds like a fuel pump problem to me.

A small hammer and tappity , tappity until it's in.

If you do one do both. I was able to do all without pulling the radiator on mine.

My guess is probably the fuel pump. Rap on it with something like a screwdriver handle. Sometimes that will get it going again, at least temporarily until a replacement can be found.
