  1. Generally on state park land you have to have registered and insured. nipper
  2. That sensor causes the notorius "why doesnt my car die then run for weeks then die again" problem. This sounds more like you have a vac leak or a carb issue. Make sure the vac advance works on the disty. nipper
  3. They are total junk. Mine went out at 220,000 miles. I tell ya they dont make them like they used to, those damn original parts. And you kids get off my lawn! hehehehehehe (just had to do it)
  4. I dont see this being a tree hugger issue as opposed to people trespassing and doing damage on private property. Your beef should be with those who broke the law.
  5. But you see the air intake is just as responsible for the noise as the exhaust is. Especially at WOT. But do what you wish, its your money. nipper
  6. EGR valve is not electronic (there still are mechanical valves). You should be able to see it operate just by reving the engine. It is operated with a vacume diaphram. Dont use drygas, use Techron. If the CEL doesnt come back on again, just leave it be, the code will or already has cleared itself. nipper
  7. Its not a horrible idea, but if you are using fuel with ethanol it is already in there. It is also possible that the additive may help dry out the carbon around the EGR valve seat. It can be that the EGR valve is sticking or failing. I would test it for function (rev the engine and watch the valve move). Check the vacume line. It may have been a one time thing where moisture caused the valve to stick. if it happens again clean or replace the EGR valve. Dump a can of Techron in the car twice a year. that may help. nipper
  8. Hrmmmm You may need to clean the engine, radiator and frame, then put a dye that responds to balck light in the cooling system. Its possible you have a hairline crack in the radiator that only opens up when hot. nipper
  9. Throw out bearing went bad? Lost one of the spings in the clutch disc? How many miles on this clutch? nipper
  10. I just bought a Mobil One filter, and it was tiny too. The auto engineer in me knows size isnt everything, but the gear head in me thinks that larger filter means more oil cooling, flow, can cooling. I trust Mobil One filters so I went with it. nipper
  11. Take the money they are going to charge you and put it in an interest bearing bank account (ING for instance) or some internet bank. This way if you ever need it it is avaialble, and if you don't its all yours. Soobys just run and run and last far longer then what any extented extra cost warrenty would cover. nipper
  12. Subarus are fairly free breathing beasts to being with, as is most modern cars. The goal with OBDII has been to get as much performance as possible from a given engine and meet the required standards. About the only thing that you can do is a free flow catalytic converter. You can also modify your snorkus (Air intake ssytem). Subarus already have a Cold Air Induction system, but the plumbing can be cleaned up a bit. If you ever plan to have true fun with your sooby (mud dirt etc) I would recomend keeping the sinus (air box under the fender) for the snorkus and just doing somethig with the under hood part. The factory sinus does a great job of keeping the engine from digesting water. nipper
  13. Well you could go with a used 99 Outback engine with new Head gaskets. But i agree it sounds more like you lost a CV joint. nipper PS Welcome
  14. WOW! That is much much better then i expected for that year car. The passenger compartment did not deform at all. Steering wheel is gonna hurt but its made for that deflection. Jump seats are suicide seats in essence.
  15. sooooooooooooo sounds like someone has gone down this route before. i know i can personally attest to the OW OW OW OW method of checking for spark. nipper
  16. Benchtest the TPS, and check the engine coolant temp sensor. Usually the CTS is responsable for repeatable oddness. nipper
  17. Depending upon which side it is on, you may want to check your fuel filler neck first to make sure its ok . Also a lot of nut-buster in a can (choose your brand) will help. nipper
  18. nipper PS does the red brat come with a joystick?
  19. Its is very obvious to see if it is broken. It may rattle when broken. You may not notice it untill you hit a really big crosswind or an emergency manuver. nipper
