  1. Yes, it will lower temps. Since installing a WRX IC and hood scoop on my RX, temps have dropped dramatically. Which is always good on a EA82T.
  2. 99% of EA82T heads have cracks between the valves, so dont be surprised or panic. Its only catastrophic if the crack goes into the exhaust port where the water jacket is. Installing a IC is a good idea, but a oil cooler isnt mandatory. What is the average temp there? I imagine it does not get real hot, unless your close to the some of the thermal activity around there.
  3. A few of us down south were jonesing for mud/snow and seeing how Rieter was questionable, we decided to hit EC. I had to stay on the main roads because once I aired down a front axle started making sounds of eminent failure:-\
  4. Looks like we can still get to the main pit area. We will have to see what/where we can go when we get there I guess. I think theres still some stuff to do from there.
  5. May have a problem guys. Main road to Reiter is closed. http://www.nw-wheelers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34605 Theres a different way to get in, but I have no clue if we can make it or not. I'll keep a eye on that Forums thread to keep things updated.
  6. I'm finding that results depend on the tranny condition/mileage. Mt RX is running Scotty's fairly well for several thousand miles now. But I tried it in my XT6 and had not so great results. I tried some Pennzoil HypoyC and it was even worse. I swapped to a Amsoil 80-90w and everything is peachy now.
  7. Was that with me, or without?
  8. I should be making it to Zaps. If the 2 of you eastern boys dont make it to Rieters, the tranny can come back with me or Ken. And I may have my kids with me, so a tavern/pub/brewery isnt going to work for me.
  9. I drove to the Dragon and back last year in a 89 XT. Just a tad over 6000mi and by myself. Made a stop on SD to see Chef Tim and Wife, then headed south. The only problem I had was when I left, my air suspension didnt air up for 30mi. It would have been a looooong trip without that working :-\
  10. Alright, I'll jump in with a tentative appearance.
  11. I think that axle is a replacement (used) he got from somebody. The one on the bottom is the new one (wrong axle).
  12. How do you test drive it if the car isnt running? Does that mean you wont sell any drivetrain parts off it? Btw, the PAP in Tacoma sells trannies for $50.50 with a $9.50 core charge. You pull of course.
  13. The easiest/ghetto way is to take a pair of channel locks and pull of the chrome ring around the lock set. The whole unit will come out now and you will be able to unlock the steering as well. Otherwise, just get the number of the inside of the passenger door lock and get a new key made. I also suggest everyone that owns a EA82 car to have a fuel cutoff switch installed
  14. Buy mine. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86866&highlight=turbone http://s286.photobucket.com/albums/ll95/Turbone/My%20Lifted%20Hatch/ Its the camo one. I live in Bonney Lk.
  15. The car has a defunct digidash. A infra read temp sensor/reader would work tho
  16. Yes, its a EA82T. If you got the last one on your list, you will also need to swap axles. A non turbo 5spd D/R will bolt up and you can still use your current axles. The AT has 23 splines, the 5spd is 25 splines (turbo). Dont use a 4spd. Get the latest model 5spd D/R range with the lowest miles if possible. Also, if you get the non turbo 5spd, you will need to change the rear diff to match ratio's. The turbo tranny is 3.7, the non turbo is 3.9. Then you lose the LSD rear diff, if you have one. The tag on the cover will tell you if it is. Also, the turbo 5spd D/R will have a diff lock. If there is that many late 80's Subaru's in that yard, I would be checking the rear diff's on all the turbo's. The LSD rear diff is getting harder to find and so are the 5spd D/R turbo trannies. Also, the wagon you show in last frames is a Legacy and the tranny wont work with your car.
  17. That pic of the rear bumper is not a good sign. See how its melted around the exhaust tip? Bad juju there :-\ It means the engine was run hard till it got hot enough to melt plastic. My RX was like that when I bought it. When I pulled the engine it had a hole in the top of the block. Not saying you will find that on yours, but I can about guarantee the head gaskets are toast. Another thing, the temp gauges on the old digi dashes suck. Try and get a aftermarket gauge installed or use a infra red temp reader to keep a eye on the temps.
  18. After a re-read I see its a auto tranny. It will have two dipsticks for the tranny. The one in front is for the diff, the one behind it is for the ATF. Alot of times the seal that separates the diff from the tranny fails and fills the diff with ATF. Also, if this is a 3spd AT, its junk and should be pulled and sold for scrap. If it was flat towed, the tranny is shot, but I dont think it would effect the front diff.
  19. Sounds like the center diff is about to go out. Check the dipstick, it on the passenger side of the tranny. Kind of next to the turbo.
  20. What are you back from? Rehab? Plastic surgery? Trip around the world? Glad to see you back Spark.
