  1. There's less room on the EA81 for bigger tires. Pretty sure Arch is basing this off the fact he has an EA81 with a 4" lift and toyota rims with less backspacing than most pug rims. An AA lift + AA rims would be 1" less lift and about 2" more backspacing; just no room for 235/75R15 tires in there.
  2. another custom paint job by austin looks good man; can't wait to see it in person again.
  3. Good old junkyard fun I showed up about 15 till 11AM and the parking lot was PACKED. At about 10 till 11AM I saw Kurt and his wife roll up in his sweet Brat. We decided to park in a more open lot adjacent to the junkyard parking lot. We chatted about how cool his Brat was and how rust free it is! That's big news in MN; let me tell ya The Brat took off to a gas station near by. Shortly after they left Archemitis and his brother drove up in the brown beast. About 10 minutes later the Brat came back and it was an official Subaru meet; Lifted wagon (BYB Lift), lifted hatch (Straight Custom 4" lift), and a lifted Brat (FHI stock lift!). Austin was no where to be found yet. We waited a while longer then decided to hit the yard. Walking the whole foreign section we found some EJs and a few EAs. No EA81s to be found. All the EAs were lame ATs and 2WD; the only 4WD had been pillaged of the tranny and front drive train with the engine laying in the isle! We suspected Humble Nuto As we were leaving to see where Austin was we bumped into him and Freddie. We talked a bit then wanderd over to the Impreza we found. Really didnt have any parts usable for Austin. There was antoher EJ near it we first glanced at and thought it was a Legacy sedan. Austin's keen eye noticed right away it was another Impreza! He grabbed the hood for that and we were done in the yard. After that it was just some more chatting in the parking lot. Arch had other enguagements to full fill and took off. We did have 4 lifted Subarus all there however; which was great. Kurt and his wife took off home. Austin, his girlfriend, and myself went back to my place. Swapped his hoods and he was off to finish his paint job. Kurt snapped some pics; maybe he'll post them. Wish we had got a shot of all 4 lifted rear ends; maybe next time! Hopefully Austin finished his paint job and has some pics of that to share also.
  4. BYB kit has shorter blocks at the tranny x-member than at the engine x-member. Seemed to go together fine. Then you don't have to make / extend shifter linkages.
  5. Take the belt off the water pump and spin it by hand. See if it turns freely or binds up. Pull on the pulley twoard the radiator and see if there is much play on the shaft.
  6. That evening my wife will be out at a scrap book mania party till like 10pm. Kids will be at grandparents. More than welcome to pull in your Imp into my garage and we can work on it. I have a compressor already setup. Bring whatever tools you want.
  7. I've had good luck with junkyard axles. NOt sure if you have that avaiable to you in your area. Is there some way you could get your hands on salvaged parts? They are typically cheaper than even remans.
  8. How about some rims with 3" or 2" backspacing. That would be custom.
  9. If you don't show up in the lifted hatch I'll just leave
  10. It will hold up fine. Be sure you don't let some moron pull you out though. Some people like to latch on and yank you out at wide open throttle with out taking up the slack. Even then I doubt it would rip off but it would certainly tweak and twist the unibody and/or bumper.
  11. It could but it won't under the stress you're going to be putting it through for ice racing. Hopefully you'll place before it looses too many gears
  12. My last pump on my EA82 spat out bearings and siezed. Weep hole never leaked a drop. I'd rather the weep hole let me know it's about to blow!
  13. Yeah; everyone I wheel with that has front/rear lockers only enguages the front one when they absolutly need it. Otherwise its more trouble than it's worth. It's there for good reasons but those good reasons aren't always there!
  14. 235/75 R15 calculates out to 9.3 section width. Guess that's why the swampers don't rub and the 235's do on the AA rims. Backspacing the culprit; need less of it. I have 15" steel pugs and mine don't rub on anything in the rear. Only spot my tires rub are up front on the unibody where my feet go.
  15. Ask in the Marketplace for one. Or if you gots the ching you could have a custom setup done. I'm think'n new flanges, 90 degree headers, pipes to a 2in1out cat, tuck it all up tight to the unibody. Won't be cheap though
  16. Truth. Height isn't as much an issue as width.
  17. Ask on the BYB forums and ye shall recieve great knowledge you seek.
  18. The Oxygen Sensor tells the Computer how much Oxygen is coming out of your combustion chambers. It tells the computer if there is too much Oxygen (lean) or too little (too much fuel, rich). The computer can then fine tune the amount of fuel coming to the amount of air coming in; in it's attempt to create a stechiometric (spelling?) ratio for optimal combustion. For gasoline this is 14.7:1 air:fuel ratio; too much fuel (rich) and you create pollutants. Too little fuel (lean) and you create pollutants and risk damange to the engine. So it serves two purposes really. Helps optimize air:fuel ratio for proper combustion and is part of the emissions control system by cutting pollutants.
  19. Just do it for a day and see if it overheats still. This isnt a permanent solution; just a way to see if the heater core is the culprit.
  20. Yep, mud sucks! Least you were at Gilbert last weekend having fun!
  21. They better not be lepord print.... :-p
  22. Confirmed attendees: Austin Kurt Morgan Archemitis More are welcome! We'll be there between 11 and noon I guess. If you get there later just look for us in the Foriegn section! Don't forget $2 cash to get in, no kids under 16 or dogs allowed. ================ Google map location: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=2875+...,0.060176&hl=en Take I 35 to Exit 86 ( CO RD 46 ) and go West. That road just turns into 160th. After you cross HWY 3 you are almost there. It's on your left hand side. Can't miss it really; follow the signs to the parking lot. If you click the Google link and just scroll to the left (east) you'll see where I 35 hits that main road. Really easy to get to; just stay on that road till you are there.
  23. I'll give you a call SAT morning. We still shotting for 11 AM at the junkyard right? Directions: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=346534#post346534
