No power past 4grand.
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not on my brand new exhaust!!! However, i do have a custom catless 2.5" downpipe ive been meaning to put on. It has enough pipe at the end to cover the 2nd cat (the one with a gash). Only problem is finding a shop that'll do it. I know of one, but i dont like the guys welds. Maybe he's improved in the past couple years. Oh, and it builds boost just fine. -Brian -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Fuel filter was replaced in September... car died in November and took a 6month break. So the filter should still be good. I didnt think about the cat comming apart and clogging things up. I cant really disconnect it, my entire exhaust is 1 piece. I'd have to unbolt it from the turbo, but then it would hang and drag on the ground. -Brian -
Lemme break out the old vids of when my wagon was alive. You will need DiVX installed to view these: http://usmb.net/albums/albuo73/JunkieDirt.avi http://usmb.net/albums/albuo73/JunkieDirtStuck.avi <--- warning, 40mb file http://usmb.net/albums/albuo73/HatchPatrol_Junkie_Run1.wmv <-- My only run with the famous Hatch Patrol http://usmb.net/albums/albuo73/JunkieSoobme2.avi http://usmb.net/albums/albuo73/Subaru_Tool.wmv <-- Some video editing work i did... short intro I never completed. Feels like a fuel problem too. Exhaust is brand new. As a matter of fact, there shouldnt be any restriction at all since I tore a 8" gash in my catalytic converter. Maybe time for a new fuel pump? -Brian -
Whatsup? Car kinda just loses its guts. In 1st gear I can get it to skate to 4500. 5000 is worthless. Once i shift out of 1st gear, no point in trying to go past 4000rpm. Seems like ALL my power is between 1700-3500. Full boost doesnt help, doesnt even seem like its trying to pull when i have it at WOT. The other day I came off a red light. Tried to hot rod it, and it screamed past 1st gear, as soon as i shifted into 2nd and held it at WOT the engine just kinda went BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... no real power at all. Major hesitation, until i let off the throttle. Seems I have to be easy on the peddle and gradually increase the throttle as the motor speeds up. But again, once Im at 4k i am forced to shift. What Gives? -Brian

Tex's RX thread for... April '06!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Wish the best for you Tex. My motor has some wierd hesitation too under boost. I dont have all the cool gadgets you do, so i dunno where my fuel ratio is at. Alls I know, is i finally have low end torque. Makes power till about 4k and thats about it. Oh, N/A block... stock RHB5 and so far, un-intercooled. -Brian -
Bay Area Meet... Early May?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
No idea when it will be. Trying to get some input here. So yeah... what weekends are best? I can do it almost any weekend. -Brian -
Rally Cars backfire cause they are running close to 400hp. Your EA82 is running close to 90hp. Good Luck -Brian

Its a very common upgrade. Check out the article in our USRM (Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual). You will find a link to the USRM to the top right of the website. Parts are readily available in your local junkyard -Brian

Last impreza meet i went to in the bay area had a few hundred. All impreza's, was like looking in a mirror, facing another mirror. Just rows of impreza's. Never again. This will be a USMB member meet. -Brian -
Dave the water pump couldnt be any easier to replace even if it were bolted directly to the top of the motor The impeller is int he pump., and the entire pump sits flush to the motor. As soon as you unbolt the old pump, just give it a good thwak with the backside of your hammer and it should pop right off. Then bolt the new one on.. badabing -Brian

Ok guys, my car is running so there is no excuse now. Im willing to travel to the bay area to meet some of you oldschool guys out there. Looks like everyone is busy in April, so how about we plan for something early May? Would also like to plan something central to us all. Maybe we can do a drive in Napa Valley. I know of some awesome roads out that way, also know of some good places in Sonora... but that maybe too far for some to drive. Lets start brainstorming. I want everyone there! -Brian

Bbq Cancelled Due To.....
TheSubaruJunkie replied to 86ruguy's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Dude just be lucky you got subie guys to meet with. I have to drive 2 hours each way to meet with my bud's. -Brian -
Phizinza's got it. Instead of Auto Trans Fluid, I use MMO (marvels Mystery Oil) or some seafoam. Rev the motor to about 2500rpm and dump about 1/4 qt. into the carb... let the carb choke, but keep the motor alive. Do that about 2 or 3 times. -Brian
-
Yeah, definatly sounds fuel related. I doubt its anything like a blown headgasket tho Check your filters and for the heck of it spray some carb cleaner around the base of your carb. Check for any leaking carb or manifold gaskets. I would also try the italian tune up. -Brian
-
Doubt the water we drove through last weekend would make it act like this, expecially 3 days later. Might need to perform one of daves "italian tune ups". Could have gotten some gunk in the carburator. And yes... the idle on your brat is alittle high ;-) -Brian oh, and when was the last time you changed the fuel filters? That could cause a problem like this.

Well 1st, let me say this. If you put a lift and tires on that pretty wagon, after a couple wheelin trips your going to destroy your $5000 Subaru. Now, let me tally up what ive gotten into my RX: Car: $1000 Rims: $80 Tires: $280 (Mount & Ballanced) Exhaust: $300 (No idea WHY you'd pay $600... ive never paid more than $300 for a COMPLETE exhaust.) Suspension: $60 Intercooler: $40 Pipe for I/C: $30 New(er) Turbo: $80 Stereo: $200 Amps: $150 Subs: $150 then my motor blew up... so now... Block #1: $80 Woops, that block is bad Block #2: $80 Head work: $335 (polished ports, valve grind, new guides, whole shabang) Clutch Kit: $150 SOA Gasket Kit: $200 Not about to add all that up, im affraid to see how much I've dumped into it. All I can say is Junkyards are your friend. Find a Factory Service Manual, and learn how to read & understand it. Unless you enjoy paying other people to work on your car. Thats cool to, just dont come crying to us "WAhhh i spent $5000 on my subaru" -Brian
