  1. 2500#? That's all?!! Shoot!!
  2. Nice!! I must've missed the bulletin mentioning not to tow (a 1978 Coleman tent trailer) with a 5MT behind a NA 2.2, particularly sans low gears. Thus I melted my 9 month old clutch Ooh and boat ramps aren't the best either But it sure is awesome pulling to the take out in a lifted sedan with rally cross numerology, strapping on the boat and hauling outta there!! but, I digress. . . So, lesson learned... when you melt a clutch and need to replace it, THAT MEANS IT'S TIME TO UPGRADE THE TRANNY TOO!!
  3. nice!! what are the plans for the brighton? waita second... I noticed in the second video, it was said, while rolling a cig. "pull the transmission, through the auto in it and sell it." Just like that, swap an auto for a standard? isn't that a bit of a bear?? Anyhoo, fun videos. It's like, "a day in the life of the Subaru alliance..." style I must say the 'ol trashwagon 10 sure has come together well!! How well did it pull the brighton? exceeding recommended towing capacity and all
  4. Reference transmission code/labe thread: http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111315 can anyone decode this one? It's a JDM/AUDM transmission 6J-TY757XRBAB I'd like to decode this one but don't have enough info from the mentioned thread's info. Perhaps that is a USDM specific thread? thanks for the help.
  5. Good read. I appreciate the original idea, posting a specific wuestion to get a specific answer, but getting many tertiary posts redirecting the question, etc. But on the topic of 2.5-2.2 swaps and not getting running the OB as well as the torque-ier more powerful 2.5, how well or poorly does a 2.2 turn 4.11 gears? i'm curious about how a 2.2 turning 27" tires would do going from 3.90 final to 4.11 final, or even 4.44 final? would it have the power and torque to turn the gears effectively and use gearing to compensate for an upsize tire change? Its a question of lower output 2.2's ability to run the 2.5's gearset. I appologize if people feel this is a diversionary post, but this thread got me thinking of that question. thanks
  6. Sorry for the diversion in this thread... There are a few write-ups on 5MT swaps around. With the auto you'll be able to wheel steeper and a bit harder than a manual, but with 200+K, a lower mileage tranny wouldn't be a bad thing. I prefer stick, BUT am limited by its taller gearing, which an auto's torque converter overrides... cheers!
  7. 28's on oB struts and minimal massaging! Nice squeeze!! Look at post #40 and you'll see we're twinsies Nice work on your sedan! Are you running 5MT or auto? This is my second set of 27x8.5 14's (BFGs first set and general grabbers this newest set).. I know folks sometimes find a mu terrain 27 14"... But i ze... think the cooper ssts are no longer made in that size anyway, I just wanted to chime in and give props on your lift, and props on the project for doing the additional 3" lift too!
  8. +2, and my other questions from a while ago too !! Ooh and will we be seeing you at the rally cross this weekend? It's gunna be mad fun!! later dude!
  9. mudrat in Eugen, OR This one wouldn't fit the first gen legacy, but he'd build you one that would!! http://www.oregonoffroadsubaruclub.org/mudrat_index.html
  10. MORE UPDATES I've got a thread on subaruoutback that gives a bit more info http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/85-all-other-subaru-models/21168-taller-forester-springs-outback-springs.html and here for more: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/81-wheels-tires-brakes-suspension/17450-using-forest-springs-struts-shocks-lift-1st-gen-outbacks-11.html
  11. Do you still have your cats? Do you have a big cone filter? Is the resonator removed from the fender? Or just the stock box and exhaust?
  12. It's a decent tire. I ran these 2 sets of tires ago in 27x8.5 14 I only got about 30K miles on them though LT tread but still a car tire, so a bit lighter than the BFG comparison. Good grip, nice tread and lighter than BFG but low mileage.. Went through a set of these and got 44K miles on the BFGs Now I'm in these now General Grabber AT2 in 27x8.5 14. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Grabber+AT+2 I like these better then the BFGs of same size. Deeper wider-spaced lugs and way better snow/mud shedding. Waranty calls them a 60K mile tire, except LT and flotation tires. So I'm not sure what that means. That's my experience, for what it's worth. -mw-
  13. 1995 legacy L 99 OB struts (KYB GR2) 99 FOR springs in rear 94 SVX springs in front 27x8.5 14" General Grabber AT2
  14. HAH, looks familiarly exactly like mine, even down to the strut top dust covers!! And some rubber grommets in the holes in those metal brackets hold the cover on nice and tight... Will get pix of the grommets for you...
  15. this thread has diverted from it's original topic, the safariwagon.
  16. Good to see an update G! I've been curious. Is that running the 2.2? What are your all-in-all overall impressions of the 2.2 pushing the dual range? I'm reconsidering the D/R swap....again. I bet the off road capability leaves no comparison with the ol 2.2 and AWD.. Fuel economy running FWD vs. AWD?? Or did yhou not drive it enought before the tranny swap? I'm curious about lots overall. Thanks for the update and the new sweetness up front looks naahss! catch you later dude! (maybe the rally on Feb 19?)
  17. Good times! Except for melting clutches... I feel your pain there
  18. Perfect! That's exactly what I wanted to know about FOR coils in OB struts... Thanks Tom! (picture maybe?? ) And nice work on a 37 page thread dude!!
  19. Hmm, i guess I need to spend quality TIME whenever I get into doing speakers... My other thought is a pair of 3-way 6x9 in the rear deck of my sedan... That'll take some zzz action but would be worth it in the end... Good advice, thanks!
  20. TheLoyale, Can you do me a favor and measure your rig from center of the hub to top of the fender? You're running 1st gen forester springs in your OB struts right? I think that's what you/we decided for your build, right? This measure is from the ground and will be different than yours, but it kind of illustrates where ion the fender line I'm looking for a measurement. This setup gives me 17 from hub center to fender flare. I think your FOR spring may afford a bit more height. (this is 2nd gen OB springs in 1st gen OB struts, sitting on 27" generals) I'm in the middle of some front spring options and want to get a little more info before I do the FOR spring swap in front... thanks dude! -mark-

Photos from the event. These are the first course M4 and M2 classes. Check out the tough truck!! He got second overall! http://forums.utahscca.com/showthread.php?t=8076
  22. Did you keep the plastic surround or bolt straight to the sheet metal? I tried a speaker swap in my old IMP but the speaker was too deep and the window hit, and with the plastic surround, the magnet was to wide Maybe Legacy speakers are different? i would like better speakers in my leggo as well. thanks! -mw-
  23. Yeah, doing some research... I sure hope its plug-n-play... I'm running into NOT plug-n-play with a spring project :-\ Do you [or anyone] know anything about clutch rebuild kits for the R160 clutch LSDs?
