  1. thats hard to say, if they are really off may be higher. sometimes that dont affect them at all. nipper
  2. NONONONO No turkey for you untill its fixed. Now turn around go home and fix your car hehehehehehehe happy thanksgiving nipper
  3. thats why frequent oil changes are needed even more so on cars that see low annual mileage. nipper
  4. Get yourself a haynes manual to start off with, it will make life easier for everyone as we try to explain things. This will also tell you how to pull the codes off this car. Since the o2 sensor is at the heart of the emissions system, i would put that on the list of things to replace, as that has a huge effect on your gas mileage. There are a few things that this can be, it can be the Idle Air control motor is sticking (what happnes when you turn on the a/c), it can be a bad knock sensor, it can be the tps. Which temp sensor did you replace, hopefully the one for the computer. nipper
  5. SIgh ... How many miles are on this car. Ok here we go. First do all the tires match. Secondly how long has the car been doing this. Next when was ther last time the tranny fluid has been changed. A bad/stuck duty C solenoid will throw a code. Put the fuse in the FWD fuse holder and tell us what happens. Also since this is pre 1997 1/2 it is very possible that the AWD unit is wiped out and needs to be replaced. Everyone seems to forget that the AWD unit is more then just the solenoid. Its also a spool valve and seals. Pre 1997 1/2 the seals go bad, the aluminum internal housing can wear away causing TB. Also if he has been driving like this for a while odds are the damage is done. nipper
  6. No one takes the engine out of the car. Do a search here and you will find out how to do it. nipper
  7. yes answer our questions above, then we can help you. Also i said to TEST the parts first, otherwise your just throwing money at it. Just throwing parts at things is NOT the easy way to fix somethng. nipper
  8. They are aiming for the 2007 model year, but i suspect it will be 2008 http://blogs.edmunds.com/.ee8fe18 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11997143/ http://www.whatcar.com/news-article.aspx?NA=221468 nipper
  9. Oh i'm sorry, that they dont lock. Let me rephrase that. Autolocking was a condition of crash testing. SOme cars could only keep thier doors closed by locking them during a crash (hence the autolock) Subaru (i guess) feels it is no longer necassary... nipper
  10. Clear out your cowel drains under the hood. Open the doors and clear out all the dirt and leaves from the front fenders. Under each door there are drains. There are drains in the back of the car i think also, but those you need to look for. nipper
  11. To clean radiators you use dawn and warm water. It should get the scum, especially if its from oil, but old antifreeze that becomes gum not much you can do, and there is nothing you can do about mineral deposits (hence why you dont use tap water in a cooling system. The are rock hard, and the only way to get them out is to recore/rod or replace the radiator. nipper
  12. An o2 sensor can do weird things. That is usally the first thing you replace on a failed emissions, especially if it is over 60,000 miles for ealry subarus, 100,00 0 for newer. nipper
  13. This is subjective, but in all honesty its rare for a sooby impeller to fail, unless there are many many miles on it. You need to watch the flow in the engine, and a worn impeller would cause over heating but not the puking. ANother possability is a clogged raditaor, but again no puking. Puking is from the exhaust gasses pushing the fluid out of the raditor cap through the overflow. nipper
  14. Water vapor is normal on a cold engine, but not usually out of the crankase. you have blowby when cold (maybe warm too but hard to tell unless your burning something), the next question is how much and why. A compression test would help, if the numbers are even and high, its just a high mileage normal engine thing. Its nothing that is going to be disastarous today tomorrow or next month, but it would be nice to dig around a bit. Also do change your pcv valve. nipper
  15. My subaru rebuilt 2.5 with now 4000 miles on it is as quiet as a mouse in the morning. nipper
  16. When was the last time you made sure all your body drains were free of clogs? nipper
  17. Ok people lets review, we need to know mileage on these posts to help. Also you need to do a wet and dry compression test before we can tell you if its rings or valves. Rings we can try an additve, valves we cant. nipper
  18. Well it would be helpful if you told us the mileage on th car. Secondly what are your oil change intervals. it can be a sympton of blow-by, can mean too many short trips, can mean absoloutly nothing. If your not loosing coolant i wouldnt worry about it. Remeber oil in these engines does vaporize a bit, mix that with humidity in the air, a little blowby and you will see that. Clean the cap and keep track of it, but i wouldnt panick. Now the oil levle, chexk the bottom of the engine to see if it is wet. Rule out oil leaks (subrua can leak and not leave any drips). If you burned it you would have seen smoke at that low a consumption. Have somone drive behind you and watch for smoke. nipper
  19. Locking doors is part of the sfatey systems that help the car pass the crash tests. I really dont think there is any way around them (liability issue). Auto locking doors have been around for ages, you will just need to adjust to them. nipper
  20. er um... no 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 are easily balanced ( one up one down) 3 is not and usually use a counterbalance shaft or some sort of weight to make them smooth. Only GM made the colassal mistake of converting gas engines to deisel. Everyone else on the planet had the good sense to start from scratch. The only thing that MAY be common is the block casting. As far as fitting anything else under the hood, it isnt going to work easily. The subaru engines overall height is far lower then any V or inline engine. Also goiuing to a non oppsed engine witll generally drastically change the handling, as the car would be nose heavy. nipper
  21. Common thing is for the hoses O rings to go bad and leak, check that first. Subaru racks dont leak when they go bad, they just get very stiff. nipper
