Oregon aint the tropics, at least not yet anyway. If you live someplace where you need to worry about emissions or your worried about gas mileage , you need a T stat. nippper

Your car is old enough to be due for a radiator. Remove the radiator and inspect it. If you have AC you realy cant see the condition of the cooling fins. Replace the radiator cap. Take a hose and wet the belts, see if the whistling goes away. nipper

i thought there was a tariff if you bought in a car from outside CA. Look at the CA dmv web site. nipper

no. Replace the solenoid. This is a duty solenoid. It rapidly opens and closes, it is not an on - off solenoid. The solenoid may fail under heat, or have a slow response time. You can not check that on a bench in your garage. You can test the coil resistance. You have gone this far, you really need to replace the wear parts. This is like rebuilding an engine and replacing only one main bearing. Do a partial rebuild, and i will promise you you will be back in that transmission doing it all again. nipper PS Why are you doing this anyway? Leave the duty switch on again ?

The blinking is to catch your attention, dont ignore it or second guess it, as it can result in a expensive repair. It is NOT automatically a duty C problem, as it can be as simple as a bad temp sensor in the trany. There are 6-7 solenoids in the tranny, so it can be any one of those. How does the car behave on low speed tight turns. Ther tranny shop your dealing with isnt very good. There is a way to read the codes yourself without a computer. nipper

hrmmmm This sounds like an intermittent electrical issue. Do you have a scanner that can freeze data in real time? What i would try is dissconnets and re connect the conectors for the injectors, temp sensor, cam and crank sensors. This will clean the terminals. i am suspicous of the cam or crank sensors. Usually this is a sympton of one of them going bad. Make sure they are clean at the business end. INspect the knock sensor. The knock sesnor wil normally throw a code. The Cam and crank sensors wont if its an odd ball intermittent issue. nipper
