  1. How many inches is it and is it combo of body and suspension or just one?
  2. Theres an 81 Brat down here at the yard. 4x4 with 1800. PM for details on where it is.
  3. ShawnW replied to mcbrat's topic in Off Road
Somehow that brat is still "pretty".
  4. I heard theres a 1500 car meet out there somewhere from a friend and WRX owner....just a tip.
  5. Kudos to you all! This is One of my favorite mods and accs from the 80's, right up there with Brat T-Tops and jumpseats. I await the day I get my vanagon running so I can invest some time into putting the 81 Vanagon cyclops retrofit into it (the 84 has A/C and alot more hurdles to jump over than the 81 did).
  6. Same question but ea81 wagons as well.
  7. That'd probably be the timing set incorrectly. Oh and welcome back and enjoy your charter icon.
  8. Camping and wheeling! Possible running and operational vanaroo to show off soon but it aint wheeling! Shawn
  9. Re-use the bolts, never re-use the gaskets. LH drill bit should get the bolt out of its place. You may need to take a small chisel to the bolt in a reverse fashion to kindof persuade it in the right direction--I hope you know what i mean. I have done 5-10 of these repairs without much problem. Worst case scenerio isn't that bad...insert the head with a Timesert.
  10. Tow strap from Autozone ~15 bucks and a heavy car or a truck will pull it that distance without an issue.
  11. Yep 2.2. Theres a few 2.5's out there.
  12. Timing belt is VERY doable in the van on mine, in fact I had mine apart and it was easier in a Vanagon than in a Subaru. Extrodinarily easy if you do it with the cat and muffler off.
  13. They dont cause a rattle like that. Usually its a loose bolt on the latches.
  14. Id like to live in the same state as you again. Westward ho the wagons to where they don't use salt! A few days ago I found 2 wagons in the junkyard, one had 361K and the other 389K and both looked like they would have driven into the yard.
  15. Fluid swapping is my guess as these are known for that. If so check the reduction gear for damage.
  16. Pull plug wires one at a time and see which one has the least affect on how it runs if any of them. If one (or 2) dont have a lot of change do a compression test.
  17. Post a pic of tell me the markings on your block heater and I can see if I have one lying around that is smaller.
  18. If you are afraid of the wiring check out the vendor forum, i offer this service. Has anybody tried using the ej22 power steering lines?
  19. Completely interchangable and no spring compressor needed.
  20. Remember cooling systems work because they are under pressure. A leak of any kind (head gasket) will cause a loss of pressure and cooling capacity. Its a head gasket and if you continue to drive it you will warp the block so consider parking it until you can afford to fix it properly. I assume you have around 120K miles on the car which would also point to HG. These radiators are really good on these cars, last longer than the head gaskets by ALOT.
