I would check the emissions vac contol valve.I had this problem on my '02 Jetta.I know it isn't a sube but it may help point you in the right direction.

Jon if you are interested in getting a little more power from the ea71...I know of a guy who has a dual carb setup for the ea71.Let me know if you need one. Also what makes the FE motor have more compression?Is it the domes in the heads or the pistons?

I have been thinking of doing power mirror conversion as well.Main reason is for my wife cause she is short and I am tall.That way it would be easier for her to drive the hatch without dealing with the mirrors too much. Let me know if you get this done before I do.I am planning on looking into a donor sube with power mirrors in the next month.

Ya the msd blaster 2 is a good coil and I have had good luck with it on the hatch I used to own as well as the one I own now.My brother installed one on his 85 wagon that he used to own and it helped quite a bit as well.It is just as simple as un hooking your old one and installing the new one in the reverse order.

Jeff I may be going by PNS today and I will let you know if there is a good 6 there.I think we may need to make a weekend out of it cause I need some hatch parts too.

Another easy way to tell if it is or not is: On the older non hydro engines the heads have 2 extra bolts that hold the head onto the block.It is on the bottom down by the exhaust port.I believe they are 10mm.That is one way I found if you are unsure if it is hydro or not.

I don't know if you recall seeing McBrat's ea81 with the 600cfm holley on top,but that is what fuel demand you would problly need for something like that.I was just poking that idea out there thats all.Problly never end up doing something like that was just a fun idea.

I had this idea when I was looking at some ea81t heads.I looked at the holes where the injectors mound and thought what about putting some Nitrous injectors in their place on a N/A motor?What do you guys and gals think?Nitrous injectors on a N/A ea81 using the ea81t heads?I guess maybe a 10 shot or 20 shot would be fun.Just thought I would throw this idea out there and see what you all thought of that. Let the insanity begin!

I bought one not too long ago.I searched and searched for quite some time.They are really hard to get.It is now my baby!I asked a bunch of people about them.And called numerous salvage yards and suby specific yards around the US.Good luck finding one. I am sure you will find one but you must be patient.

If I remember right the passenger fender was good but the hood had a couple dents.

There is a new to the yard '84 turbo wagon located at Pull N Save.It is silver.The odometer said 150k.Also there is that other white turbo wagon at Sidewinder that I think BlownBimmer mentioned before.Anyway pm me if someone needs me to pull parts.Engines on both cars are complete.

The reasons I like the old gen stuff: I like the durability,simplicity,the way they look,I like that they are different,easy to get stuff for,but not something you see every day.I also like that the ea81 is really strong and easy to get parts for.I really can go on and on but you get the point.
