  1. Has anyone checked the timing belt? 50lb differnce between sides would tell me that the timing is off a tooth. nipper
  2. I think i will be a gentlemen in this and let you go first . nipper
  3. New PCV valve, then wash the egine undernath the car, then watch for drips. Subarus can be really sneeky about leaking oil. nipper
  4. My favorit subaru of all time nipper
  5. On engine compression you need to do a dry test, followed by a wet test. All the pluygs need to be out and you need a strong battery. A wet test lets you know if your rings are leaking or not.. The numbers matter in two ways, both of wichc are just as impotant, Firs is peak compression, which can be in the 170-190 psi range depending upon engine. The second, which is more improatnat, is the cylinder balance. Engines loose compression sometimes with age, but they should be balanced between cylinders, usually 10%. So a 170 psi compression number can be 170- 153 and be considered healthy. An even 150 really isnt that bad for an older engine. That tells me the valves are ok, and the rings may be a little worn. A wet test would be great. nipper
  6. Bondo glass? It has been 20 years since I touched bondo, is this a new thing, or do you mean bondo/fiberglass?
  7. i may take you up on that offer. I looked slosely at it today, and it looks like the paint not under the sticker has to be touched. Also it is not through Yet. nipper
  8. Even the earliest VW's had 25 hp, so yes if you are going to ever want to do anything over 70, or get there in less then an hour (to 70) you will need bigger. But for even 30/45 it will be ok . nipper
  9. I'm going on the side of nothing to worry about. It was probably totally destroyed and pushed out the valve into the cat. ALso a chance that it was just pushed out the cylinder hole. Never a bad thing to look, but I wouldnt worry too much about it. I have seen destroyed electrodes before with no consequence. nipper
  10. Yes please. It has six pins Thank You. i actually love doing wireing, its the one thing that my bad back doesnt stop me from doing . nipper
  11. there is another part of this equation, what transmission are you using, A troque converter multiplies torque as well as transmits power, while a clutch can always be started in gear. nipper
  12. Yes diesels have the grunt. When doing off road you want as much power available at low RPM as possible. Now if it was a street vehical built for speed, the gas engine would be best. nipper
  13. i did not realize they were mutliple stickers. Thanks. I have not decided if i am going to tackle it or not, as everytime ive done rust repair i have failed at it. But if I have to hurt Blu's paint, then it is going to a shop. nipper
  14. It came with everything, Trust me i have relays to spare. Its the harness where the kit would just plug into a BAJA that I have to make, hence why I need a connector from a fog light switch on a sooby. But I got covers with mine that say BAJA and Subaru heheheh nipper
  15. PS trans X goes in my mental files great to hear that a fix in a can actually works. nipper
  16. Rooster it doesnt add stress to the trnasmission. Thats what thegeras are for, as brakes will fade and fluid will over heat if you push them hard enough and long enough. Its better to downshift and tap the brakes then to ride them or hit them hard. nipper
  17. It's safe to post here as he doesnt read the boards I got this from the UPS man today (we love brown trucks) http://www.yellowandbluelighting.com/YBCart/ItemNF/tabid/86/CategoryID/21/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/776/Default.aspx I got it off ebay, as it was advertised here at first. God i love buying subaru parts. i did not know they were Hella's 500's. AND BONUS The switch for the baha fits in the extra blank that Blu has for a switch (1997) keeping up that fine tradition of subarus being giant leggos. Just when i thought Blu couldnt get any prettier, i got these bad boys Now it also came with a replacment pocket, so anyone who wants a pocket that can fit a factory second gen sooby switch chime in. nipper Sheesh he is going to get spoiled, first this, then next a little plastic surgery nipper PS - Can someone snag the wiring harness of the back of a fog light switch for me?
  18. Torque gets you moving, HP keeps you moving, so you want torque nipper
  19. This usually happens when the sparkplugs are installed too loose or they have been over torqued. http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive/how_to/4212608.html
  20. *hangs head in shame* So my passing taht little imp that was plodding along at 20mph was a bad thing?
  21. Since people seem to think this is some mystical number picked out of hat to make our evil lords happy (pick your overlord), there actually is a SAE standard for tow ratings. up to 2009 its been a soft number, but SAE just updtaes the standards this year to "even the playing field" between mfgs. The scary (but not surprising thing) is that they may have been overly generous in the past to begin with. So don't go blaming subaru. http://www.reuters.com/article/pres...009+PRN20090408 http://trailer-bodybuilders.com/tra...standards_0509/ http://www.airforums.com/forums/f46...lies-31559.html http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/st...wing/page1.html The last one talks how it applys to pickups, but it applies to ALL motor vehicles.
  22. Front one needs to be OE, rear can be from anyone. nipper
