EA81 4 speed pops out of 1st upon Decelleration.
Sooboutlaw, not sure if youve wheeled a subaru before... but that statement isnt aplicable when it comes to downhill decents. GD & Russ, thanks for the replies. I guess it is time for a 5spd. Too bad I have a whole list of other shizz than needs to be done 1st. Toppping the list is the installation of my Lift, and as of last weekend I am in dire need of a new passenger side front CV Joint. -Brian

EA81 4 speed pops out of 1st upon Decelleration.
This has been happening way too often. Sometimes it happens in 4low while im decending a hill, and sucks cause then I start rolling downhill like crazy. Happens in 2WD even more often. When im decellerating, if I put the gearbox in 1st and release the clutch... it will pop out into neutral. Doesnt do it in 2nd, has never happend in 3rd or 4th either. Im hoping this is a simple fix, anyone know what would cause this? -Brian

Steering wheel swap: Legacy to EA81
Cut the center of the EA81 wheel out, and cut the center of the Legacy wheel out. Have the EA81 center welded into the Legacy wheel. Unless you know someone who can make an adapter, but that wont be cheap. -Brian

statement for wind deflector
Im going to put "Slower Traffic Keep Right -->" backwards on my hood so ppl can read it in their rear view. If you really want to be nice, you could put "www.ultimatesubaru.org" on there -Brian

Tire Size
It should be noticeable. I switched from 175/70's to 185/70's and noticed a decrease in acceleration. If you are running steel rims, you may want to find a set of alloys, those will also make a noticeable difference. -Brian

Memorial Weekend camping with some Jeepers.
Doesnt look yellow to me, but im slightly color blind so i dunno. That pond is heavily overgrown with lilliepads, underwater weeds and algae. Probably contributes to the color of the water... and probably the reason I didnt catch any fish out of it. Oh well, still made for good scenery. OHH!!! The Mud crossing! Thats from all the mud the jeepers kicked up. Not sure why its that color, that area was the old mining operation and its full of decomposed granite. Probably why its slightly yellow. I tried that crossing last year with my lifted wagon and made it. Next year i'll attempt it again! -Brian

Memorial Weekend camping with some Jeepers.
Thats me pulling him. His gearing is WAY low... like 172:1 ratio, so when he was free'd of the snow it wasnt that easy to pull anymore. Was still fun, and we got to razz him the rest of the night "HAHA You got pulled out by a Subaru!" Next year I will be lifted, and the pictures will be alittle better. But the scenery was great, and provided some good shots -Brian

Memorial Weekend camping with some Jeepers.
Every year I get together with my parents neigbor. Ive known him since I moved here, and it seems every Memorial Day Weekend we head out to the woods to camp. These are seasoned campers, usually 4 or 5 familys and every year is a blast. Dave (the neigbor) has a CJ7 locked and geared down. His buddy showed up this year with his lifted cruiser, locked, 38's, V8 etc etc and even a toyota was there (beadlockers, 35's, complete custom cage and everything). Last year was fun, cause I showed up with my lifted wagon. Of course, i got razzed a bunch, but as soon as we hit the trails I pretty much shut them all up. This year was different since I didnt have my lifted wagon. All I had was the hatch, stock except for cut fenders and my bumper and rack. Still alittle razzing, but that didnt stop me from going out with them to go find some snow. The hatch didnt do to bad. Street tires really suck, expecially on some of this mud we had. And as long as I had momentum, the snow wasnt a big deal either. Although, my tow strap got plenty of use, there was one chance I got to pull the Cruiser The Jeep could have pulled him out even easier, but the yota wasnt stuck that bad. Just didnt have the momentum to carry him through the drift and I only have to give a few tugs to get him going. After that we hit up a old mining operation, where there were plenty of hills and mud to play in. If i had some tread on my tires I would have tried this... but being stock I opted to stay on dry land. We played alittle in the mud, i had to get pulled out of a hole... i wasnt stuck, just couldnt make it up the incline with my tires full of peanut butter. Swampers should fix that, whenever i get them. On the way back to camp, i even got a chance to use my roof rack finally! Its not just for show. Definatly a great weekend. I did come home with some damage however... i lost the rear drivers side mud flap, slightly bent the bottom of my bumper, and my front passenger CV is toasted. Still worth it, now time to increase the clearance and get some tread! -Brian

Lift kit steel?
No thats cool and all... wanting to do it yourself. Thats what this board is all about. But for a 3" kit, a subframe is way overkill. If your gonna do all that, why stop at 3"? Do a 6 or 8" lift. -Brian
-
New brat?
Yeah dude, a brat for under a grand. Im suprised its still available. I say, if you really want it, you better show up tonight with cash in hand. -Brian
-
Lift kit steel?
Bolts arent cheap either... Steel + bolts + time and effort = more than it would cost to just get a PK or BYB lift. -Brian

My garage is now complete!

seafoam ea82 help
YEah, find the big black round canister at the front passenger side of your car, inside the engine bay. There will be a few hoses plugged into the top of it. Find one that leads directly to the intake manifold. Stick that hose into the can and let it suck in about 1/4 of the bottle of seafoam. Have your hand on the throttle and blip it a couple times... the seafoam will try to kill your engine. Let the engine revive itself, and then keep it up. After 1/4 of the can is gone, drive the car alittle.... then do it again. Pour the other 1/2 of the can into your gas tank. Make sure you have less than 1/3-1/4 tank of fuel... then drive the car the rest of the week until its on E. Fill up, and have fun. -Brian
