What do you think is wrong with this car?
Without seeing this car in person and looking at the drivetrain and engine, I wouldnt give $100 for the car. The engine could be bad and/or the drivetrain could be toast. From his explaination its looks/sounds like both are having problems. Look and ask lots of questions before buying this one.

PAP updates; Lynnwood & Tacoma
Maybe it was one of those unbadged RX's. It did have the GL badge on the rear and no RX markings. Maybe they got the skirting off another car? Thats more likely.

Yes, the drivers side. If you tried it on the other side, the wrench should have flipped over and caused noise/dents/broken windows, etc.

PAP updates; Lynnwood & Tacoma
Tac PAP update. Its dried out a little bit, tires still needed as stepping stones in certain rows:rolleyes: But the biggie is.............. 3 EA82 3 doors! First time I ever seen 3 in the yard at the same time. 2 w/5spd D/R and one 2wd, no turbo's. One had the body kit but was missing a side skirt. There was a EA82T wagon there, still hade the turbo and rear discs, no LSD. One was burgandy, one was white and the other was rattlecan black with lime green wheels:rolleyes: I have to go back sometime soon to get a tail light, so if someone needs something, let me know.

Use a 1/2in drive ratchet and pipe, make sure the pipe is at least 2.5ft long. Then lay it against the right side, usually against the battery(EA82). Remove the coil wire and give the ignition a quick bump. This will break the nut loose.

Quick important question
You have the worst case scenario for a blown HG. I would have the heads decked a little too, I would bet they are a tad warped.

Just bought an 84 Turbo BRAT
The year turbo engine you have is the first model imported to the US. And probably the most difficult one to work on for a first time Subaru owner. There are several here that have owned this model/engine and some have extra parts or complete engines. One of the biggest issues is back in 84 the Dealers did a recall to upgrade the turbo to add watercooling. Look at the thermostat housing to see if there is a water line on the bottom right front that goes back to the turbo. This will tell you if its been upgraded or not. If not, its not that hard to upgrade the entire turbo system to a watercooled system. Also, the tranny they used (3AT) are known for being gutless and unreliable. Theres a upgrade for this also, but a little more involved. Use the search function here for 5spd swap. Welcome to the USC and the Board, hope you enjoy your Brat.

Suggested Spark Plugs, Oil and filters
Fram sucks big time. Almost all the cars I see in the PAP here that died from a engine problems have a Fram filter on them. I have see the cut aways on the filters and they are built very cheaply, even the double guard. For $6 you can get a Purolator.

It's Almost DONE!!! WOOHOO!!!!!
The only thing I can see wrong here is that you put the drum brakes back on:confused: Other than that, you should have a trouble free ride for lots of miles/years to come.
