  1. All those repairs are normal wear and tear for a 1991, no reason to condem it. To me condemnation is rust, then its a no brainer. nipper
  2. OBDII has nothing at all to do with the transmission codes. nada zip zilch zero There si another method for getting those codes, involving a chicken, a alter, pointing to indiana, and chanting several times. That and grounding out a pin in the harness. If you dont have a tranny light flashing at startup, then your solenoid is fine. nipper
  3. because there is a hell of a lot more power there. This extra boost gets past the resistance in ther worn contacts. Eventually It wont crank anymore at all. nipper
  4. Any name brand on sale. My tranny is at 250000 miles, but at 180 the AWD unit was rebuilt. nipper
  5. TskTskTsk do all 4. I got a year out of my clutch pack by doing that, so i recomend it. nipper
  6. I got 19-31 in my 98 legacy with an auto, 19 in winter or heavy ac use in traffic, 32 when everything was right in the world. TB can take away mpg. Last tuneup and timing belt was wheen? nipper
  7. So this is a drive by wire? Is it possible to get the gas pedal assembly? Usually the transducer for "accellerator" is on the pedal assembly. Sorry i'm a bit foggy right now, but it may just be easier to do that then everything else you wish to do. nipper
  8. When I did Blu I got a case of transmission fluid. I also had a smart system. Drain the tranny fluid into a plastic drain thingy. They actually have measured marks on the side of them so you know how much came out. Put back in the 3-4 qts ish, and put the old fluid back into those empty 3 qts. Start the car and go around the block, or put the car through all the gears and count to 5, then move onto the next gear. Do this through P-R-N-D-3-2-1-2-3-D-N-R-P. Drain and replace fluid, then repeat. I dont even know what I used to tell you the truth. Its the same thing Ive been using for ages, in the same mom and pop store. I just grab the case, pay for it and go nipper PS my biggest fight was getting the dipstick out.
  9. Replace the ignition wires. You have the classic symptons of silicon insulation that has failed in the wires. This failure occures either up top or down in the spark plug buckets. Have you tired spraying the coil and wires with water in the early evening and looking for sparks? nipper
  10. Replace the starter contacts. I am assuimng you mean the car doesnt crank as opposed to cranking and not starting. This is why i am against rebuilt starters from anyone but subaru. The starters rarely fail, but the electrical contacts do get tired. nipper
  11. Get one from OE. It could hurt your cat, it could foul your plugs, it could cause your mpg to suffer, and it could make the planet a littly more browner. But what it does is cause the CEL to be on, so you will fail an inspection, and it can hide a CEL for a more important failure. nipper
  12. Well those canadians are a nutty bunch.
  13. http://www.subiesport.com/site/2009/07/2010-legacy-cvt-36r-gt/ nipper
  14. LOL what no cars with a periscope? this thread just gave me a giggle. Got to love a camo ferrari. nipper
  15. Topping off? Check your charcoal canister under the hood. I bet it is flooded with fuel. nipper
  16. I've driven earlier CVT's. Since the engine wasnt well isolated from the car, the drone of the engine would drive you batty. Since thne, its been relaized that the engine has to be really isolated fomr the car to keep the driver from going nuts. Thats why subaru has a new engine subframe. nipper
  17. I've heard nightmares about CA emission inspection. To be that pickey is just insane, stupid, and a few other choice words. nipper
