  1. see anything out of place
  2. this moshine will have all that Ive learned about wheelin put into it, I want to stick to the soobie trasnsaxle so yes some more low end torque is required to make up for lack of gears , will also need to beef up the front radias rod area as thats ben a bending issue for me and also run rub rails and door bars are in line , got to keep it light tho
  3. got the rearend were I want it , did a bunch of trimmin behind the tire , looks like I will be using the front of the leaf springs as 2 links and cut them short just behind the axle then use a panhard or maybe a diagonal brace from the axle to the front pivot area , will see how it gos once I get the front braces welded up and do a flex test, maybe use some longer springs like off a jetta or maybe some air shocks we'll see , Talked to Monstaru at length looks like a EJ22 with a Delta torque grind may be in the future, I want to keep the stock soobie trans , dont really want the extra weight of a front diff and a t-case also loosing center ground clearance with the tcase addition , also put a wagon rear glass in the door its all the same except the back top corner is 2" to long want to see if theres a way to cut the glass to fit
  4. just bring it over I can help done a few of them, or just donate the the whole car to my pile
  5. progress looks like Im going with 31 x 11.5 -15 mud tires the rims are 8" wide with 3" back space as the datsun rearend is like 5 inch narrower then the soobs , will keep front stock soobie with 6-8 inch lift
  6. I pulled it home with a towbar and I got about a mile down the road and it got really hard to pull, checked it out and the front passenger side brake disc was glowing red/orange and smokin so checked the E-brake it wasnt on so I thought about it and wondered if the hill holder was stuck, so I checked it and it was ,I released it and no probs after that,
  7. OK started a new build Ive seen to many broken rear axles and stub shafts so this ones getting a small import truck rearend here it is in all its glory, been sitting a few, its a DL 2wd stick, has no engine or tranny , got it just down the road, a Free one, this is the good side other side was used for shotgun target practice, Not sure how its all going to turn out but it will have a solid rear axle, looks like I may use a Datsun truck rearend thats what I have in the shop right now, may go with a toyota rear, the datsun ratio looks to be around 4.37 thats a guess , so with a 3.9 up front I could run 31s in the rear and 28s up front, looks like a 6-7" lift is in order, will move the front drive ahead 1- 1/2" moter options not sure its setup for the EA82 FI, I could stay with that, I have A EA81 I could plop in there or I could go the EJ22 route for starters I might keep it stock EA82 FI cause its all set up and I have a moter,
  8. looks good what size are those shoes?
  9. looks good plenty strong on the front strut extention tower shown below looks like its built straight if so this will cause the camber to be off the tops of the tires will tilt out, to correct this the extension needs to be built with angles on top and bottom , keep us posted
  10. $$$$$$ and Time
  11. oouuch! that happen with you guys?
  12. who else ??? lets see what you have done, Im starting a new project and can go any dirrection at this point, would like stronger drivetrain and possibly just maybe lower gears, I can go 720 nissan Transfercase and some solid axles or maybe keep the front soobie parts and put a yota with a locker in the rear , I have the nissan case already and have a stock yota axle , so would I go 4 link or leaf springs and then what spring setup / I have a buddy thats into Sammis maybe check with him on the rear axle setup he has 4 link and coils in his with lots of flex
  13. on EJ clearance theres not much in that oil pan, it could be modified to get a couple more inches
  14. I like it too, I compared the stock Subaru rear diff to the 720 front diff they both have the same mounting and same driveline flange , so the 720 diff will bolt right into the soob with no mods to the mounts, also the 720 front axles are different lengths ones about 4" shorter then the other, also the hub to hub measurment on the 720 Nissan truck is around 5-6" narrower, so if I get a second long axle and put in on then both axles will be same length and it will bring the track out close to the soob track width, so looks like I need to pull apart a sooob rear arm and a nissan front hub arm and see if it fits if not then make a custom arm with the truck bearing holder hooked to the soob arm , if this all works out I will have a stronger rear drive system and unlocking rear hubs and 6 bolt hubs with big disc brakes heres a pic I found its like the one on the left
  15. starting a new offroader build this is what I have decided so far EA82 sedan EJ 2.2 ( either carbed or FI) now heres the questions what should I do for the drive train?? I know what stock will do , seen to many brocken stub shafts and rear axles maybe legacy parts are stronger ?? maybe not? maybe go some kind of truck rear axle or even front IFS setup in rear ? what works and what would you do? I like the lightness and nimbleness of the car stuff but its got its week points which Im ready to live without, I have some parts got a couple Transfercases, got a Datsun 720 pickup dont realy want to just drop the body onto a truck frame would likre to keep it light and car like , not heavy and truck like, also the tires dont need to be that big maybe 31" at the most what would you do? and whats been done and works?? thanks SJR
  16. heres mine, simple and am looking to do it again in my next car
  17. on the SJR adapter plate it has 2 tabs for this purpose uses stock EA82 engine bracket , or if no tabs use a EJ 5 speed trans bracket , pitchbar will need custom fit length
