  1. Wish I could be there for the install. I'm at Ft. McCoy for two weeks doing a network security course. (ssshh... I'm actually in class right now =P ) I'll be coming back this weekend to visit my family. Hopefully some time over the weekend I could come check out the AA lifted wagon!. May the force be with you (youll need it for a 4WD conversion AND lift kit install! been there, done that! LOL)
  2. For just a quick easy cleaning I prefer a rag and some gear oil. Cleans okay, leaves a nice shine, moisterizes rubber hoses and stays shinney for over a week. If I'm cleaning up after a mud run wel... gotta get seriouse. I have little problem sticking a pressure washer at a self serve car wash. I do NOT pull the trigger to go full pressure. I do NOT hose down the battery/fuse box/coil/dizzy area very much. I've had good luck doing this (read: never had it not start) might run like crap for a few miles but it dries out and drives on. Just my 2 cents.
  3. XT6's are awsome. Those engines really move Subarus; especially gutted hatchbacks
  4. Water pump does have a wheep hole. There is also just a press fit O ring for the inlet tube at the water pump. Hoses are the weakest link; uppper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, in and out heater hoses, small elbow hose on top of water pump, small elbow hose from block to bottom of intake manifold front and center behind the power steering pump, one on the back of the throttle body, and one more from the intake manifold to the back of the throttle body (I think thats all of them =P). Radiators can crack. Find out where its leaking and fix it before you over heat it and ruin that engine.
  5. Grab an end and pull... I took all that junk off when I went to paint it. Didnt ruin anything but the trim itself. The plastic clips are weaker than the sheet metal Just take it easy and dont pull super hard or anything. Just pop them out one at a time as you peel it up off the unibody. Least that's what I did.
  6. I delt with it by throwing 90% of the system in the trash can
  7. Drive safe Austin. Don't be supprised if it snows on you Every FRI and SAT night there is a Subaru Meet and Greet up on University Ave. near "Porkies" drive through dinner. Its where all the hot rods go on FRI and SAT evenings. A business owner is nice enough to let the MN Subaru club use a parking lot those nights. PM me if you are interested in going one night and I'll get you directions.
  8. Cut off each end. Weld on a new larger diameter, properly lengthend, bar.
  9. EA82 GL wagon Powersteering removed Lines were not caped off at the rack. No idea if it has any fluid left in it or not. I'd imagine there's some in it. Has not failed yet in about 4 years of use and abuse now. I have tooth pick arms and I can turn it just fine with 29"x8.5" tires. This is my experience; take it as you will.
  10. OOPS RX got off camber  Can't wait for the full feature.
  11. For figuring out what kind of smoke it is I go by smell before color. Smell like burnt oil? Smell like fuel? Smell like burnt coolant? That will clue you in faster than the color of the smoke. Hope you get it all figured out.
  12. Awsome! Glad it's up and running. Funny how one little ground just ruins the day.
  13. LOL... the Kurt Disclaimer Thank you for clearing this up!
  14. But said mounts are all rubber mounts. Given how old most are on these old goats the mounts are usually good and broke-in if not worn out. I drove around with out my pitch bar for a week before I got it properly lengthend. Lots of real bad vibrations when trying to take off from a stop. Also lots of slop that mudrat has described. I'm all about thining out the engine bay of unecessary crap. However I keep the pitch bar If they get bent as described above; that tells me they are a part of structural integrity.
  15. make sure coil is hooked up properly:
  16. Coil hooked up properly? Easy to swap those wires. Ignitor assembly bracket properly grounded? That will cause a no-go right there. Check all grounds
  17. Glad to help Had mine swaped at one point also. After I was redoing some intake manifold gaskets.
  18. Wheel hop is evil >:| That's rough if you bent the pitch bar. Now that it's been bent and hammerd back I'd say it's not as strong as before. Honestly I'd cut the bar off the two ends and weld in a new one. Something thicker this time When I had to lengthend mine after installing the lift kit. I had a thicker bar welded in at the proper length. Havent bent it yet.
  19. Thanks for the details. Sounds like you have been working hard on it! With those 3" blocks at the tranny is it really that much of an angle on the drive train? U-joint blowing angles? I stopped bothering with the carpet. Once I started getting into stuff depper than my floor boards on a regular basis it just got nasty. Removed all seats, ripped out all carpeting, and just put front seats back in. I'd still have rear seats if the seat belts didnt rust out back there Can't wait to see it offroad!
  20. Line in from pump to bottom of throttle body. Line out from Fuel Pressure Regulator on throttle body to fuel tank.
