  1. Right. Big difference between 7.4:1 and 9.5:1 comp ratio. The reason mine is so low is because of the cheap MBC I installed. It went full boost more than once and I only had it on for a day and a half. The headgasket was bent in 2 places, so I can imagine what the rings look like now:rolleyes: So Marc, if this is what you want, keep using that MBC:-p
  2. You did read the sticky at the top of the page? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62289 And why would you put 13's on a chevy lug wheel?
  3. Turbone replied to mcbrat's topic in Off Road
No, because nobody runs a welded front diff(or a locked one). Luckily I blow the CV cups before the stub axle goes. Its a quicker fix;)
  4. Could be that the grounds are corroded. Go around and check/clean them.
  5. Heh, we'll make a body man out of you yet:headbang:
  6. I think you may need the trailing arms. They hold the races/bearings for the axle stubs. The manual isnt showing much on the 2wd arm, but shows detail on the 4wd.
  7. Gloyale has the right approach to this, pretty much what I learned in class. Be nice to have it on a rack tho. I had a 84 turbo wagon that was just like this. Concrete jersey barrier at 45mph. It fubared the battery tray and the crumple zone was compressed some. Lots of hammering while pressure is applied is the way to pull the metal back. You might need to use the angle iron piece for a new core support, but that would just make it better than original, eh?
  8. If you want your rear jacked up, find some rear adjustable shocks. Came on some GL-10/RX models.
  9. NGK plugs are OEM. 99% of the folks here will tell you to use NGK also. And no, a exhaust leak shouldnt effect the idle. A vacume leak will tho.
  10. Well, hopefully you wont have to order 2 sets. One 2wd and one 4wd:rolleyes:
  11. No, whats there should work. To make sure just check the brake shoes to each other. If they are the same length, your good to go. I've only done one rear brake job on a EA car, it was a EA81 and years ago. The EA82 might be a little different side to side. The one on the right side looks like it has a self adjuster on it and the left doesnt. Not sure if thay are all like that or not. I'll check my FSM and see what it shows. Quicky update*** The (86)FSM shows that you have a 2wd drum on the left side and a 4wd drum on the right. Now, for your year that might be standard, dont know for sure. But your left side is a manual adjust and the right side is a auto adjust. May not affect anything, but you will have to adjust your left brake when your done. On the back side theres a square peg. Turning this 1/4 to 1/2 will push the shoes out against the drum. Hope this helps.
  12. No, they should be the same. Looks like the left side might have been replaced, with the older style setup. On the shock removal. Uh uh. Not a piece of cake. The 2 top bolts are extremely hard to break loose and remove. At least this is what I've encountered in the dozen or so pairs I've removed. I use 2 6in extensions and a 1/2in drive ratchet or breaker bar. And it takes all my weight and muscle to break them loose. And I have adequate amounts of both:-p
  13. Just a suggestion here. But it might be a good idea to start another thread on this. This is supposed to be for Evans Crk. Not a PDX run;)
  14. The Leg seats were 1in narrower (rails) than the EA81. I dont know what the EA82's are. When you pull your old seat out, take a measurement.
  15. You will most likely have to swap the rails for it to fit. I put Legacy seats in my Brat and I swapped the rails (plus some other mods).
  16. The next major breakdown on my Hatch and I'm going to sell it and convert. After swapping the tranny and installing a new clutch, I dont think I could handle another big labor job like that. The job was double the work because of the subframe and divorced t-case:-\
  17. Not true. A turbo engine is low comp to begin with. My readings were 100 on 3 cylinders and 75 on one. It still has torque, when the turbo spools up.
  18. Lots of parts to deal with. Make sure you lay stuff out in the order you take it off, unless you have a good memory. Maybe even take a pic of it before disassembly. Do you have a manual, that might help.
  19. You may want to remove the fan(s). The one bolted to the rad is easy. 2 bolts on the top and maybe 2 on the bottom. Disconnect the plug and it comes right out. Now, if you have a clutch fan, its a little more diffucult. Theres 4 bolts holding it to the waterpump shaft. Its a tight squeeze getting a wrench in there to remove them, but with patience it can get done.
  20. How do you know the dash is bad? Just because the speedo doesnt work doesnt mean the dash is bad. Make sure the cable is attached at the tranny and at the back of the dash. I've seen mine come loose at the back of the panel before.
  21. Seeing how Ed was kind enough to give a PAP update for up north, I thought I would add mine for down south. Couple of Legs, 2 wagons and 2 sedans. A pristine 81 wagon, the seats are dirty but otherwise perfect. Really low mileage and the whole car is a beauty. Just lots of mold. A 82? hatch, looking like a turkey after T-Day now:rolleyes: About 4-5 EA82 wagons, 2 are turbo (rear discs). And the biggie, just came out of staging while I was there.... 87 RX, white of course. And missing the LSD rear end (see my for sale thread:-p ) I might go back to grab the drivers seat. It had some wear but otherwise unripped. The engine block is still in, but the rest of the engine is in the back. Still has the body kit. If you want/need parts, let me know. I'm going back today I think. The yahoos in the yard laughed when I asked them if they could put the car in a dry spot. Said it would be dry in a few weeks:rolleyes: I had to remove the diff while in a puddle, but got creative and used stuff laying around to build a platform and stayed somewhat dry. Found out the seatbelts are different between 87 and 89 also. Why couldnt Subaru be more consistant in the 80's?.
  22. Timing could be off some. Cat could be getting plugged.
  23. I know where theres at least 3 sets of EA82 rear trailing arms with sway bars. I might charge a little more for my labor.
  24. Wish I could have made it. But I did get closer to having my rig done:headbang: I seem to be missing a major component tho.........:-p
  25. I did try that with mine, but it had no effect. Looks like I will be getting a new engine from CCR soon cause a have a almost dead cylinder. Stupid ebay MBC:mad: Thats what I get, I guess:rolleyes: Good luck with it.
