  1. Gotta be an axle. The speedo is driven off the differential gear. So if the speedo is working, that means the tranny is moving and working.
  2. steady blinking means no codes. Mine does what you describe occasionally with the idle. I chalk it up to the idle air control valve freakin out. It's not really a big deal...so I just live with it. Your other issue is regarding the tie rods. They are supposed to be able to pivot back and forth. As long as they don't have slop, they should be fine.
  3. the 90-94 legacies had dual port heads. The 2.5 headers will work, however you will need to have a shop work up a custom pipe to fit how the angle of the header dumps into the intermidiate pipe where the cats are. Ultimately, you'd probably have to replace the section where the cats are.
  4. I really doubt you'd be able to use a WRX MAF. Different MAF sensors have different levels of flow and a corresponding transfer function/lookup table in the ECU. Because of this, swapping MAF's isn't really something you can do.
  5. So is this the 6 disc changer that is separate from the head unit? I know the newer ones have the changer unit in the head unit. If it's a separate unit, I'd probably start by testing to see if it has power and all the stuff at the changer. However, without a wiring diagram, it might be a little difficult.
  6. Pull fuse 14 EGI/TCU for an hour. It's easier and doesn't screw with the radio settings. Some say you need to let the car warm up/idle for like 10-15 minutes or until warmed up. However I think you can probably do without. I didn't do it the last time I had my battery out.
  7. I'd burp the cooling system. there is a little burp screw that needs to be opened on the top passenger side of the radiator. If you don't do this, you can get very weird issues. I'd start there, and see what happens.
  8. Again....don't do the starter thing. There is an access panel on the bell housing. You can stick a pry bar or something down there and catch one of the openings on the back of the flex plate, which will keep the engine from turning over.   9. I'm not sure of the bolt thread & pitch size, but I'm sure you could call your local dealership and they could help you out.
  10. I think 99 was the last year for the 2.2 liter. The whole 2.5 headgasket thing is really a crap shoot. I've heard of some people having no problems, and others having tons..... I really haven't heard of too many issues with the 2001+ models. whether that's because they just don't have enough miles on them, or they fixed something. I don't know.
  11. Is the check engine light coming on? You may want to try pulling the codes and see if any codes are stored. Instructions on how to pull the codes are on my site. Have you done a routine tune-up recently: wires, plugs, pcv valve, air filter, fuel filter, etc? You may want to try that if you don't find any codes.

  13. what bulb type do you have? The 9004 bulbs have a color that you need to unscrew. The H4 bulbs, you remove the connector, and the protective rubber boot, and there's two metal clips....squeeze them together and move the clip out of the way, then remove the bulb.
  14. Do you have an owner's manual? If so, it should state what the tank's capacity is.
  15. What exactly do you mean by the low pressure valve? Do you mean the low pressure fitting?
  16. You can't really do the swap and expect no issues. It would probably work, however there are going to be issues, one the injectors are different size, and that will play havoc with how the car runs, but you could probably swap the intake manifold over and keep the injectors, etc. Personally, I'd look into troubleshooting a little bit before you write off the motor.

  18. Susie, You may want to post a separate thread in the marketplace if you plan on selling your legacy.
  19. You may want to check the codes and see if there is anything pointing to the O2 sensor. Also, you may want to find a pinout for the O2 sensor system, and check that the wires do actually go to the ECU, and you should check that there is a pin out on the ECU for those leads that does something.
  20. First, replace the spark plugs & wires, air filter, fuel filter, & pcv valve. You're basic tune-up stuff. You may want to check the codes before, just to make sure. It's not the cat converters, it will typically get worse as the car is driven, and won't allow you to rev real high due to back pressure in the exhaust. I'd start with a tune-up and check the codes.
