  1. Yeah.. besides.. anything from anywhere near Ft Wayne is automatically suspect:lol:
  2. no.... And no way to tell you how different it would be because you didn't tell us what car/year.. stuff like that
  3. Send her over this way.. I'll giver her $30 to show my 2 year old daughter how to build a motor
  4. RX with an auto? I thought part of the deal with he RX.. especially 87+ was FT4WD D/R with difflock
  5. If it makes you feel any better, my wagon (same motor as your RX) idles around 2000 RPM in the morning for the first few minutes.. its normal If you need help, bring it on over here.. its only about an 11 hour drive from your place to mine;)
  6. The wiring plugs for the intake might be a little different..that can be easily remedied by using your original intake manifol when you swap motors.. other than that, you should be good to go
  7. Eric.. the 390s are 15ish.. a touch over 15 actually
  8. James.. My guess would be that the leak is from around the oil pump.. I also have the stains on the hood from that.. it only takes a little oil.. and it gets sucked up and flung around by the fan.. not too big of a deal to remedy.. if you're handy and have a manual for the car, I am told that the front of the motor can be resealed in a day.. or a weekend if you are a little slower.I think Edrach said his kid did it in 8 hours his first time. The high idle when its cold is normal.. its supposed to do that.. however it should idle a little lower when warmed up.. could be just a small adjustment needed.. the idle adjustment screw is on the back of the throttle body... don't mistake it for the fast idle adjustment screw thats back there..that only affects idle when the AC is on.
  9. I always have better luck doing the hub end first.. and using the axle nut and a couple of long screwdrivers to pry it through.. The tranny end is real easy to do at that point... I would probably avoid beating on the hub.. but thats just me. For those that are following this and have never done an axle swap before, you can see that there are many differing opinions and methods for R&R on an axle.. I recommend you try them all and see which one works for you.
  10. The smoke from the front is probably just a leaky cam seal, crank seal, oil pump or all of the above.. it happens.. I have seen very few EA82Ts that didn't leak up front..Mine does it too and I just haven't had time to deal with it.
  11. Check to make sure your lugnuts and axle nut are tight.
  12. good luck with the volvo IC.. I thought you were going tfor the stock look.. theres no way to hide that thing .. its a big mutha
  13. All of the 4 speed autos are electronic. Big hassle as stated above.. theres another computer an wiring harness to install.. However, you could install a 3AT.. it will pretty much bolt right up.. only real issues you would have to deal with are wiring up reverse lights and such like that.. Unfortunately the 3AT is not the best or longest lasting tranny in the world. additionally, you will see a substantial decrease in gas mileage. You could use a tranny from any year XT.. 85 and up GL/DL/GL-10/Loyale.. you could very possible use an older 2wd 3AT, but since I don't mess with the EA81 soobs much, I couldn't tell you for sure. XT^ trans would be out because as far as I know ther are all 4EAT.. I could be wrong there too, but I doubt it. I have to admit, i don't know of anyone that has sone the manual to auto swap.. But many of us (myself included) have done the auto to manual swap.. same process, just backwards Good luck
  14. Show us some pics of this cold air intake (in another thread maybe so as to not hijack this one..)
  15. Make sure you post your time slips.. I want to see what that things got now! Wish I was up there.. I would go
  16. I have used the BFH method a number of times.. never any damage.. just requires some care.. its also a good thing to put a chunck of wood over the end of the axles so the threads don't get damaged.. having that tool to get the axle back in can be really handy (BTW.. thx Qman for letting me borrow that that one time).. However, using the castle nut and a couple of large flat screwdrivers can make short work of reinstalling an axle if you don't have access to the special tool... Have removed/reinstalled 2 axles in the past 2 weeks with the above methods
