2.2 motor swap won't start?!
Is the fuel line that comes out of the fuel filter going to the top connection on the intake manifold?

1998 Legacy Outback engine swap.
If it has the older cam pickup design (6 and 7) on the new motor that isnt an issue. If it has EGR you will need both to and even harder is making that system not throw cel's. Youd be better off fixing it with a stock engine even maybe shipping one in from CCR or a JDM supplier.

car @ work 1991 leg with ej20?
ShawnW replied to torxxx's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts gotta be a takeout engine. I am surprised that you cant get the marks to line up though as there shouldn't be any difference. If the heads look like normal ej22 type casting style and the cam gears look the same I dont see how it wouldn't line up. Its a good engine its just a little lower HP.

brat rear seat laws
Depends on whether or not you like people puking in the back of your brat. Im pretty sure they are grandfathered in as long as they left the factory with them in. Whether or not you get hassled by local police is another matter.

What is a 1984 Turbo Traction Wagon Worth?
Sadly I parted that car out. It made 2 other 84 Turbos run right again and I got the 4spd d/r conversion out of it for my turbo brat. That car went thru at least 5 different USMB members and many friends trying to figure it out but never could. I assure you and any others that tinkered on it that it was electrical but nothing on the engine itself including its wiring was the problem as the motor went complete into another car and ran perfectly. It wasnt the ECM or MAF either as 5 different ones didnt fix that either. I have a feeling a wire was pinched or not completely touching inside a connector intermittantly. When it did run it sure ran sweet. Id agree though, pure evil. Never seen a machine fool so many. That being said...if it isnt in perfect mechanical condition I wouldnt put a very high value on it. These were the first attempt at EFI, Turbo, MPFI, knock sensor, and coupled to a bad 3AT these cars are about as unreliable as it gets in an 80's Subaru. When owned by a proper 84 Turbo nerd they are sweet but they take a lot of time and patience. Theres about 10 feet of high pressure fuel line that needs to be replaced on any of these cars at this point because most are rotting away from age. I barely made it from Cali to Denver in one because of this and still have line to replace. The lines on the injectors themselves are a real PITA. Good luck and like most said above its worth what somebody is willing to pay.

10/09/2009 SCCA National Rallycross Championship--FOUNTAIN, Colorado
Im thinking of setting up a campout to cater to this event. If you are planning on making a trek out to Colorado for the race please reply. This should be a great time of year to be in Colorado for weather and is an excellent area of the country to visit. Fountain is slightly south of Colorado Springs if you aren't familiar with the location.

Front receiver hitch on '96 Legacy wagon?
ShawnW replied to SubiPilot's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere was a service bulletin for the SVX where the technician was asked to cut the bottom of the towhook off with a rotary cutter to prevent it but I never heard of any other Subaru being affected.

Help Please, I'm a newbie here and....
Are you sure the driveshaft or cv axle didnt just break? Black crud could indicate axle grease.

86 hatchback fwd into a 4wd
Driveshaft, clutch cable, flywheel and clutch kit, custom crossmember or the one holy grail one that I heard about maybe an xt6 FT4 or something like that would work, then a driveshaft, shifter setup, interior trim pieces, rear end parts like trailing arms and such, brake pieces and backing plates to make the axles go thru them, rear axles....the holes are apparently there though so it won't be impossible to drill out the rear end to hang the trailing arms and such. Its easier with a 4 spd dual range at least that was meant for the chassis.

Im personally more enticed to come out to somewhere new than somewhere I have been before even as cool as Thurston CO was. The fairgrounds venues really work nicely for having a vendor area, paved show and shine area and possible food vendor kitchen and such too. A big thank you to those that go out looking for a spot to have the show at and help the organizers.

84 gl project
Youll get away with it until you get in an accident...even if its someone elses fault. Youre also screwed if somebody steals the car. It will be very hard to explain why or how somebody stole a car with mismatched plates and other info.

my sickness has worsened, or, a new acquisition
That one has a different wheel on the Right rear corner than the Right front. The one at WCSS belongs to RichieRich and is a premium condition one at that. Im not sure his was a black out one but I think it was awesome all the same. The ones with the "black out package" are an 84 model year only and tend to have a premium package with these special options: Front and rear bumpers are black Front and rear window moldings are black Drip rail moldings in black Shoulder line moldings in black Body door ding guards are black Door handles---u guessed it are BLACK Trim around the taillight assy's black fuel filler lid black 6 speaker radio with electronic tuning...these cars typically had 4 speakers, 2 in the dash like all the other ea81's and then two in the rear window decklid. On this special model they added 2 more to the doors. They carpet kit for this car is also thicker. Only 3 colors of paint exterior were made of this package they were black, dark grey metallic and silver metallic. All of the interiors were grey interior with the "Moquette seats", door panels, sunvisors, headliner. The rear seat has an extra special armrest in the center that folds down. Most of these also had a luggage rack on the black that was blacked out too. Enjoy that car its my opinion that you grabbed one that is worth restoring or at least parting out and putting all the interior goodies into another one. Ill buy the lower door panels and the speakers and speaker brackets from the doors if you end up parting it out.

Coolant disappearing?
ShawnW replied to goatman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts got a temp light. Its blue when its cold to remind you not to flog it and red when its too hot. I believe the car will also throw a CEL and shut the cruise off when the engine temp goes out of a certain range but I haven't had time to verify this yet in the manuals. The Cruise shut off is actually a godsend as that is very noticeable when you are driving down the road and the car kicks it off. Likely a defective radiator cap. Lots of these are bad as the manufacturer of the caps put a crappy spring in some of them. Make an appointment and take it to the dealer. They can put a cooling system pressure tester on the cap and the engine to verify this. 90 percent of people don't look at the gauges anyway.

ATF For '06 Forester
ShawnW replied to The Dude's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXReally isn't that terrible price wise. You are buying a genuine Subaru product for an expensive AWD electronic trans at a price similar to Synthetic motor oil. Properly maintained, your car calls for a 4 quart drain and fill every 30K miles and its only 40 bucks. And yes it requires that fluid and its because of the clutches and a couple of special solenoids and parts in the valve body that require it.

Factory service manual info and other question.
ShawnW replied to hebrewhammer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe torque specs are exactly the same for the 2.2 and 1.8. No re-torque is necessary on either engine.

laptop
ShawnW replied to mike97's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBy the time you get it working your time and parts investment would probably be better spent on an inexpensive OBDII reader and then you can pull codes in any 95-2006/7 give or take a year Subaru for friends and such. Charge $5 a pull for friends and it will probably pay for itself.

Got rid of my Pickup.... ...replaced with a 4Runner
I came really close to buying one of those a year ago and kindof wish I had. It had a little rust in it and I wanted a super clean one like yours. Have fun with it and keep a few of the wheels on the ground at least.

Subaru RX
Honestly some common sense is in order with the trans but I think if you don't flog it with the diff locked or in 1st gear I think you will be ok for at least a full EJ20 swap. Thats what I would put in...an ej20 from an early wrx.

2009 Forester - anyone in possesion?
ShawnW replied to P K's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhy duck at the thought of the FJ? That car has as much of a cult following as the Subaru does and I think it looks terrific! If you do buy one and want to add accessories let me know I have put just about all of them on now. Most are rather easy to put in. The foglights are incredibly easy! Best value has to be the base 5 speed and then add what you want to make it yours. Ipod kit is pretty easy too just time consuming the first time.
