  1. Most probably due to abuse eh? GD
  2. That's your fuel filter, and the noise is your fuel pump "cycling" - which it will do if the green test mode connectors are hooked together. Test mode also disables ignition timing advance - leading to higher temps. GD
  3. I hear that. I had an ex with a Lebaron TURBO. Wow that thing was junk! It blew it's third set of HG's (that I know of) and I found her an 86 wagon with 254k on it. As far as I know she's still driving it GD
  4. Well - that's partially correct, but as you pointed out for me, in the real world this particular advantage evaporates. And with modern alloys for the cams, roller rockers, SS valves, and heavy springs it evaporates even more. The BIG (and I'm talking HUGE) win with the OHC design is the ability to run multiple valves inside of odd-shaped cylinder heads. Such as a multi-valve hemispherical or hexahedral head. The other big win is the multiple cam profiles that can be run (think Hondar V-Tech), and 3D cam profiles as used by some of the more exotic Ferrari plants, etc. But - as NONE of these advantages are even remotely exploited by the EA82, it's a loseing situation. The OHC's make the engine wider, heavier, more complex, and less reliable - all for zilch in return benefits. If it had multiple intake valves, and dual intake/exhaust ports with hexahedral chambers.... THEN it would be a huge win. You would be looking at a 200+ HP engine no question. But at the end of the day none of these exist and there's no drive to produce these items when EJ's are so cheap and better designed. Oh yeah - Cometic. HAHAHAHA. Try calling them smart-a$$. 500 units minimum order. Got a spare $20k on ya? GD
  5. They are hard to find - they came on 83 and 84 california feedback carb models, and only on one side. GD
  6. I've had/have some Webered EA's that run nearly that smooth. I'm getting there with my SPFI, but it's real finicky about small crankcase vac leaks - such as the o-ring around the oil dipstick tube GD
  7. Ok - I found it. After surfing around on thepartsbin, it's listed as a lower hose for 11/1990 and up Loyale's: Incidentally (and another reason I need a source), this is the same hose you need to hook an EA82 up to an EA81 radiator. SOA part number: 45162GA020 http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/quote.jsp?make=SU&year=1990&product=G2000-31415&application=000236543&part=Radiator%20Hose&category=All&dp=true GD
  8. No - it's got to be a full "S" shape like this: __ |__ __| Hope that de-cofuseicates the shape a bit GD
  9. No - the EA81 hose rotates 90 degress, and is shorter. GD
  10. hhhhmmm - I've looked at them, but the upper doesn't have enough "S" to it - this thing needs to almost double back on itself. It's weird. Maybe this is like an XT hose or something? I'm confused. I ended up with this radiator from a parts car..... GD
  11. Doesn't really matter since he's using an EA82 XT tranny. Probably the same though, yeah. I've heard the EJ starters are the same as well, but haven't bothered to confirm that one. GD
  12. Ok - I've got this weird radiator in my sedan - instead of the lower hose tube comming off the radiator at an upwards angle this one comes straight off. It's got a hose now that I want to replace, and I need a part number for something that will work. I've never seen one like this - it's probably an aftermarket radiator, but there's the hose - and it works just peachy, but without a part number for a hose like this I'm stuck if I blow it. And this one is old: GD
  13. Yep - that's what they quoted me when I called. And even if that wasn't the case, the other link I gave will rebuild any lifter for like $5 each. GD
  14. Ian (Bugaru) did it about a year ago to his EA81 hatch (among other things). It's really simple for a carb - they make a LPG "carb" that mounts with the same flange as the Weber. He went with a 30 gallon tank, and said he expects about a 500 mile range with it. His hatch is a beast: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57399&highlight=unhatched GD
  15. The airation can come from either the pump micky-mouse gasket, from worn or dirty lifters (fairly uncommon), or from the cam case seals. Especially if they are the older cam o-rings without the metal reinforcing. This one is from my 86 sedan: GD
  16. Huh? Explain yourself. I've used EA81 flywheels on EA82's without issue, and the other way around as well. Harmonic blancers are rubber mounted crank pulley things.... flyhweels are cast iron.... EA82 Turbo's have harmonic balanced pulley's, but the EA82 NA does not. GD
  17. No. Your mechanic is an idiot. The boxer engine doesn't need one as it's already balanced. Besides that, they were never equipped on EA81's in any form so it would have to be custom made. Non-turbo EA82's didn't have them either. The turbo's had one (or something very similar) but I can't recall at the moment exactly why. GD
  18. The only difference in EA series starters is auto vs. manual - the auto spins faster as it doesn't have as much of a gear reduction. Other than that all the EA starters are functionally identical and will all interchange with no problems. I like to use the automatic starters on my manual cars because I like the faster spin. GD
  19. Probably the outer bearing has been contaminated by water/dirt. That's the usual problem. Replace both bearings and seals on that side - Autozone sells the Timken bearings for about $11 each, and with seals it's about $27 per wheel plus grease to redo them up right. It's a bit easier if you drive the bearings out with the knuckle off the car, but not entirely neccesary if you are in a hurry. GD
  20. Well - there's Delta cam in Tacoma that sells new lifters for $7 each, and then there's also these guys that will rebuild your cores for less than $5 each: http://www.mizpahprecision.com/pricing.htm GD
  21. As an aside, they can be made to look 100% stock. You can't tell my Brat has a 5 speed at all. The biggest reason they didn't get them has to do with the need to redesign the floor pan sheel metal and the transmission tunnel to accept the two-peice driveline. And I think it may need a slight change in the exhaust as well. GD
  22. Never - 5 speed 2WD, sure. The EA81 was never equipped with the 5 speed D/R unless someone had it done. I suppose subaru tech's and stuff may have done that sort of thing back when they were new on a limited basis, but they never *came* that way from the boat. GD
  23. Markers look to still be there - mounted outboard of the headlights.... but I've never been stopped for having bad markers or bulbs anyway. In fact on my lifted wagon I put orange bulbs in the marker lens and use them as my turn signals cause I don't have em in my bumper/guard anymore. Seriously tho - the Medford police must be blind. Adam was always rolling around in his t-case purple brat with the ER27 looking like it was about to fall out the front of the engine bay. I think he has been stopped for the tires sticking out too far, but got only a warning That thing pictured above wouln't make it to the corner market here in Portland. I would have 3 police vehicles surround me and I would probably get strip searched or something. They might tow it if they could figure out how. GD
