Recap!! or, the Spark Plugs that Healed my Car!
Turbone replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It only took me a day to fix my similiar problem. After the crap my RX did to me yesterday, I went and bought new plugs today. I didnt even look at the old ones first. BUT, I did do a compression test while installing the new ones. #1 Cyl = 100 #2 cyl = 100 #3 cyl = 100 #4 cyl = 75 :-\ If the car didnt have a turbo, it would be very noticable. But its starting to loose oil and smoke a little. So I will be giving CCR a call tomorrow for a price on a short block. This car might be up for sale after that. Tired of dealing with old technology and the problems associated with the EA82T:rolleyes: Sorry for the H/J D:-p -
Its just something you have to accept when dealing with cars of this age. I just get a little tweeked when its when I have things I need to get done. Its ironic that the 85 wagon that I got passed emissions yesterday. Even with it overheating (and possible blown HG)

Cool pics:cool: We have drifts here too, but none that big or for that long.

Oh, I have the bike to ride also. When the weather co-operates:-p Cant make parts runs with that tho, but it does wonders for my attitude:cool:

Must have done it yesterday, rode my bike most of the day. Today I needed to go to a yard to check out a Brat and change the title of a free Soob I picked up last week. I just put new brakes on my Brat the day before and didnt do a test drive after the job was done:rolleyes: Got in it this morning and got out the driveway and the left brake was almost siezed up. I'm saying...well you know. I drove around the block and it didnt free up, so I parked it (smoking brake and all) and jumped in the RX. I got about 12mi from the house and was climbing a good size hill (South Center, Hwy512 for the locals) and I looked in my rearview and there was nothing but white smoke. All 3 lanes behind me:eek: Well, you know what I was saying again, just a repeat. I pulled off at the next exit and lifted the hood to see what was wrong, I tore a inner CV boot. Right in front of the DP. Well ok, grease should all be gone, problem solved (temporarily). Go in to proceed with my original plans and it decides to atart running on 3 cylinders. Well you know what I said, broken record by now. I figure I better limp it home, dont want to take a chance of screwing something else up. Get it home and now I have the free wagon sitting there, saying "take me, take me!". I know the history of the car, it was overheated at one time. But it survived and was driven around town for months without any problems. I get on the freeway and was just about to head up the same hill and I look at the gauges. The temp is about 7/8. Yeah, you know the routine by now:rolleyes: I barely make it up the hill and find a station to use some water, I'm hoping to cool it down. I got it down to normal temp, at idle. Jumped in and started back home. By now I'm not wanting to finish any plans I had for the day, go figure:-\ It takes me almost 2hrs to get the car home. I got close but it was really hot and no hot air was coming out of the heater. Which means it was dry. I stopped at a grocery store and bought 2gal of distilled water and attempted to get water in it. No go, it would just spit it back out. Gret, now I have a blown HG (might have before all this). I got enough water in it to make it the 3mi home and parked it. Wondering if I should still transfer the title for the wagon or call the junker:-\ I get to work on the Brat, check the calipers out, make sure everything is right and add some grease on the moving parts. I figure while I'm at it it, I might as well install the 2 new lower balljoints I have. Half hour later I'm done and everything is hunkydory on the Brat. I should have done it that way to begin with. Still dont know whats up with the RX, will look into that in the next few days. I also picked up a new clutch kit for my Hatch today, now that needs to be put back together. What a day. End of rant.

The best suggestion by far. The rest is common sense, hence my first post. You didnt say wether you were coming for the day or the weekend. Do you plan on staying at a motel or a tent? Or in your car? How about telling us what your bringing, then we'll tell you what your forgetting. Oh yeah, a big bag of BS, cause theres plenty of that to go around.

You, your car.......and some $

Ok, I'll bite. I'm sure Tupperware or Rubbermaid would have been a better choice:-p -
New PAP yard coming in August.

Thats good news (for the B'hamers) I'm not driving that far to look for parts:rolleyes: Thats more for you guys up north:-p The difference between the north and south PAP's is very distinct. The Lynnwood PAP is incredibly cluttered, its hard to walk thru the isle's without tripping over something(specially while looking for Soobs). At least down at the Tac PAP the ground is flat and your able to leap frog the puddles, haha. -
Just leave the timing belt on, then you can break the bolt loose on the puump gear.

Vacume tank, its supposed to hold a reserve for your heater controls, etc. -
Help! boost peaks, then drops
Turbone replied to Marck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think so. I assume yours is made from brass fittings? Mine was also. The brass is a soft metal and its not exactly a close tolerance unit. Even a little air getting by is going to affect what happens at the wastegate. I fiddled with mine for a couple of weeks to no avail. I tried making a very small hole in the hose after the mbc, but ended up with full boost (fun!) and a blown HG (not so fun). I wont use another brass or cheaply made mbc again. -
Have you thought of taking the seats out and measuring them yourself? It takes maybe 10min to remove a EA82 seat.
-
I've never had a problem taking these out. Just get a sharp utility knife and run it around the window between the glass and frame. It may take a few cuts in places, but when done the window should come right out.
-
Cant make that one.
-
I'll try and make it, but no guarantee's.

I'll bet its the MBC. I bought one like you made, off of Ebay and had the same situation. Either going to have to put out some money for a decent boost controller, or leave it off. Boost is addicting, so I know thats not going to happen:-p -

And where did you get that lovely piece of metal? -
I believe the ballast is only needed when you have a points type disty. I would double check your wiring connections, make sure you have it wired correctly. A little more info on the model and year would be helpfull also.

Spark plug recommendations

Ditto on NGK. -
Most times its the shaft itself thats broke. Remove it from the bottom and see if you can gently pull on it. I would say, if it comes out easily then it could be broke. Especially if its shorter than the sheath.
