  1. What he said. The front one really needs to be a subaru sensor. Pay a bit more, but fix it once and be done with it. Otherwise look for an exhaust leak. Also you may have to take a multimeter to it to get a better idea whats going on if it is an OE. nipper
  2. Flush first. If flush has no effect, then you have a deeper issues. The clunk may also be as simple as a bad tranny mount, or if this is AWD a bad universal joint. Dont adjust the brake band, as you need an inch-lb torque wrench to do it properly, and with the typical svx tranny issues, will not have any effect. The brake band would not have any effect on 4th gear, which may be the begining of the end. In any case, you will need to add a aftermarket cooler and tranny filter to avoid the SVX curse.A temp gauge would be a good idea too. good luck. nipper
  3. The charcoal canister is made vor vapors, not liquid. Getting liquid in it can cause engine flodding depending upon how the system is set up, or you can saturate the charcaol and it will basicaly turn to muc and possibly clog the lines. nipper
  4. Two completly differnt AWD systems. Two completly different transmissions and extension housings. nipper
  5. Means the bulb may be burned out of broken. The FWD light will be under the tach. It is on when the FWD fuse is inserted. nipper
  6. GIven the cars history, and you have a replacement engine handy, doesnt seem drastic to me. nipper
  7. Also at 8 volts you would barely be able to maintain spark under load. nipper
  8. What he said. Removing the pan just makes alot more headaches. Do four drain, fill, then drives. This circulates fresh oil through the transmission. 1-drain 2-fill 3-start car and put the car through each gear selection and count to 5 each time. 4-drive down the block then repeat. Lets see how that works out. nipper
  9. Take a jumper cable and go from the (-) term of the battery to the engine alt body and see if that has any effect. Where are you measuring the voltage? WHat is the battery voltage when the car is off? How old is the battery (a old battery can kill altenators). I also had something like this on my 87, and it was the electric cooling fans. The bearings in them were shot, and drawing too much current when on. nipper
  10. PS. They are like 100 bucks new, so ebay, here or a junk yard is your best bet
  11. It's an illumination control module. I went through two of them adding JDM gauges. It's on the knee panel to the left of the steering wheel. Best way yo find out if it blew is to smell it. If it blew out you can smell the magical smoke that escaped. nipper
  12. Yes i did read silly. Cats can handle oil consumption surprisingly well. The O2 sensors don't like though. What cats can't handle is ra gasoline. When you burn oil it all does get burned (for arguments sake). If the light is off, see what happens. If you Bang the cat with your hand and it doesnt rattle (when its cold) then your cat is fine. It's possible the O2 sensor has cleared itself up. On a sooby an O2 sensor can go bad at any time over 80,000 miles, but more typically its in the 180,000 range. nipper
  13. This is the first i've heard of a slow crank. Usually cold start issues are the coolant temp sensor. The crank position sensor tells the ecu the piston position, but the cam position sensor has more to do with timing. I would check that one too. nipper
  14. ABS light is the broken tone ring. How do you know the converter is truly bad and its not a lazy O2 sensor? nipper
  15. SLow crank- meaning it takes longer to start, or the starter is turning slower then normal? nipper
  16. Connecting stalling to a transmission issue. How did it stall. Did it just cut out or stumble? How old is the fuel filter? nipper
  17. Wow, what wierd logic. So when was the last time this thing had a tuneup? Any stalling issue needs to be addressed there when you have 100K on the car. On shifting, when was the last time the transmision fluid was changed? nipper
  18. Its a duty solenoid. They are not "On" or "off" they are onoffonoffonoff many times a minute. As they heat up, if it has a problem, they can fail. Sometimes stuff breaks. At least they did the right thing. nipper
  19. What is this re-ad thing you tlak about. And isnt that there just to keep the glove box from rattling?
