best material for ic piping
TheSubaruJunkie replied to thesubeguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got my pipe from an online warehouse. I bought 2 3/8" O.D. stainless steel mandrel bends. I bought two U bends and cut them in half to make four 90 degree elbows. Then I bought 2 3/8" I.D. silicone couplers from Turbohoses.com. I used a can of blue engine enamel to paint the pipe. The hose comming out of my turbo is just 1.75" I.D. and 2" O.D silicone 90 degree bend. I have a 2 3/8" ID to 2" ID reducer that mates the turbo hose to the stainless steel leading to my I.C. THe pipe cost me $28 shipped to my door, i recieved it 4 days after i ordered it. The hoses cost me almost $60 for the 3 pieces shipped. Dont expect to find any cheap silicone out there. I plan to replace the rubber reducer I have now for a silicone one, but they are much more expensive. What IC do you have? -Brian -
Expecially since Superlift has absolutly no interest in Subaru's... yeh. -Brian

NV To WCSS Caravan Thread...

Take our time probably. Jibs will most likely have his brat PACKED with a trailer behind it. We'll probably make worse time than you NV folk -Brian -
rear trailing arm replacement (83 Brat)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Jibs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dont waste your time with EA82 stuff Jibs. The rear disk brakes will bolt up to EA81 trailing arms and it will be alot easier to work with EA81 stuff. Any rear trailing arm from any 4WD EA81 wagon, hatch or sedan (even brat) will work. I would look for something in the 1986 range at the yard, to ensure the lowest of miles. -Brian -
Off road-cool bumpers??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to peskyjiggler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Expect to pay anywhere between $300 to $500 for the set, front and rear. Depends on who you have make them, if you can find a local fabricator to make them you might get them alittle cheaper. What i did was made up some drawings of what I wanted, and sent them to Tony at TWB. He then used a parts car to fit everything up, made my front bumper and my roof rack to my spec's and i went to pick them up. -Brian -
Thanks for sharing that Eric. I still doubt we'll get any coverage in an off-road magazine, i think we should shoot for something like Autoweek, Motor Trend, or maybe that classic car magazine (cant remember the name). A general automotive magazine would be easier to get coverage from, since the off-road mag's tailor primarily to Jeeps and Toyota's. -Brian

Not to mention the inlet on the AWIC is 1.75 and the outlet is 2" i believe. So he's going from large, to small, back to large. -Brian

Dave im down to sleep in a bed, in a heated room Ask Jibs if he's going to be interested... i know he'll have one extra with him. Vancouver sounds like a good idea. Me and jibs will already be up in portland when you guys roll through... so keep the cell #'s handy, or check for us on the CB. -Brian -

I bought my CB from walmart for $30. I went cheap on the CB and got a good antenna for it. DONT SKIMP ON THE ANTENNA! -Brian -
Yup, thats what I'd do. Or cut the wire and splice in some more to lengthen it. -Brian

Putting a Hood scoop on RX
TheSubaruJunkie replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool, im glad to see there is another RX owner nearby. I dont see RX's at all in Sacramento except for mine. There is one other one driven by some old lady. We oughta get together and rally our RXs. I have a couple subaru buddies in the area and we try to get together every now and then to drive. -Brian -

I lost a magnetic mount on the way to WCSS6 last year. Scared the crap out of me to hear it slide off my trunk and into my fender (and wheel). Magnet shattered but luckily it didnt peirce my tire. I stopped at the next radioshack and bought a new one. Me and Jibs will be Traveling north on I-5 from Sacramento to Olympia. We both have CB's and will most likely be on channel 5. if not just scan around. If we're nearby you will hear us We have ALOT of driving to do, and i doubt either one of us will have passengers in our cars. -Brian -
Since AMC was pretty much all american, i doubt any eagles made it to the UK. The Eagle is pretty much THE ugliest car. -Brian

Not to nitpick... but to nitpick I think it'd be alittle easier on the eyes if the blue border around the yellow letters were just alittle thicker. Other than that i think it works out pretty good. Might want to list a couple features we'll be having for the show. Like the Campground capacity, onsite features, the swap meet and the all terrain park will also be some sale points. How big are these going to be printed? I will be happy to distribute some around town after they come off the presses. -Brian P.S. Prices might be a good idea too... so people dont show up with an empty pocket and an attitude.

Putting a Hood scoop on RX
TheSubaruJunkie replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sais you are from Davis. Is that Davis CA? Nobody makes custom hoods for our RX's Not yet at least. And installing a scoop really depends on which scoop you use. Calebs scoop was pretty easy to install since it fits within the center hump. Others, however, arent as easy. I have a scoop from a 2002 WRX and it is about 5" too wide to fit my hood. I will either need to make the WRX scoop 5" skinnier or alter my hood in some way. This is whats been keeping me from doing my installation. -Brian -
RX Disty: Hitachi or Nipodenson?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I took the cap off today but didnt see any identifying marks on it. I found a 1 stamped where the #1 plug goes. There were no clips, but 2 screws. And no tabs sticking off the bottom of it to fit in the disty. I was going to goto the store and look at the 2 and make a decision now that I know what mine looks like. But then I started playing WoW. I just finished and its almost 11pm. So i'll need to get a cap tomorrow after work. -Brian -
coilover and strut swap?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is no reason why you cant. And if your going to lift the car then it doesnt matter if they're adjustable or not. -Brian
