  1. And sometimes cam timing jumps in shipping. Its rare for it to happen on a crate engine, but it does happen. nipper
  2. Blu's engine is a Subaru hybrid block. It used the short block from subaru (which is rebuilt by Cummins Diesel) and it ran and still runs fine. A subaru dealer rebuilt it for me out in CA when Blu threw a rod. Thise numbers are low period. THey should be in the 180-190 area. i cant diagnose it from here, but i dont know wtf is going on. A wet test shold have been performed also to see how the rings are. I have seen failed rebuilds, but not out of the box. Out of the box (or just assembled) I have seen cam timing off, improper HG installation, bad valves (which i will rule out here). Now something that can occure, which i have never seen from my friends or me (especially since i am paranoid about start up) is the failure to prime the lubricating system or to be generous with the lube on assembly. One other thing, which is a huge rooky mistake is a failure to offset the piston ring gaps. If those are all lined up, it can cause poor compression. The odds of that happening accidently is astronomical, the odds of i t happening on one cylinder are slim. I still wonder about cam timing, as those numbers are just too "neat" to be anything else. nipper
  3. One of those carbon based errors. Sorry apple is just as screwey as MS. There is nothing perfect in the world, and thats what keeps us interested
  4. You are NOT supposed to have these kind of problems. :-\ i am not home otherwise i would look it up on FSM (didnt i send you one of those?) First thing to be suspect of is the connector itself. Sometimes an ECU goes bad and wont communicate, thats why there are used ones nipper
  5. What dealer is this, as it sounds like it is not a subaru dealer. They may need a better code reader. The cheaper ones may not have the subaru communications dohicky profile. Another possabililty is as simple as a poor connection at the obdII port. Take the car to a Autozone and let them read the codes for free. If they still cant read codes we will look into it deeper. Also check all the fuses, under the hood and under the dash to make sure they all work. nipper
  6. I dont understand what you mean by this. What were the numbers of the test, both wet and dry. A pressure test of the cooling system would be helpful, but my gut says its a bad HG. nipper
  7. Subaru HG's can be sneaky. If you leave the cap off, allow the car to get hot for the T-stat to open up, you may see bubbles. If you do its a HG. Another test is a compression test. nipper
  8. I do beleive that is a Toyota Passo/Daihatsu Boon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Passo nipper
  9. yup. Everyone is entitled to make a mistake, it is what they do next that determins how good they are. nipper
  10. Give us the details of the car and we can walk you through it. Almost everything that goes wrong with a sooby you can see on a personal inspection along with a test drive. nipper
  11. Sounds like it is off a tooth, even the experts do this on occasion. nipper
  12. Try a new cap also. Are ther bubbles in the coolant? nipper
  13. you left out shape of the piston, piston cooling, shape of the cylinder head chamber, atomization of fuel (well that can be covered under porting), wether the moon is aligned with mars... nipper
  14. I'm striking out here, as Jamie said stripes no longer exist. HELP i may have to take Blu to a body shop %@#%@%^#$$^%***&%%$%$#!!!!!!
  15. Grr online sites are being difficult and 1st subaru doesnt show it as available.
  16. Ok i am ready to buy the stripes, can anyone save me some work and suggest to me where I can get them from? nipper
  17. Sigh, oh ok i will order the stickers this week and start the process. i don't owna heatgun so i will have to figure something out about that, as i dont own a hair drier either. nipper
  18. quadroople check. There is hardly a mechanic on the face of the planet that has not gotten the timing marks wrong at leats once. These hallowed halls are full of psosts of people who sewar that they checked it 5 times, just to find out they used the wrong marks, or it had shifted. If this was a bad rebuild i would expect all or 1 cylinder to be low. ALso conclusive proof would be removing the timing belt to have all the valves closed and tthen do a leakdown test. nipper
  19. Has anyone checked the timing belt? 50lb differnce between sides would tell me that the timing is off a tooth. nipper
  20. I think i will be a gentlemen in this and let you go first . nipper
  21. New PCV valve, then wash the egine undernath the car, then watch for drips. Subarus can be really sneeky about leaking oil. nipper
