Possible to swap FWD auto trans into AWD Legacy?
Legacy777 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't believe there is any pin identifying whether the TCU is for AWD or FWD. So I sort of believe you'll need a different TCU. I do believe I still have my FWD TCU off my 90 Legacy if interested. You will also need to swap the trans mount as well. Again, I've got a brand new FWD auto trans mount I was going to put in, but never did, so if interested, I've got that too. Just let me know Also, if interested, here's TCU I-O http://main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/TCU_I-O_page1.jpg http://main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/TCU_I-O_page2.jpg

1996 Imp driver-side door holder
Legacy777 replied to 70SS454LS6's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou need to replace the door holder assembly. It's not hard to do, and isn't too expensive. I did this for both front doors on my legacy. They wouldn't hold the door open for anything.

Shifter Bushing Time!
Legacy777 replied to Olnick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThese bushings can be a real pain to install, especially the rear one. I had to remove the joint on my impreza, and pull the whole linkage out. However I replaced both the front & rear mount bushings, put a new joint in, and replaced the bushings at the pivot point for the arm and lever. It feels MUCH better. I'm going to be helping a friend replace the joint piece for her 96 legacy. The bushings are shot. From what I found, there's three different styles of joint setup. The old metal ones found on the first gen legacies, the one where the joint is half metal, and half bushing, and the newer one where it has bushings on both parts of the joint.

98 impreza fuse layout?
Legacy777 replied to paulr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDo you have the owner's manual? I can probably scan that page of the owner's manual if nobody else has anything. It'll be for the US based cars, and I don't know if there's any difference the overseas models & ours.

Are FWD Legacy parts useful for a rear disc conversion?
Legacy777 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHe did mention the calipers. Yes, only the calipers are useful for a rear disc conversion for AWD vehicles

Legacy777 replied to njdrsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThey should be roughly the same/similar. There are probably going to be some differences, but shouldn't be much.

pictures of speed cable
Legacy777 replied to stant093's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere are different cables between the model years. Some have an adapter in the middle, and others are just one long cable. However they should be swapable. I never swapped speedo cables when I did my 5spd conversion. So I'm running the cable meant for my 90 4eat on a 91 5spd transmission.

Is there a idle switch on my car?
The idle switch is incorporated into the TPS. Readjust the idle switch/TPS using these instructions. If you still have the code/issue, check the wiring and/or replace the TPS. If you replace the TPS, you need to adjust/calibrate the new one using these same instructions. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/TPS_testing3.jpg

92 legacy turbo tranny question
Legacy777 replied to junkyardgabe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, the 92-94 5mt's have a 4.111 final drive ratio.

Multiple CEL's! Oh Boy
What year & model car is it? Have you tried clearing the codes, and seeing what comes back?
-
Larger/ More Aggressive tires on '05 Outbacks?
Is that 1.4" taller the overall increase? If so, the increase by the strut would only be .7", and that's where the clearance issues would be. I guess you'll have to take a look and see.

92 legacy turbo tranny question
Legacy777 replied to junkyardgabe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 92-94 n/a 4eat transmissions have the same final drive ratio as the 91-94 turbo 4eat transmissions. So as long as you swap between those years, you should be fine.

Constant Velocity of Ocala ... quality control issue
Ken, I've purchased axles from them in the past, and had an issue with a dust cap coming loose and leaking grease out. They do have a lifetime warranty on their reman'd axles. However I do agree I think their QC has gone down.....and I probably will look elsewhere in the future.

92 legacy turbo tranny question
Legacy777 replied to junkyardgabe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, internally they are different. They are beefier. They have a few extra clutch packs to handle more power being put out by the turbo motor.

CEL and Code 24
Legacy777 replied to syncrosubie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPersonally, I think it's time to regroup, look at everything you've done, any change that may occur, etc. Right now, you're just throwing parts at it, and that's not the way to about things IMO. Try posting a summary of the problem again, and of all the stuff that you've done, and maybe having all the info in one post may shed some light on things that was overlooked.

Clutch questions cable vs hydro
Legacy777 replied to kingbobdole's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust to clarify what Dr. RX mentioned. There are two different type of clutch setups, pull and push. There are two different type of actuation systems, cable & hydraulic. All cable systems use a push style clutch, however not all hydraulic systems use a pull style clutch. So as Dr. RX mentioned, if you want to use a WRX clutch & flywheel, you would need to swap the transmission as well as the pedal assembly.

Parts cars at my local yard are getting crushed.. need anything?
Legacy777 replied to RdNkBrt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI really doubt they have coil on plug units. Nothing in any of the factory or parts books I have for the first gen legacy specifically call out a different coil arrangement for the RHD Legacies.
