There is a server with all my crap under my desk. I use it as a footrest when kicked back in my office. Multi purpose computing EDIT: Just realized you were confused about why the pic wasn't displaying. I didn't post it. Didn't want to cause problems.- 420 replies

What to do with wrecked 84 gl sw
calebz replied to smelly_cat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
As a whole, it really isn't worth anything unless someone had a specific need. As parts, its worth a few hundred bucks.. But its a bit of work tearing it down. I would personally build a rhino buggy out of it. -
Getting to the clutch trans removal question.
calebz replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
+1 This is about the only decent way of doing a soob tranny at home without a trans jack. After doing it a few times I am still a little fuzzy on something though. Am I supposed to smoke the car out or myself? I have tried it both ways and the car never seemed to be too affected either way -

Patrick.. my memory kind of sucks sometimes. Is the motor on your wagon hosed? I have a couple of spares. By the time you get home, I will probably be done with EA82s. -
OP - you're new here, so I'll be gentle. The search function works reasonably well. For example, I searched the word 'lower' in the Old school forum.. An ambiguous search at best. However, right on the first page, it yielded some quite handy results http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31804&highlight=lower This same search process will apply for your turbo questions as well.. I strongly suggest taking some time (without actually posting) and familiarizing yourself with the layout of the site. This will give you a bit of insight into the community in the process. One other suggestion that may save you some trouble in the future. You appear to be an english speaking person with a penchant for internet laziness (wut). As we are something of an international community, many of our members do not speak lazy american, however their English is quite good. It does seem a shame that many of our members from Honduras, Slovakia, Israel and other far reaches of the globe that speak English as a second or third language have a far superior grasp of the English language when compared to many of us for whom it is the only language. There is a ton of information here for those with the wherewithal to look for it. There are friends to be made as well.. especially if you are in one of the subaru-rich areas. Most importantly, Take everything GD says about the EA82T with a grain of salt. I firmly believe an EA82T killed his parents or something.

EJ20 IS a wrx swap (unless JDM) I am confused

Difference between ea82T and ea82 Carb longblock?
calebz replied to McDave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its pretty much a straight short block swap.. The carb motor even has the mounting hole for the knock sensor. The biggest thing you will have to adjust for, is with the raised static CR, you will need to use decent gas.. no more 85/87 octane. -
Difference between ea82T and ea82 Carb longblock?
calebz replied to McDave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I guess I'll just have to rely on my own experience over your... ummm... 'facts' . About the only thing on that list that is even remotely a NEED, is an intercooler. Stock turbo, stock boost, that setup will run all day long. the need for extra monitoring equipment is not drastically increased simply by the change in static compression ratio. It would be just as nice to have it all on the stock setup. But again, its not like I have done it before or anything We all know you are enamored with EJ22. That doesn't mean that every time someone asks a question about an EA82 that you need to swoop down and opine loudly while giving the illusion that it is a statement of fact. We get it, you think the EA82 sucks. -

calebz replied to McDave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Watch it Rick, you are heading into the whole 'opinion as fact' thing The carb block works great with the EA82T IMO its not just a straight swap, but it isn't too hard.. But what do I know, I only have one. Any interest in passing on the info for the for sale RX? I have a line on an EJ20G that may need a home. -
short shifter-DONE!!..Picture added!!
calebz replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know the top section of the EA82 shifter is soft. When I put my stainless shift knob on, I noticed that the threads only went partway down the 'threaded' part of the rod. I used a lugnut to cut the rest of the threads into the metal. It dropped my knob down a little over an inch.. Just about perfect. -
New wheels on my RX as well
calebz replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I went from 13s to 14s to 16s.. About that only thing that changed was a drastic improvement in handling. Wheel size isn't really the telling number, it is the overall outer diameter of the tire that makes the difference. For example, the outer diameter of my 14s is almost exactly the same as my 16s... because of the difference in tire size -
Anyone installed an EA82 sunroof?
calebz replied to Andy FitzGibbon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Tim put them in his hatch it seemed to hold up ok. It involved a russian guy and a lot of welding IIRC -
Source for 2-row radiators
calebz replied to Andy FitzGibbon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I bought an all metal two row from there (radiator.com). It was $145 with overnight shipping from the warehouse in houston. Don't order via the website. Call and confirm the specs before ordering. -
Perhaps the throttle return is slightly off kilter. Allowing the throttle to go all the way closed too quickly when you let off the gas.

Tex beat him to it I think. Didn't he try out some 18s or 19s a couple years ago? -
The sway bars won't make it lower, but otherwise, you are correct. I still have those XT front struts

Maybe a little timing advice...

Because I forgot about that other forum. :-p The main point was to get it out of the old gen subaru section. Moving .....again.
