Too cool not to share. Amazing how stripped down things can get with a modern engine. http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/mini-tec-awd-mini/full/#2

Blu has cancer
nipper replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI was told it was a sticker last year when Blu had a bmper skin repainted (warrenty work from a deer hit). I will probably go to the same shop again. Someone on another list quoted me 700.00 bucks EEEK! But it has to get done as I want him around for few more years, and thst really the only rust spot on him.

Have you ever seen this break?
An auto turblo?

Have you ever seen this break?
Wow someone has a auto-turbo. Most likley failure mode is a stress crack or a poor shaft casting to begin with. Thats why bridges fail so many many many years after they are built. Write subaru a nasty letter

97 outack ltd wont start/turn over
nipper replied to Digger19's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAltenator. Car is due for one. i got mine from www.1stsubaru.com as it was relativly cheap for a subaru rebuild. I went through three alts from various stores before I got this one. You can jump start the car, or charge the battery and see what the volt output is with everything on and 1800 rpm, or just take my word May be the battery too depending upon its age.

Rack and Pinion Steering bad???
nipper replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUsually if the rack isnt leaking it is fine. There are many other parts that can do what you describe. You should have a shop inspect it, as some of those parts sort of keep the wheels attached to the car. Slightly important. nipper

Subaru is a PREMIUM Car
nipper replied to The Dude's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf your going to tow, wouldnt you want a bigger engine then a 2.5 to have more power in reserve? nipper

Really dumb idea ?
Everythying everyone said is good, my two cents. Check for knotholes. They can be weak spots. Yes engines are relativly light, but Good Ol' Murphy is always around. When in doubt, just brace the Rafter you are going to use. Carpenters glue does wonders for reinforcing rafters if you marry them.. nipper

After-market catalytic converter OK?
nipper replied to Vincenzo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXEastern is crap. period. How many miles are on your car? If the cats truly are bad it may be covered by the meissions warrenty. this is one of those times where it would pay to take it to a dealer. Even if your cats are bad, replacing the O2 sensors wont be wasted money. They may need to be replaced anyway if the car has over 100K on it, as thats about thier design life. They may last much longer, but if your trying to diagnose a problem, its not wasted money. nipper

2000 Outback wagon 183000 miles stall/backfire
nipper replied to kwkslvr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGte a better tech. A sooby dealer can use thier select monitor and see things happening in real time and get a handle on what is going on. A sooby factory scanner can read the sensors in real time, it doesnt matter if the car is in open loop or closed loop. First thing I would look for is the obvious disconnected vac line at the airbox. Next I would suspect the knock sensor. nipper

Gas Mileage Meter for Older Gen Soobies?
What he said. It's amazing how much MPG you cna pick up by retraining your right foot to squeeze the gas pedal instead of just pressing it down. You can recalibrate the way you accelerate and no one would really notice the difference. This is still how basic (in dash) MPG meters work. They just read manifold vac, the higher the needle, the higher the instant MPG is. ALso you can find the cars sweet spot. nipper

Gas Mileage Meter for Older Gen Soobies?
Im a bit confused, this is in the older gen board, but that is for OBDII (at leats they list leagcy settings). Why not use a vacume gauge, as that was the original MPG gauges (and still are). nipper
