Subaru is selling everything it makes, so they are not cutting off thier noses in spite of thier faces to make a sale. However an entirely new OB si coming out in 2010, so you may be able to get a deal on a 2009, but i am not sure. Well there are many hybrid cam drive engines out there. Some use belts to drive a cam, then the cams will be synched to each other with a small chain. This does make them freewheeling, but they are still basically interference. It is splitting hairs, but something you need to be aware of you ever rebuild one of these heads. I dont know if the toyota did this. I have heard "freewheeling" applied to these engines. nipper

Yes cam sprockets. Outbacks are made in the US, Foresters in Japan. Same with the engines. As bad as this sounds it should be a simple fix to change the sprockets. nipper

This is factory, and it isnt as much a cooler as a tempp stabalizer. It also helps the oil warm up in winter, as the water heats up faster then the oil does. Damaged water pump?

My guess would be the main or oil pump seal went and it was all down hill from there. How much oil is in the crankase? When was the last time the seals were replaced. I think you are quite boned.

Exactly. Fluid is cheap compared to the unit itself. There are many reasons why a MFG tries to extend the service interval, some good, some bad. I dont know the logic behind this move, but longer fluid change intervals usually shorten the life of whatever it is protecting. nipper

the fuel is under static pressure. As soon as a drop or two of fuel escapes the pressure drops dramtically. I have yet to ever have an issue except for a stubborn line. nipper

hrmm. Does the vibration change with vehical speed or engine RPM. Personally I would have looked at rotors, wheels (rotate them and see if it moves), CV joints, wheel bearing. Car seems awfully young for bad mounts. Have you taken the mnechanic for a ride to show him? nipper

Yup. The newer electronic flashers use the bulb resistance as part of the timing circuit. nipper
