  1. So I got an 86 GL that has terribly blown head gasket or cracked head (quart of water mixed in oil), and I want to put my good Block from my 88 DL parts car into it and just put all the carb'd stuff off the blown engine and put in all onto the good shortblock. Is there any difference between an SPFI block and heads and a Carburated block and heads? -They're both Manual and both non-power steering Thanks everyone for any input!
  2. The rear output shaft from tranny? Or the driveline? I just recently rebuilt all three U-joints on the driveline
  3. Has anyone ever driven it like this for a long period? Will there be any long term damage, like can I remove the toast front axle and drive it like this for a while?
  4. So i was driving my 87 GL turbo, with the part-time (push button) 4wd 5-speed, and my front CV axle had been going out for a while, but finally earlier today did the dramatic "Crunch... POW!!" earlier and wouldn't drive in front wheel drive so I had no choice but to drive home in 4wd (Rear wheel drive) for about 15 miles. It drove the whole way perfectly smooth and it barely made any clicky click sounds around corners my concern is if this could have damaged my front Diff. or the Center Diff?? And what transmissions can be easily swapped in, I have an RX tranny, a non-turbo D/R 5speed from an 87 GL, and another non-turbo part-time 4wd 5speed in an 86 DL

  6. With the number one piston on TDC with valves closed. Either mark is about 45degrees off from either side timing references. If you rotate the thin line mark scribed on the balancer then it is number 5 cylinder on TDC.
  7. the key is still good, the engine ran great before the computer went out
  8. I have a 1985 ford f250 with a 300 bored .60 over and the timing marks on the harmonic balancer do not relate to TDC on the number 1 cylinder. The marks are aligned with TDC on number 5. How can this be?
  9. another good way to get more power and mpg is to install a good cold air intake, or intercooler in my case. with my engine running cooler than ever before and not getting hot sometimed it gave me an easy 5mpg increase
  10. does the RX tranny have different bearings than the 5mt optional front wheel tranny
  11. recently ive heard about people putting Lsd diffs into the transmission in the front so they can have the front and rear differentials limited slip sounds like some awesome off-roading/rallying to me
  12. I'm sure its somewhere, but I can't really find anything on the effects of having no backpressure on an ea82 turbo engine My front cat on my 87 GL Turbo recently fell off, so I put a small section of pipe on it to keep exhaust off the CV axle. It seems to be running smoother and a little more powerful, but I keep thinking it could damage something internally driving it like that. Anyone have first hand experience with this?? Haha
  13. so recently ive noticed a weird vibration on the passenger side (right front) in my 87 GL Turbo wagon if i turn left at speeds over 50mph. it has a s/r part time 4wd 5spd. i recently replaced the cv axle, wheel bearings, and ball joint. and when i changed the axle i realized that the inner cv joint can move around a bit, what im wondering is if its a bearing on the output shaft or just that its really worn out. and how hard it is to replace/change it thanks everyone
  14. alright awesome. and yeah they're both 3.70 final drive. the one in my wagon is single range right now, im wanting the dual range and full-time out of the RX. so is the RX 4wd and Awd?? lol and i have all the kits except the sides, still wanna get some myself haha im not sure about doing the kits on my wagon yet, but if i dont ill let ya know about the rear corner pieces
  15. hey everyone, ive recently acquired an 87 RX coupe and i cannot get a title, so its been a parts car to my 87 turbo wagon for a bit. i was wondering how much trouble it would be to swap the 5spd dual range Awd RX tranny into my GL that has a part time Awd 5-spd im sure its been done with how similar they are, i just wanna know what all is involved in doing the swap thanks!
  16. only jumpy tach and random engine dying ive had was from my Crank Angle sensor going out.. that was on my EA82T, but im guessing yours is carbed or SPFI so i dont think it would have one
  17. just kind of curious because people everywhere keep swearing my car is a GL-10 and i end up having to show them my title and VIN to prove otherwise lol, but does anyone know if theres a difference between an '87 GL Turbo and an '87 GL-10 Turbo??
  18. what about 10w40 ?? just wonderin, ive noticed it runs a little smoother on the 10w
  19. turbo engines can make high miles my EA82T is at 235,000 miles all stock and no exhaust port cracks!!! only problem its had is valve cover gaskets leakin, but any EA82 has that problem anywhere over 200k miles
  20. Hey everyone! Just acquired a 93 Blazer with a 4.3l V6 and its been sitting for a month or two with coolant/water in the oil from either head gasket, cracked head, or intake gasket. But what I want to try and find out is what the best way to flush the oil and get as much water, and maybe rust, out of the engine as I can
  21. sorry, i hope that was somewhat clear enough to help out a bit..
  22. i got a reman axle and brand new bearings.. there was no way that they would have gone together without the bearings being bound up to the point that they left marks on the inside of the bearing channels when i barely had the bearings half way onto axle. so idk, could have been axle or bearings i guess.. it was the only 25 spline axle i could find at all, and had to go through 5 different axles before the parts store could order the right one LOL
