  1. 1- Yes 2- if it is bad enough that the dealer is syaing the 2 pistons need to be replaced (people end up having huge fights with dealers over this) then do it. 3- That is the common replacement procedure. Do a search here on piston slap and sit down with a cup of your favorit hit beverage, it will be a long read. nipper

Well then hes got great luck, as everyone including the people who make the stuff say it should not be done, or he did it properly by completly cleaning the fuel system and replacing the rubber parts (or confirming that they are alcohol freindly). I have done lots and lots of research on this, and ther is alway one odd ball claiming it works (see the water thread) but everyone strongly advises against it. nipper

  4. OEm for front, and 99% of the time it solves the problem. The cat is good for 100,000 miles, the sensors are 50 i think. nipper
  5. the new generation forum Another thing to look at, it may be time to replace the break hoses. They can get soft internally and give you what you are feeling. nipper
  6. You have combustion gasses getting into the water jackets. If you are lucky its a HG, if your not it can be a cracked head. How is your oil level? Pull the plugs and see if they all match, or if one is cleaner then the others (sign of burning water). nipper
  7. You may have a problem now. Ethanol is a strong slvent. you may have loosened up all the crud in your fuel system. I dont know how long it takes for the stuff to attack rubber, with any luck yuo have escaped that. I dont think its going to hurt any of the floats either, but you DO have to change the fuel filter now. There is alot of things that have to be changed to run on e85 to make a car run on it. nipper
  8. This is in the wrong forum, but do you have rear drums? Frozen rear adjusters or mal adjusted brakes can cause this problem. WEak brake hardware in the rear can do it too. nipper
  9. Torque bind in a manual is terminal. It's like finding out you have cancer and 3 days to live. The viscous coupling is cooked. There is no longer any slip between plates. You need either a new VC assembly with the center diff, or a used transmission. Unlike automatics, there is no way of rectufying this or trying to make it work. The viscous coupling is a sealed unit within the tranny and it does not use the gear oil. nipper
  10. Its always bad that the cat is actually bad. It's rare at that mileag but it happens. When you hit your hand against the (cold) cat does it rattle? A bad o2 sensor or two can cause the car to run rich and burn up the cat. How long did you drive with a bad o2 sensor? nipper
  11. OE has been doing it for many many years. Its a common conversion on older (read pre alternator) cars. i see no harm in it, just get the wiring right. It does eliminate the possability of just replacing a bad regulator. nipper PS why would you want to do this?
  12. lets see him put his finger in the flame, if the flame is cool. Patents dont mean anything. At least he calls it Hydrogen technology, bot brown gas. What they dont show is how they get the hydrogen out of the water. you can run any engine on H2 with no problem. Ibnteresting to notice that all these vehicals have carberators, and none have fuel injection. At least the second one seems more honest. nipper
  13. Do two checks, one is simple. Get a vacume gauge and hook it up. Give us the readings, as we can tell the health of the enigine by what the needle is doing and what it is reading. Next you may want to do a compression test to make sure mechanically the engine is not feeling its age. Carberator is the most likely suspect when everything else is exhausted, but it would be to get status on the engine health. nipper

  15. So austrailia is in a 1000 year drought sand they are playing with water to energy cars. There are several things worng here. The puff os smoke was defanitly from gasoline. If this was such a true invention he would not go by Joe X. You cant have combustion (compression) without heat. a cold running engine is bad for the oil. I found this http://educate-yourself.org/fe/fejoewatercell.shtml Someone is smoking really good dope out there. They are saying there is no friction in the engine, and that the mixture implodes. Hydrogen burn colorless (i worked with Hydrogen can make interesting fires). This is seriously flawed in so many way. its funny to read. nipper
  16. Only one way to find out. Disconnect the relay. Take an ohm meter and place one end on the relay terminal, the other on the fuel pump feed. This will check the wire (you will need extra wire to do this). SHake the harness at the tank end and see if you loose continuity. Its very very rare that there is a wiring problem. you may have a bad relay that is on its way out. nipper
  17. What he said and easy to check. You will feel it in the seat of your pants. Get under the car, midpoint and see the driveshaft and its bearings. grab both driveshafts and shake. There should be no play in the X or Y direction. There should be none at the bearing either. nipper

  19. Its a pressure sensor. It ups the idle rpm at full lock. If you dont have one you dont need it. nipper
  20. if it was anything mechanical, the subaru dealership would have told you. Thats the purpose of the cupons, to get you in and find things wrong. Since they didnt im betting tires. nipper
  21. have we cleaned the mass airflow sensor? i'm sort of stumped since the car is not in front of me. There arent many things that are working while the car is in open loop, but the airflow sensor is one of them. nipper
