New to this board
Welcome to the board. Looks Like you live in the middle of subaru heaven. There are lots of people on the board around where you live, so replacement parts shouldn't be too hard to come by. Sorry I couldn't help with your problem.. All my soobs have been Fuel Injected. Just wanted to say welcome.

Meet the Imposter
What would you need a bicycle for? if you want to go slow, just hop into one of your 360s! J/K:D

Simple Safety!
How about this.. I have recently started wearing a watch again.. with a metal band. While reaching down to unplug my distributor, my watchband brushed the main terminal on the back of the alt.. at the same time, it also brushed the bracket.. that thing got hot QUICK! Needless to say my nice new watch has a couple of arc welded battle scars on it now.. a couple of the links were even stuck together.. total contact time was less than 1/4 of a second.. Watch comes off before working on car now:D

Meet the Imposter
I does look good.. Yet another soob that has at least a few small pieces of one of my dead soobs.. kinda makes me wonder how many of our cars are at least partially related:burnout:

EA82 SPFI doesn't have any @$$...
Coolant temp sensor maybe(likely).. could also be a vacuum leak.. intake keaks are notorius for not manifesting themselves until the engine is warm also, you said the EGR system is not hooked up.. my car doesn't work quite right when the EGR isn't hooked up.. so this could be part of the problem, as it would be active when the engine reaches operation temp, but not whn cold.

what is up with my turbo?
I had similar warm start problems and intermittent "cutting out" when my ingnition module in the disty went kaput.. I swapped the disty out and all problems have gone away

Computers 87 GL 10
Too true steve. I did get a perfectly good car because of crappy harness connections.. if by chance they are gross and corroded, cleaning them up and repacaking them with some di-electric grease can do wonders.

Computers 87 GL 10
There's only one control computer on your car and it is under the dash. IMO, your trouble is more likely related to an alternator problem.. these cars do some weird things when the alts go bad.. and they do quite often

gear ratios??
If you are speaking of gearing for each individual gear then you are correct.. but for final drive ratio and rear diff ratio, Qman is correct. normal 5spd DR(read non RX) is 3.90, as is the 4spd DR

this will make you laugh
About 90..

EA82Turbo "flat spot" or what??
Mine did this for the a while when I first got it going .. turned out to be a broken wire on the AAV.. its that thing mounted on top of the thermostat housing.

flywheel lightening at home
Hey.. my 88 FSM says the same thing.. Go figure.. Good advice too.. makes for a much smoother clutch and a smoother running motor
-
Check Engine Light
The error light comes on when the solenoid errors out.. not the valve itself. when the problem is corrected, the light will go off. Anti backfire solenoid? never seen one on an SPFI(or MPFI) car.. nor does my FSM show any such thing.. Did I miss something?

Putting an A/T in neutral while stopped?
I would tend to think the advantages would be minimal unless stopped for a really long time.. Remember the auto tranny is designed to sit at a stoplight while still in gear
-
Check Engine Light
Autozone only checks 96 and newer OBDII systems.. I have a link that explains checking soob error codes, but its saved on my other computer.. will dig it up for you later Ok.. here it is soob codes

flywheel lightening at home
Balanced with the crank?.. my engine is out of an auto car.. with a flywheel from another car and a tranny from yet another.. no balance problems that I can tell.... I say go for it

Alternator Revisted---Found! Chevy 105 amp alternative
The lack of easily available 100+ amp alternator was the reason I sold my stereo system and haven't installed a decent light set up.. I guess I got spoiled by the factory 115amp alt in my saab.. for daily use, 65 is fine.. but when each amplifier is pulling up to 40 amps, and there are 2 of them.. 65 just don't cut it. Anyway.. thats the reasoning behind the interest for at least a few of us.. lights and sound

Bypassing Overboost Controller?
There was a guy.. board name DinoSmash2000, that made little electronic bypass boxes for just that purpose... Yo dino.. you here under a new name ?

Loyale Airbox Mod
My favorite part about the airbox mode/cone filter approach is the "breathing" sound of the turbo between shifts..
-
Loyale Airbox Mod
Thats how I read it as well.. if thats the case, I would recommend getting a new airbox from the yard and starting over. I will see if I can get a pic of how mine was cut out.. basically, the whole bottom of the box is gone.. with only enough left to clip the top part on. Some very nice person on the board did a fabulous job of cutting it out for me.

So, how do YOU install a transmission?
Last time I did it, the engine was out, so I ust hooked the tranny up to a cherry picker and slid ot in theough the engine bay.. had someone control the cherry picker while I bolted up the crossmember.. took about 15 minutes to get the tranny mounted in the car that way

Wonder how I'm gonna do it
What year is it? Is it FT4wd? I may be interested in a few parts

how can i tell if spfi or mpfi
All the SPfIs that I have seen simply say "Subaru FI".. or EFI.. can't remember.. never seen one that actually says "SPFI" on it
