  1. Yes cycling the key also clears this. You put the key to ign on with the battery terminal disconnected then reconnect the terminal and put the key off and then start the car and it clears out.
  2. You can replace the neck. It has a hose at one end to connect to the tank that is about 1.25" and then a few screws and hoses in the right rear to unbolt and move. Go order a new one at the dealer (probably not cheap but what ya going to do>?) and you will see how it works.
  3. Did the radiator get filled and bled? You need a spill free funnel and to run the car until the radiator fans cycle on and off once before trying to drive it. If you didnt do that you have an air pocket in the cooling system somewhere not allowing the coolant to flow properly.
  4. Driveshafts can be rebuilt by a shop that specializes in this. We send them out at the dealer all the time. I think ours go out to Greeley but I dont know for sure. I can PM you back tomorrow if you want to know where. I think its around 250 for one and they redo the u joints and the carrier bearing. Heres another place in Denver:+ http://www.coloradodriveshaft.com/
  5. I believe its stored in the cluster itself. You have to take the cluster to the dealer and have them send it in to be reprogrammed to your odometer reading or find a shop that specializes in this. Personally I would think making a verified notarized statement of mileage and inserting the new cluster at 0 would be ok too though you might google what the laws require for correct odometer readings.
  6. Left side of the car left of the steering column way up under the dash. Its on a bracket with the main relay that is brown and square and the fuel relay is silver with a green plug in. No power or ground going to the fuel pump is a start. The power wire is black with a red tracer and the larger wire coming out of the fuel pump. The ground is light green with a black tracer. You can add ground or power to the fuel pump manually to see what you are lacking to make the engine run and go from there.
  7. The only problem with that setup is the bolts into the body are very hard to tighten and access in certain spots. I do however have that exact type of setup on mine. Id just head out to the junkyard and look at the Toyota and nissan trucks.
  8. I actually have his SPFI setup in a box ready to mail to him.
  9. I have one almost like that same brand and like it too.
  10. This seems as good a place as any. Thread gets a sticky as this is a key member and moderator that sells a lot of stuff on this forum so I want all interested parties to see it.
  11. Key on the crank down. The arrows on the cam gears point at 2:00 roughly and when they are that way there will be notches in the edge of the gear that point at 12:00. Those line up with the solid marks on the timing belt and the dotted line goes at the crank.
  12. I couldn't agree more but sometimes technology can go into a restoration without compromising it. Also, that rockauto gasket isnt a genuine subaru part and the tube of fuji bond is so where do you draw the line? Also...would a restoration leak oil? As "notorious" as these Subaru engines are for leaking oil with proper technique and materials they don't have to. I am not saying Subiemech didnt use the propers here just my opinion on how I rationalize things when I repair my turbo brat and other older vehicles that might be considered by some to be collector cars or future collector cars.
  13. Im in Westminster, CO which is NW of Denver by 10 minutes.
  14. Most Subaru dealers are running a car care clinic this month and may have a free battery test promotion going on. It only takes about 5 minutes and it load and system tests the battery. Piece of mind is nice to have. I have seen a lot of brand new batteries under the hoods of Subarus that needed a Starter solenoid rebuild or the starter replaced. That click is usually the starter contacts failing or being dirty, corroded, etc. Its a cheap fix to do yourself too. While its nice to have a new battery you can be masking the problem by throwing more amps at it and getting by for a while.
  15. To those that dont like framed door windows: So you dont like frameless windows. But you dont like wind noise. And you like to shut your door using the glass and screw up the gussets and want them covered under warranty? Did you know that gusset alone is over 100 dollars?!?! Oh you dont want a CVT? Well get a manual trans! God forbid that us lazy americans should have to shift a car like the rest of the world seems content with. Oh and the CVT is part of Subarus answer to try to combat the USA requirements for gas mileage and emissions standards. The same country that lets the big three build V8 monsters for years and guzzle up all the cheap gas and leave the problem for future generations to solve. Like our 4 cyl cars were ever even close to as smoggy as a Hummer H2 or other land yacht. And who opened the I think its ugly can of worms again? Every new model that comes out this happens. Its a Subaru. Pretty would be nice but thats not the point. Its the features, its the versitility, and its the quality that counts. If you want pretty get a BMW. We thought the 02 WRX was ugly when it came out. We thought the new Forester was ugly last year. We thought the SVX was ugly. We thought the 08 WRX was ugly. And we still let them grow on us and buy them. So what if we have idiot lights for temp now. We whined about oil lights doing the same thing a generation ago. Big deal. Its not like that needle really tells you what temp it is anyway. Its saying, well, im cold, well im normal, and well im hot. The light does the same darn thing. Wow. We still dont change our oil, coolant or air filters as a general public. We still cant crack an owners manual and READ IT. We still think that warranty should cover stuff when its our fault. Some things will never change but at least things are improving. That CVT might be a "POS" but if it improves mileage by 5MPG it pays for itself in a very short time. Sock away the money and have the trans rebuilt or replaced. If it doesnt fail, heres a little gift...its called a savings account. Most americans dont have one. End rant.
  16. Keep this thread on topic and not political party slamming please. 1st and only warning.
  17. Get a tube of fuji bond from Subaru. They may call it 3 bond at your local dealer. Its probably 25 bucks but good stuff. Ditch the cork gasket and use that. All the new Subaru's do from the factory and they don't leak at the pan gasket.
  18. I actually feel safer on the freeway than side streets. You dont have to stop and coordinate nearly as much. Keep it to 45MPH and I don't even worry much. But I totally understand the hesitation and would only do it with my friend Terry or Jerry DeMoss honestly it has to be a couple people that are very used to each other and how they drive and such. Good luck with getting it home all the same!
  19. I love how that 360 fits in there. The hoist almost takes more room!
  20. Here we tow strap them pretty decent distances. It is very important that the towed vehicle be very similar in weight to what is towing it as that car stops both cars mostly and of course that its brakes work well. Its pretty safe but wear a seatbelt, have both cars insured and do it on as much of an off hour of traffic as possible. Make sure to put a secure hook on each end and red flag the strap. Make sure the car has working lights and a good battery too so others can see you. This suggestion is not authorized by USMB, the club, its founders, etc and we cannot be responsible for what happens.
  21. Hi! Welcome back! Sorry short response I broke my wrist on Friday.
  22. Smallcar.com probably sells a diagram for it.
  23. Is the fuel line that comes out of the fuel filter going to the top connection on the intake manifold?
  24. If it has the older cam pickup design (6 and 7) on the new motor that isnt an issue. If it has EGR you will need both to and even harder is making that system not throw cel's. Youd be better off fixing it with a stock engine even maybe shipping one in from CCR or a JDM supplier.
  25. Its gotta be a takeout engine. I am surprised that you cant get the marks to line up though as there shouldn't be any difference. If the heads look like normal ej22 type casting style and the cam gears look the same I dont see how it wouldn't line up. Its a good engine its just a little lower HP.
