  1. What year and model?? The a/c compressor can be on when the HVAC system is on Defrost or Defrost/heat, as well as A/C
  2. Check out my site. It has the procedure on how to read the codes and what they are www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html
  3. Exhaust ports are the same. You'll run into more issues with the electronics. The first gen legacies are OBD1, your forester is ODB2. There are some possible solutions, but it's not a "plug & play" type thing.
  4. Is the check engine light on? Do you have any codes stored in the ECU?
  5. May want to post on http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/index.php They may know
  6. I changed the title which may help in getting responses. If you don't get any responses here, I'd suggest asking in the tire & wheels forum on nasioc http://forums.nasioc.com/forums
  7. Welcome. We've run across this numerous times with the coolant temp sensor, which is why I recommend it. It's a cheap part, and can save you a ton of headaches if it is the problem.
  8. Yeah....there's a connector that snaps onto a part of the sensor. You just push the connector part down, and pull/wiggle the connector off.
  9. The normal belts or the timing belt? You should be able to see the normal belts right in front of the engine. The timing belt, you can remove one of the end timing belt covers and take a look at it.
  10. The six speed manual tranny found currently in the sti's is the only US production subaru to disengage the rear drive when the handbrake is engaged.
  11. any of the online subaru dealerships should have a canister purge solenoid I've used www.subarugenuineparts.com with good luck.
  12. Not sure if this will be of any help, but it's worth a shot. http://www.randomsoup.com/subie/ Hopefully someone else will chime in
  13. How bad are they? You should be able to buy touch up paint at your subaru dealer. It probably won't be perfect, but it should be good for touch up.
  14. Trying to use an EJ20TT motor on any LHD car will prove to very difficult, and not worth the time and money. You're better off getting a single turbo setup. However, the EJ20TT motor should bolt up to any newer style EJ series transmission.
  15. You shouldn't have to put the engine at TDC, you just need to make sure the timing marks on the pullies are aligned to how they're supposed to be aligned when doing the timing belt. I haven't done a DOHC timing belt, but on the SOHC ej22's, you just align the marks on the cam pullies, and crank gear, and swap the belt.
  16. They should be interchangable. Changing the 95 over to a hydraulic clutch "shouldn't" be an issue. The clutch fork is different between cable & hydraulic. So you'll just need to take those parts from your 98 trans, and re-use them on the 95. Also, I believe the pivot ball for the clutch fork will need to be changed. There are two bosses in the transmission case. Look at both transmissions and verify the pivot is in the same spot, or if it's not, you'll need to move it. This may require you tapping the bosses. Only other thing to note would be speed sensors/speedo cable. I'm not sure if the 95 has a speed sensor, or uses a cable. I'm pretty sure it uses a speed sensor, so it shouldn't be an issue. Otherwise, you should be able to remove the cable and put in the speed sensor...
  17. Have you tried resetting the ECU, and seeing what codes come back on the 93? I'd agree with nipper about the coil pack on the 90.
  18. Do you have an automatic or manual transmission? For AT's the inhibitor switch is on the side of the transmission. For MT's, again it's on the side of the transmission. If the switch is bad and the ECU doesn't know whether the car is in neutral or not, it can have some effect on idle. It'll be more noticable on AT's.
  19. There may be a clear vinyl section on the lower portion of the paneling to reduce rock chips, but that's just a guess.
  20. The haynes & chiltons manuals are ok.....I don't know if one is better then the other. You can buy subaru manuals from online dealers, and sometimes ebay. You can also pay for a subscription and d/l some from subaru http://techinfo.subaru.com
