Even with a come-a-long you should have a std nylon strap. I used to do extreemly long pull tests on tow cables for mine sweepers. Life would get really exciting if one of them let go. We learned that you take the nylon strap and put one end on the thing being pulled, and loosely wind it around cable over and over working your way up the cable. This does nothing for pull force, BUT if the hook lets go, it will entrap the cable and keep it from snapping back. If the cable lets loose after the hook it tends to loose energy quickly (the farther away you are the less damage it will do). Nylon straps when they fail (when yanking out a car)tend to unravel or have the stitching let loose. Have we mentioned a flashlight? A GPS enabled phone or GPS comes in handy in a worse case scenario. Being able to find yourself with lat/long is a good thing. A long straight stick also. There is no shame in checking the depth of that puddle your buddy just went through, as he may have lucked out. nipper

Well it depends upon how deep off road you are planing on going. Soobies are tough, if you break a CV joint, its usually means you have broken some other serious parts too. Tow strap, shovel (sharp spade type), gloves, portable air compressor for airing down (and back up). A change of shoes is always a good idea. I also keep a rain poncho in the car. ALso you need to bring a friend along or two in another car for deep stuff. I go wheelin alone but am very careful as to where I go and avoid anything iffy. nipper
  6. I havent seen one, but a larger filter may be closer to the exhaust pipe and transfer some heat. Blu has swapped over to the tiny filter, but i am using a mobile 1 filter. I have jeard mixed things about the new OE filter. When in doubt, I go with mobile 1. wix, or another high quality filter. nipper

  9. Nope still the heart of an Auto, but you have a bad front pump. A bad TC has differnt symptons (the car will still move just not very fast). Pumps are very noisey when the die, they whine, and the noise will match engine RPMs. You need a tranny. nipper
  10. Dont worry we have lots of you
  11. Front pump is shot, so you need a tranny. nipper
  12. You need a good old fashioned tuneup. Then we will see if you still have issues.

  16. Not all dealerships are stealerships. I have met corner shops that are bigger freakin thieves. You do realize for all the work and angst and the cost of your time, you could have just walked into a dealership with your vin number, and walked out with new keys? Just go to the dealership and save yourself some work. Be thankful they are not imobilizer keys. nipper
  17. I sometimes think that everyone should be required to have a mandatory 1 hr course on thier cars when they buy them. Also I have seen it where the MFG doesnt really mark it well under the hood that any fluid is special, except for maybe tranny fluid. Now new soobies have a long life coolant that shouldnt be mixed either. Engine oils (for the DYI'er with a little knowledge and a lot of tools) are starting to get specific (motorcycle vs industrial vs classic engines). Going to be another long learning curve. nipper
  18. Are you sure the new bearing was installed properly? http://www.endwrench.com/current/Current6/03/WhBearRep.pdf

  20. Fuel injectors click. try disconnecting the injector and see if that sound goes away.
  21. Sheesh, poeple have other things to do then sit around and look at the computer all day, chill out and give people a chance to respond. It depends upon the sensor. Hall effect sensors it doesnt seem to matter. This is a hall effect sensor. The more exotic the sensor, the better it is to go with OE (like O2 sensors). nipper
  22. But you got to get out of the car, laugh and point at sometime when someone tries to teach thier roo to swim. nipper
