January 19, 200422 yr found for sale... 85 brat with automatic and pushbutton 4wd. Brat also did not have t-tops... What gives? why no t-tops and I thought 83 was the only year for the slushbox. Is this thing a rare piece or is it just a piece of .... It has 87k on it and it has some rust....it is a former WI vehicle too! talk to me.... Matt
January 19, 200422 yr What kind of money? It is not as common but I believe it is right. I remember someone(Mick maybe) brought this combination to light. 87K makes it a good find. I remember someone was looking for an auto Brat a while back. So if you find you do not like it there will probably be a buyer if you wish to sell.
January 19, 200422 yr Nope - not rare. I've seen a number of auto Brats. After 84, the Automatic GL Brat did not come with the T-tops - but it IS still a GL. Frankly - it's not worth as much as a manual, with the T-tops. But if you want an auto..... Depends on what they want for it, and condition. BTW - the EA81 Auto's were crap transmissions - figure on replacing it at some point, or swapping it over to a manual. incidentally - this is probably why you don't see as many of these - they were either crushed for a bad tranny, or converted to manuals. January 19, 200422 yr Author They want $1300 for it....in my opinion that is a bit on the higher side....but it does have a fairly fresh PA inspection sticker and that means something atleast. I think there is a bit too much rust to believe that the sticker guy must have been a friend... I really want a brat but seriously the hard top idea is really killing it for me....if it was a t-top I would worry about the trans. later. Sigh...anyone local interested LMK. If you aren't local don't waste your time....it isn't THAT great. Matt
January 19, 200422 yr That's way over the top for this coast - but not incoceivable for your side of the world maybe. Still sounds like a lot. I agree - no t-tops would kill the deal for me. I sure wouldn't own one without em. GD
January 20, 200422 yr It's like GD says:location is everything. In AK, any 4wd is worth at least $1500 if it runs decent. If the rust isn't too bad dicker with the person and get it down to around a grand. With mileage that low, it's a decent deal.
January 20, 200422 yr It all comes down to rust. I would pay 4gs for a BRAT with no rust and a clean body that had no drivetrain. I wouldn't pay $400 for one running like a top with terminal cancer.
January 20, 200422 yr I paid $1000. for my 84 Turbo Brat. Its got some cancer in one rear fender lip and a little (for this area) in the rockers. It also has twice the miles as yours and faded paint.

January 20, 200422 yr Aint worth much in these parts. No tops, Auto, rust....6-700 tops. The miles help slightly but overall, it doesn't mean jack with that bare bones setup. I am from PA and am now living in NJ (and have traveled around a bit with the military) and I keep up on the prices. The guy's smoking crack if he wants that much.
January 20, 200422 yr Paid $700.00 for the Wife's '84. No T-tops, Auto. Has some rust, but that's the norm around these parts. BRAT's are kinda hard to find around here, also.
January 20, 200422 yr Author While I was looking at it a guy pulled up in a Mitsu. eclips and he was looking at it too.....he said he was looking for a winter ride (no crap? really!!!) so maybe he can buy it....I think he might need it more than me anyhow As for Florida... never really thought of that...hmmm the only thing about that is there is this nice Merkur and ..... oh no here we go again. January 20, 200422 yr Hell, I have an 82 with t-tops auto(bad) you can have for 6 beans. Has some rust issues though.
January 21, 200422 yr this is the one I posted about in another message. It's a looker I'll give it that. Brattysvx and I looked at it last night. This thing definately has rust issues and he's definately on some amish crack if the thinks that he's gonna get $1300 for it. Then again, that's just my opinion. The trans did also seem to be slipping. He'd have to come WAY down on the price for me to consider it....and he didn't really seem to want to do that as he put a $400 fuel tank in it..........I'll stick with my Leg turbo and just buy an old s 10 (gasp) or something......
