  1. Use the wiring diagram, and try to check that all the wiring is good, and you don't have something tweaking out somewhere.
  2. You just pull the wiper blades away from the tip of the wiper arm. The little plastic piece is there to unclip it. It may be lodged in there. If you take them to the autoparts store, someone should be able to show you.
  3. You could try www.subarugenuineparts.com I don't know what their shipping policy is...but you can try them.
  4. Since I'm not overly familar with the new legacies, I don't really have a suggestion for you. If you don't get a response here, you can try www.legacygt.com/forums
  5. I don't believe you need a new plastic box....assuming that's what you meant.
  6. Huck, I'm looking to do the same thing for my 97 OBS. I've got everything but the vacuum lines & one of the actuator brackets. I should have them shortly. Everything you listed is pretty much all the cruise stuff....to my knowledge. I've attached the pdf that I got from someone else who got the full "add on" kit. It also has a wiring diagram, which may help. Let me know what you find out. I'll be likely doing this in a couple weeks. Josh 97 Impreza Cruise add-on.pdf
  7. If you don't want to do it yourself. Try and find a friend that could help you, or possibly see if there's another board member in your area that could help. Or, print out the info from Gary's site, take it to a mechanic, and tell them to fix it.
  8. Scooby Mods Good resource for modifications. It seems to refer more to 2003 plus and does cover older, but since these are giant lego sets on wheels, i found alot of information does apply to pre 2003. Thanks to Nipper for mentioning it. Updated link to Scooby Mods.
  9. I know some of you have already replied, but I'm going to move this to the old gen forum since the body style is the older gen cars.
  10. Yeah, scoobymods has a lot of good info. I'm going to add this to the sticky.
  11. Ok, my invoice just shows 250 bucks for labor. The total was $565.24. This was done at a shop by a friend of my buddy. So I'm not sure if I got any discount or not.....so like I said, the prices may vary. Have you tried calling a trans shop and ask them what the time is?
  12. I had my turbo legacy tranny gone through and the syncro's replace. I'd have to look back on the invoice to see the hours & parts. It should give you an idea...but shop time/labor amounts may vary.
  13. Take a hammer & tap the starter. If it starts, it's probably the starter solenoid contacts....and it was just a coincidence about the stereo. If it doesn't start, there's a likely chance you may have a short or a draw that is draining the battery.
  14. Yeah they probably should. Ride height may change a little.
  15. The gear is still there.....it's just whether the speedometer uses a cable to an electronic head in the speedometer, or an electrical pickup at the transmission.
  16. If the battery went completely dead, yes the ECU will have to relearn long term fuel trim, timing, etc.
  17. If the check engine light has come on at any point, it should store a code. Check the ECU for stored codes. The procedure can be found on my site along with the codes www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html Also, to get at the HVAC unit, you have to remove the black plastic surround trim. To get that out, you need to pull the vents, cruise/heater buttons, and the air susp. blank out to get at the screws behind them. You'll also need to loosen/remove the two bolts holding the steering column to the dash. That will lower the steering column enough so you can wiggle the black plastic piece out. Once that is out, you can get at the HVAC unit. The plugs are a little bit of a pain to get at, but once you get it out, you should be able to look at the solder joints for cracks. There's some pictures I posted in that thread on the bbs.
  18. The fans coming on is a normal "safety" feature if the ECU loses the speedo reading.
  19. Here they are incase the email didn't go through http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/1997_impreza_fuse_list1.jpg http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/1997_impreza_fuse_list2 .jpg
  20. I really don't believe the HVAC system on the legacies is vacuum actuated. I'm pretty sure they use stepper motors. More then likely the solder joints in the HVAC unit are cracked. You can take the unit apart and resolder them. Check out the HVAC sticky in the body & chassis forum on www.bbs.legacycentral.org
  21. I don't know why they list them for only those models, they should work just fine on the older models as well. The only thing I noticed on my 91 turbo legacy transmission is that with the plate/bracket that holds the bushing & front mount to the transmission, there was a little gap/clearance. I don't know if this was because of the bushing or the transmission. I just put a big washer there to take up the clearance.
  22. A friend of mine has an 05 outback wagon. I don't think she's had any real issues. I think the tire monitoring system did illuminate a light when the tire was low...but I believe it reset itself. Has the light only come on that one time, or is reoccuring more frequently?
  23. In addition, the base adapter piece has an internal shaft that can break. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/speedocablebase.jpg Get your speedo working, and the fans will work again.
