opinions on an EJ 18 swap vs. EJ22
Thats a great price, should make the adapter plate seem cheaper too. Id say go for it.

Ground effects kit
Im going to be looking for a way to ship a ground effects kit. Has anybody here done it before? Im talking about one from an 88 RX and its going from CO to WA for Danbob. Im concerned about the overall length but was considering making a box with 2x4's if necessary.

Lots of wiggling on the switches on the door jam usually cleans the contacts so they start working again.

Qustion:
Its the ECS light and when its illuminated you can read the codes off the ECU. ECU is right above your knees when sitting in the drivers seat behind the kick panel bolted to the bottom of the steering column. Look for the LED blinking on the side of the ECU and count the long short morse code. Example: LONG LONG SHORT is 21 Long SHORT SHORT SHORT SHORT is 14. Report back with the number and we can tell you whats next.

EA82T head cracking, not your average question...
I cant really see where the crack is in the picture. If the crack is simply between the two ports for the exhaust I dont think it will be a problem.

EJ22 Rebuild Tips?
ShawnW replied to americanyouth's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou dont have to pull the wrist pins out on an ej motor. You can pound them out from the opposite side.

Gonna replace clutch soon...engine vs trans
Depends on if the engine or tranny need servicing but I agree the easier pull is the trans if you have the lift.

My new project, Air Cooled Vanagon to Subaru EJ22 Conversion
Found and pulled front and rear heater cores from an 89 water cooled Vanagon today. Part of the fun of doing an air cooled conversion. Ill probably put the rear core in first and do the front later but might just go for it right away. Who knows.

Send me an email if you want to meet me at a shop that I am selling parts for. Its in Denver near Santa Fe and the Gates plant. There are some RX body panels in there that are a PITA to ship and would love to sell locally instead.

amp. output of XT turbo alt?
XT Turbos sometimes have a 70, sometimes a 60 but its still better than the 50 or so that the ea81/ea82 carb one usually has. XT6 is 90 amp but serpentine belt always. The XT turbo sometimes has a v belt but usually a serp too. Be prepared to find a v belt pulley to bolt on, most alt shops will charge around 20 bucks to change it and will have to dig thru alot of bins before they find the right one. A Mazda or Mitsubishi car v belt pulley is said to work but I need to verify this.

Carbed block in Turbo wagon without a turbo??
Just don't run it very hard or you will blow the pistons into pieces.

SVX ASSISTANCE! I found one! I need some help before buying it though
ShawnW replied to Exare's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIm not sure how they came to 950 for a torque converter unless they went into the tranny too. The engine is amazing but parts are hard to come by and are expensive...heck the whole car is that way. But for $1000 if you like Subarus, like working on Subaru's and dont mind pouring a little money in here and there you will enjoy the beast.

poll: who likes their weber?
I think ya gotta remember to compare apples to apples here. A rebuilt Weber versus a 20 year old Hitachi carb is not a fair comparison. For a street rig or anything that isn't going to see mud I don't see the point of the weber. I would go to EFI a long time before a weber as it compensates for altitude, handles smog inspection easier, and gets better mileage. For an mud machine I might go with the weber but I would also rebuild the engine, scrap the exhaust and try SPFI with the grease tricks first. Id also relocate the oxygen sensor as this would be one of the first things to mess with the fuel system. Hiding the ECU up high and sealing things up isn't impossible.

$150 Brat
Well it should go to court if he lost his license so go testify that you turned them in.

Need measurements
8"x5.5"x2" (seems very wrong using inches to measure Subaru parts). You might have some luck going thru online catalogs of similar vintage cars like Nissan/Datsun, Mazda, etc. www.advanceautoparts.com would be frustrating but it does have pics with measurements on alot of these parts. Watch ebay as I remember seeing them on there real often.
