  1. A friend just turned me onto some GCK Axles. They are not rebuilt and are brand new. I havent found a retailer yet who carries them, and I hear they maybe special order. My buddy wheels his lifted EA81 and has had no problems as of yet. I have another friend who has some MWE axles. They look like some great axles, but his rig has been down so it hasnt seen much wheelin. Its a Brat with a 4" lift. MWE wants $85 an axle and $30 for shipping... thats $115 an axle, $230 for a pair. I cant bring myself to spend that much, i'll have to check with GCK and see what they want for an axle. -Brian
  2. Yeah, i would suggest selling it and using the money to buy or have one fabricated for your subaru. IF you hack that up, it may not look good at all, and you would have ruined a very nice (and expensive) brush guard. Slap it on Craigslist for a week, maybe ask $350-$400 and see who bites. Thats a huge brushguard, someone with a cruiser would love to have it. I'd keep the lights though -Brian
  3. I guess your right Zap. Now that I think of it, ive never killed a subie with its exhaust under water either. Only once, but that was cause I had 5 or 6 holes drilled in my cat (thought it was clogged). I was with you guys on that trip you mentioned above. Fun Times A snorkel wouldnt have helped much here, but this was enough water to kill my wagon. Water line came up just under the fan, and with the fan spinning it kicked water all over my disty: Shortly thereafter I found a rubber disty cover from a Toyota 22R and modified it to fit the Subaru Cap. Then I used a length of fuel line, and a fuel filter attatched to the distributor cap vent. It worked out great -Brian
  4. Would probably take 5-10 years to recoup the money you spent for the conversion, in gas savings. There has been talk of people doing hybrid projects with their justy's but I never saw anything streetable. -Brian
  5. It shouldnt be too hard to do. Im sure you could come up with a way to mount it. I mounted a CB to the roof of my wagon, but the headliner isnt plastic like the brats... so it was as easy. -Brian
  6. Did you make sure to bevel those holes? -Brian
  7. Everyone wants his camera... that thing is probably what paid for all his cars and toys Good shots mav, for jumpin the mint '79, but definatly x2 for jumpin a subaru!! -Brian
  8. I dont think EA82T's have this valve you speak of. Maybe im wrong, but i know its not needed to do the swap. Check out the USRM for the details. -Brian
  9. Im not sure if BYB is still making lifts anymore... but he's the man to talk to. You can reach him on the au.subaru board. Just do a google search for BYB Subaru and you'll find their forum. And there's no such thing as a cheap lift. Even building one yourself is gonna cost some money. I'd listen to scott, he's one of our USA lift fabricators and he should know what he's talkin about. I believe you can use some sort of honda front springs on your rear struts to increase the rear end a couple inches. Front ends gonna be a pain, cause you'll need to put blocks ontop of your struts and if you go high enough you'll also need to drop your engine crossmember to soften the angle on your front CV's. The Off-Road forum has most the info you need, just gotta search there. -Brian
  10. Just make sure, if your '84 is a 4WD you get the rear disc's from another 4WD. If your '84 is 2WD, you will need to find a 2WD with rear disc's to use. Other than that, any year will work. -Brian
  11. Wow Paul... the big 10k. I remember that milestone... keep it up, your catching up to me -Brian
  12. Honestly... if someone offered me $2g's for a Gen1, i'd have to jump on it. Not many people will be willing to offer you that much, and when you do decide to sell it (if the time ever comes) you'll be hard pressed to find a buyer, and may turn out kicking yourself for passing up this deal. Of course, that is a very sweet wagon. Very pristine and it would take alot to pry it from my cold dead hands. -Brian
  13. How long does it take to get to the top? Will this be a full day of wheeling? Not sure how you have it planned out with the show and all... maybe we need to get up bright and early and head out at like 7ish. I remember last year me and Jibs were out having fun, and we had to put the peddle to the metal to get back in time for the award ceremony. I trust Eric will have everything straightened out. Those trails look prime! Definatly stock-subaru friendly. This is going to be one hell of a trip. -Brian
  14. After a testimony like that... then yes, i would have to say addatives do make a difference Glad to hear its running better. Now get it smogged so you can finish the project and get it to some shows! -Brian
  15. If you lift it, you get your own "short shifter". The lift drops the trans 3" so you get a 3" shorter shift knob. Now, if you lift the sube its going to be almost impossible to shift. Im going to be doing something similar to what you did, but to my RX. If you want a REAL nice shift knob... look for a Forester Turbo leather wrapped knob. Same thread pattern and it is 1,000x more comfortable than the stock EA81 knobs. I have one on my RX and i love it. -Brian
  16. I think Jibs got one of his brats to float. -Brian
  17. Bring a trailer with you just in case I would like to come up, but I think im going to spend some time focusing on my new hatchback and get some wheelin done! Have fun Russ. -Brian
  18. If the '87 GL has a high/low lever for the 4WD, then buy it! Then lift it! end of story. -Brian
  19. I agree with the roofline snorkle being alittle overkill. I think if your THAT far under water, you have alittle more to worry about than your engine running... that, and your exhaust will already be 3' underwater... unless you keep your revs up real high the exhaust will kill the motor before the water in the intake does it. I have an idea im gonna bounce around for my snorkle. I'll have to worry about other things 1st (lift, tires, air tank) but soon you guys will see -Brian
  20. My '84 Hatch has a JDM motor in it I cant play this game. -Brian
  21. Dont think Copper spray is gonna give you that water tight seal the gaskets gonna want. Better play it safe and use the silicone. -Brian
  22. I love making my own trails. My brush guard does a great job of guarding brush -Brian
  23. Dude, Will, stop beating around the bush. Other people here are beating you to it!! Do a EJ Swap, and be done with it. -Brian
  24. Yeah right, then spend another $20k on a tow rig. I think not! Reason I wheel a subaru, is cause I can drive it to work the day after. -Brian
