  1. Keep us updated, the steel seal might be better than the subaru coolant additive that dont work. Good luck
  2. iimc the interior also changed(dash board and door panels from Forester) dont remember about the seats
  3. Hi Gary Do you mind explain what sort of tweaking do I need if they are NOT interchangeable? I have done some reading/researching on this forum and Ive seen some people said they are interchangeable(just swap out the clutch fork, pivot pin and cable mounting braket) and others said some mods are needed:confused::confused: Thanks
  4. OK, I got more questions. 1) Do I need to use the donor car's(97 Legacy 2.5 GT) fly wheel? Or I can get away with just use the fly wheel on the project car(96 outback) to match with 97 legacy 2.5 GT trans? 2) Where can I get the align tool for the clutch? Is it expensive? Is it necessary? Thanks again
  5. I just got a 96 OBW with 5 speed manual trans. The trans already removed from the car, I guess for the same reason of noisy bearing. For me its easier just to locate a used 5 speed trans from junk yard and bolt it on. Good luck
  6. Thanks a lot, mellow, the 96 OBW is Cable Clutch. I found a 5 speed hydro clutch trans from a 97 GT Legacy at junk yard. 1) Is it a direct bolt on? 2) What parts other then the trans should I get while at the junk yard if in fact its direct bolt on? 3) Any other pictures will be nice to help the process? Thanks again I really appreciate it:banana:
  7. BTW, I brought the car and had it towed to my house. The 5 speed trany was removed and put in the trunk in pieces. The driveshaft was missing:eek: Basically I need a trany, cv and driveshaft. Will be heading the local pick and pull tomorrow:banana:
  8. I really want to plug and play, I thought if hydro cluth, some mods are necessary. The 96 OBW 2.2 manual is cable cluth. Any other advice???
  9. Looking at a 96 OBW with a bad manual transmission. From my research here on the forum, looks like all manual AWD transmissions from 90 to 94 legacy and 93 to 95 Impreza will fit in this car without sawp out the rear diff. (4.11 with cable cluth) Can someone confirm that? Any other suggestions? Thanks
  10. Do you by any chance to check to # of the 96 OBW 5 speed trany? I am looking at one with bad trany. BTW, I have seen a lot of 5 speed trany with 4th gear going out, are they reliable since they are cable activated and need adjustment??? Thanks Appreciated!
  11. Hi Dave A few questions 1)What do you mean by one year engine? Is it the engine/trany bolt pattern? 2)And #4 HG leak? Is it usually at #4 cylinder for the EJ25? Where is the #4? 3)What is the rod knock sounds like? Where is the best location to hear it? Thanks
  12. Thanks for the trick. Is the bleeder screw made out of plastic? Also is the bleeder screw on EJ25 engine(98 forester) as well? Thanks
  13. OK, thanks for all the suggestions! I will give it a go. Are they 100,000 miles plugs? I only use regular 87 gas for the legacy, will report back if any gas mileage or performance increases.
  14. I am about to do some tune up for MY 95 legacy. I usually replace the spark plugs with V power NGK, but I have an extra set of iridium spark plugs that no longer needed from my SVX( same spark plug size as 95 EJ22 ). I heared somewhere that V power burns the fuel air mixture better. but iridium last longer. Which one has better fuel mileage and performance? Any advice??? Thanks
  15. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I do remember it started to vibrate after I replaced the front axles. I might get the axles from MWE( if I can afford ) or from a late model phase ! forester@ the junk yard. Thanks again
  16. yes, it vibrates right the way when in gear, before I was even moving. The spark plugs are about 10,000 miles but I guess I will replace them(NGK) Wires look OK How do I check engine/trany mounts? I tried to move/rock the engine itself but it seems pretty stable in there. Thanks again
  17. MY 95 2.2 auto with 162,xxx miles. The engine runs well, no check engine light. If I let the engine idle in P or N, the car feels OK, but when I put it in gear(D or R or any other gear selection) with the brakes applied, I can feel the vibe thru the whole car. Any advice? Could be engine/trany mounts? Thanks
  18. I have hear this problem as well. I ran into a guy @JY by a 98 outback and we started to talk and he told me that the cross over pipe was bad( I couldnt recall if its rust or cracked) Helped him out got the cross over pipe. So I know its a possiblity that this cross over pipe could be the problem on EJ25.
  19. Is it possible to retrofit or maybe direct swap of the steering wheel on MY 95 legacy with the one from MY 97 legacy? The 97 legacy has a good leather covering. The style of the 95 is different than the 97, so I guess the airbag will be swaped as well. Any advice??? Thanks
  20. I got mine(torx set with all the size you can image) on sale for about $10 from Harbor Freight:) http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91310 But I guess now they lower the price to $5 Good luck
  21. Is this O ring btw oil cooler and the block made out of rubber? Or is it a copper crash o ring/washer like the oil drain plug washer? Any one have a part number? Thanks again
  22. 98 Forester with EJ 2.5 auto. It starts to leak oil at above the engine oil cooler when the engine is cold(when left it over night) The oil will drip down to oil filter and make a mess on the drive way but once engine is warm up and the leak will stop(at least I cant see oil dripping) First I thought its the oil filter that was bad, but I replaced the oil filter with the OEM and the leak is still there. Is there any gasket btw the block and the oil cooler? I remember when I change my oil, I have seen a big size of nut threaded on to secure the oil cooler where the oil filter seats below. Any suggestions? Thanks
  23. I did some search and couldnt find any info on this. I need a rear diff for MY 95 Legacy auto which is a 4.11. Found a MY 99 2.2 Legacy auto in a junk yard. I know subaru changed the 4EAT trany design in 98/99 with a spin on filter and some other changes. But Can the rear diff from a 99 2.2 legacy auto fits MY 95 legacy auto? And what about the front axles? Thanks
  24. I was once told by a guy who worked at a pick and pull junk yard that you can read whatever on the windshield. They usually use paint pen to write on the windshield. Like R means it Runs and if you see a bar code sticker on the body somewhere, that means its totaled by insurance company. Anyone wants to add anything?
