Arghh - thats the second time just today I have seen something like this on the forums. Yet the only people saying this stuff are the people that haven't done it. Its just not true. Yes, there can be problems with high compression turbo motors, but honestly, the bottom end is really not one of them.

There are no less than 5 EJ swap threads on the first page alone. hint: The first thread on the page is an EJ how-to

I think its any of them made after 2002-2003 or so. I have an old one that keeps on truckin. I had one a couple years ago that was new at the time. Lasted 10 months.

Suspension Q's: Need some info
calebz replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its a total of about 3 minutes worth of grinding on each front strut. Quick and easy, its just a little tab that stops the collars from sliding on. -

Yes sir, sure is. And here's the front I used for test fitting. Its an XT6 strut from my pile of 5 lug stuff. Funny thing is, I got those springs for a WRX IIRC - and I am not sure they will be able to fit the wrx struts I have waiting to go on the car As it is, you have to grind a little bit if the strut to get them on the older type struts. Not sure, but I think I might have had those last time you were over. Considering changing them out in the next few months - year. -

I just grabbed the only set I have detached from the strut. These are 2WD XT front springs. They measured 11 1/2 x 5 5/8 You looking to do something like this? -
Here's a thread from a few years ago that has some good info in it. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16162&highlight=pcv%2A Searching for stuff like "PVC" can be made a little easier with the use of wildcards. For example, I found that thread by searching for 'pvc*'

88 and newer -
its not the coffin that makes it a big deal, its the weight of the stuff inside. I used to have some thule adapters for the stock rack. IIRC, they were actually made for my 2000 explorer. This was a long time ago back in 1999-2000. I gave up on using them when I could watch the roof flex just from having two fairly light bicycles mounted to the roof.

Nope - thats all I've seen every time I have walked through the garage for the past year. -
+1 I use the Thule rack. It has been through 4 subarus, 4 volvos and a few Saabs. It is as awesome as a roof rack can be.

5 lug on my wagon, with coilover/sleeve setup was less than $200

2 smart choices 1) Permatorques - put 'em on dry 2) OEM - put 'em on with Permatex copper spray. Anything else would be uncivilized.

Short of making your own, there really isn't anything out there. The stock mounting points do not allow for anything more heavy duty than the stock racks. There just isn't the support in the thin sheet metal on the roof to support much weight. Thats why everything is gutter mount.

Crapsicles. Forgot to mention last night. I have a bunch of crap in the garage to measure for you. I have: EA82 Wagon Front struts and springs ( I think ) 2WD XT front struts and springs 2002 LGT front struts 2004 WRX sedan front struts I might have a set of stock rears as well, not sure. I also have a set of WRX sedan rear struts, but they are pretty useless as far as an EA82 is concerned. Quick note: eBay coilovers are the exact right diameter for our rear strut perches. -

There is one of those at a dealership here that is completely STi'd out. I would have loved to buy that instead of the Acura (Not that I don't like my 270HP honda ), But my wife hates the forester. -
Not sure about uploading video to the gallery. But if it isn't too huge, I can host it for a while. Nice wagon. Has a familiar type of feel to it. Can't possibly imagine why:grin:

Suspension Q's: Need some info
calebz replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Spring lengths will be different dependant on not only body style (sedan, wagon, whatever), but on drive train. You want 4wd or 2wd wagon. To make it more confusing, the spring length on the older 4wd wagons with adjustable struts is altogether different than the other spring lengths from non-adjustable applications :-p I have a few different springs here. Hit me up on IM and we'll go over some numbers. As suspension mods are playing a big part of my new build, I am interested to see what you have in mind. I also want to bend your ear about a couple other things. -
Those look awesome! BTW - I must have missed it. Wha happened to the OBS?

EA82 Rear view mirror question:
calebz replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats more than I have spent on any single part on my wagon. Hell, thats more than I paid for the last three subarus I bought. Answer: No - never considered it. I have a car with one. Its neat, but not really worth that kinda scratch. -

Those drivers side numbers indicate a broken timing belt. But the fact that you are still getting spark is a little weird. The distributor is run from the t-belt on that side. The differential between the cylinders 1 and 3 seems a little suspect too (mostly the fact of seeing 150psi in an old subaru) Depending on how good you are with a wrench and where you are (determines rust and parts availability), I'm not sure I would pay $500 for it. -
XT Turbo...Used purchase..what to look for?
calebz replied to Setright's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
We have 1.8 turbos. A lot of people don't like them. If kept reasonably stock and well maintained, they are cool little motors. I have one, but it is making some funny noises. http://www.element-z.net/subaru/16gnr.mp3 Any advice? -
+1 Transmissions can be messy. Replacing the bad back half is the way to go. The only real concern is rust. But you are in eastern WA, so I would think that wouldn't be much of a problem.
