  1. And a report has been made to the Sargent Of Arms about this "reading" and "learning" thing. It shall be investigated if this constitutes a violation of the Bylaws concerning "instructions and use there of"
  2. Its a common thing with disc brakes and ceramic or metalic pads. nipper
  3. Why cant a 60 year old man run as fast as a 20 year old. Wear and tear. There are many moving parts the rub eachother and wear over time. If the car is not properly maintained (frequent oil changes) those parts can wear faster. The parts here are valves and more importatntly piston rings. they are required to make compression to make the car go (suck squish boom). The next one which you cna do something about is a tuneup. Then there is other things like performance tires, dragging brakes. nipper
  4. They are a godsend when crossing bridges in NYC or anytime your in bumper to bumper traffic. nipper
  5. The only time it didnt work for me i had to do it twice . No need to point the car uphill. nipper
  6. Most modern engines use reverse flow now, out the bottom of the engine and back in through the top. nipper
  7. never fill any car engine with the car not running. Thats basically been the rule since there have been water pumps, but no one follows it. People are jusat used to have very forgiving cooling system designs for the most part. I have used this as long as I've worked on cars and only once did i have a problem. With an empty radtiator make sure the bleed screw is oopen (if so equiped). Start the car. SLOWLY fill the radiator with coolant (premix just makes life easier). Once the radiator is filled wait for the thermostat to open. There will be a surge of fluid out the radiator. Top off the radiator. Fill the overflow tank to the hot line. Put cap on the Radiator, close the bleed valve and drive around the block, watch the temp gauge. Park the car and allow it to cool off. Check coolant levle, top off as needed and repeat. Do this on level ground or car pointing uphill, never downhill. nipper
  8. Have you properly burped the cooling system? Have you replaced the cap and the T-stat?
  9. will just blow cold air. Why not just bypass it. And you know.... we DO so love a good story
  10. Power steering uses the same fluid as ATF for most cars. Cars with electrical PS pumps use a special fluid. nipper
  11. Check the fluid level, add a conditioner, and cross your fingers. If that doesnt help, it wont get better on its own. It may not get worse, but pushing a car backwards gets tired really fast. nipper
  12. for a job that takes less then 5 minutes its a waste of money. nipper
  13. replace the check valve. It is cheap enough. nipper
  14. Well you can just do a drain and fill of the tranny at every other oil change. On an engine with this high mileage I would cut back from the 7500 mile change to 5000 miles. Change the PCV valve. nipper
  15. #1 item NEVER drive on a flat and always make sure the tires match. Check your tire pressure regularly. Always do regular fluid flushes and changes.
  16. Booster test pump brakes ten times with car off. press brake pedal with car off start car while holding brake pedal down If the brake pedal does not move towards floor the booster is bad. Also check the brake booster check valve at the intake manifold. Since they are downhill from the booster, they tend to collcet moisture, but i think your booster is bad. nipper
  17. You are living on seriously borrowed time on that timing belt. I bet its a tensioner/idler going bad. A flexplate is a rythmic clicking that amy be temp related, but will get worse over time. It will match the engine RPM. Oil pump isnt really a problem on these cars. nipper
  18. HOw many miles are on the car? Normally i would say wait till the noise gets worse, but since it is a grinding noise that comes and goes: When was the last time the timing belt was changed? What was replaced along with the timing belt? Is it more of a rattle (Heat shields)? Next time you hear it, spray water (water bottle) on the accessory drive belt tension pulley and see if it goes away. nipper
  19. Thanks Bucky. Blu needs a new rear bumper skin now . Thats the last time i go through one of those deep pits. i actually enjoy climbing and wandering more then splashing in the mud puddles. He is too important to me not to keep him in good shape. Funny the biggest thing i dread after these trips is not cleaning the car, but cleaning my boots nipper
  20. Start with the cheap things first. A New PCV (ever replaced it) and clean the IAC valve. May also be a vacume leak. nipper
  21. I'm confused. The transmission doesnt idle, the engine does. When was the last time this car had a tune-up and the IAC valve cleaned? nipper
  22. nipper replied to SoobieDoo's topic in Shop Talk
and dont ever forget that full tank of gas One can never underestimate the obvious. nipper
