I am looking for some engine builder advice. I have a EJ205 that came out of a 05 WRX with 144k miles. The engine was still running strongand still making boost but was very dirty on the outside and i did not know the history so I decided to pull the engine and break it down. The engine came apart pretty easy, no broken or rusty bolts. No visual signs of damage. At this point I will measure everything as specified in the FSM and figure out what machine work will need to be done. I want to ask though about bearing clearances. I have not done a turbo engine before. All my experience is just stock N/A power and building back to stock specs. I would like to …

This is just in the "thinking stage" as the idea is popping my head, but I was wondering about the feasibility? Not talking a turbo swap from a turbo'd car, but rather swapping a turbo in and maybe mixing parts to get it to work. I have a spare GT2554 sitting around (needs exhaust housing so can always swap on a Subaru style to use a factory manifold) that would be more than enough even if it only saw a max of 10 psi (even 5-8 on the smaller turbo might be enough to avoid piston swap) which I think would be OK with the compression ratio of the engine so long as 91-93 octane is used. I have some extra turbo stuff from the Saab so that'd be a start. Some answers are in the …

Hi guys, Upon deciding the stage 2 wasn't enough, I have decided to look at getting a bigger turbo and the supporting mods to go with it. Research hasn't lead me anywhere productive and I have run into the problem of knowing if a turbo will bolt on or fitment treatment is required. I originally leaned towards a blouch td05-18g but later found out it wont fit. Is there a list of turbos I can find anywhere that have power ratings and are known to fit this model forester? Thanks!

Anyone know the size of the snap ring for the HKS SSQV BOV? Installing on on a WRX and the snap ring bent out of dimension and won't fit.. Might have to go to HKS to get their $30 kit, but would rather spend $10 at Fastenal as much as I hate that place..

I am curious if a wrx engine will bolt into my 1998 Impreza with a non turbo 2.2 in it now this engine is sounding pretty rough and before it completely dies i'm doing some research so if it can be swapped without doing heavy mods to frame or engine please let me know what all needs to change. i'm assuming wiring will have to change (do they make wiring harnesses that will convert it?) and i'm hoping the engine mounts are the same.

GD mentions hacking the EJ22T ECU here and I figured I'd start a new thread. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1122169 So GD, first thing, does the ECU have pads for an EPROM socket? Maybe take a pic of the ECU board, high res so I can read the part numbers from the CPU. You'll need one of the FTDI Select Monitor cables with the SSM connector (same as the stereo): http://www.4bc.org/vanagon/engine.html You might need this level converter (because of the "92 syndrome"), but I just hardwired the stereo connector to the FTDI cable and it works. http://ecutune.com/ECUtuner.htm And then get JECScan software here: http://www.alcyone.org.u…

I am starting work on my legacy again after three years now that my outback is running again. i know many of you guys have either built or had something to do with the building of a franken motor and i get the basic plan for the motor but i kinda want more. I was thinking the standard layout but possibly doing a 30 over bore with forged pistons, maybe deck the heads some, do a port and polish job, bigger cams ( thoughts on what type of cam would be greatly appreciated), and maybe an access port to do some custom engine mapping. Again not sure how well this set up will work with my plans for the car its self but i will defiantly be needing more power and i dont want to do …

I want to turbo my 2005 Subaru Legacy 3.0r. I just want to know if it is worth it and wether it is possible. I was hoping that i might be able to use an sti set up and work off that. I only want to put out about 10-12 Psi and hoping that it will increase the performance quite a bit. I would also like to know roughly how much it might cost to manufacture some of the custom parts and what might be needed to do this conversion.

I've got over 166K miles on my mostly-original 2004 WRX. I love the combination of midrange/topend power and fuel economy of my stock set-up, but have always been disappointed by the lack of off-boost torque. Since I'm going to need to replace the clutch within the next couple of years, I was wondering about which would be the best combination of parts to give me that putting-around-town tractor-like grunt that I desire. At first I was thinking about stroking my EJ205 with a stock-stroke EJ257 crank and rods, using Mahle pistons to give me a "2.2" liter stroker engine. I hear it's really popular and cost-effective, but after finding out that it only gives slightly mor…

I have a 2017 Forester XT 2.0 Turbo which developed an engine noise that at first I thought was ignition knocking, because the onset of noise was during summer and it had not occurred earlier in the year. The noise manifested itself only at full throttle and high rpm -- which made me very alarmed. Despite chats with at least 3 Subaru dealer service advisors, no one came up with a better suggestion than "don't use Costco fuel". In August, I myself was underneath the car and noticed the attached photo appearance which immediately suggested to me a possible exhaust leak. I now found the service advisors at least agreed I should bring my car in. The surprise ending…

Working with a bone stock 2004 WRX. I put a cheap N1 clone cat back on it and that's all that's done to it.. We want to eventually get into modding this car pretty heavy but street able and reliable. 250 AWHP is all she really needs. which is low by hybrid standards I think.. Basically 50-75hp over stock should do, but want some room to turn the boost up for track days since a track JUST opened up in our area this summer I'm the most 'fun' way of doing this is to build an EJ255 shortblock with the EJ205 heads, creating a hybrid STI.. I've read the early EJ255 pistons have more dish so when used with the 2.0L heads they have closer to stock compression than EJ257 pisto…

The turbo blocks are very hard to find, and i dont plan on using more than 10psi. i've been reading around and people say the N/A block cant handle more than 12psi. Sorry, no source, but if someone could back that up that'd be great. Also, gonna buy a forged crank, Eagle con rods, Wiseco pistons, EJ25D heads. I hate that i dont keep track of sources -.- I read on another forum someone who built a turbo ej22 the exact same way i want too. 10psi boost, forged crank and rods, (dont know exactly what name brands) Ej25 heads, and it seemed to be working pretty good for him running the stock N/A pistons. I guess if you use the low comp heads from a 96 EJ25D it lowe…

Have a 95 2.2L Legacy with 130K miles. Light comes on and stays on after few minutes. Went to A/Z and tried to have them "erase the stored" codes etc. No sucess! M/C is full. We live in Mts and wife's car and front rotors have a slight warp as there is vibration when braking moderately . Issue?? Plenty of pad left and not any "tell tale" contact. I used air and brake cleaner to remove all dust etc without removing sensors. I tried to remove one of them by removing one stud flange but was unsucessful. It looked as if it should pull up but after tapping it appeared to be very tight and due to age possibly slightly coroded? What a sentence!!! Any suggestion for…

Hey guys, I am a new member and also new to subarus and I have recently fallen in love with the legacy outback. I prefer the '99 model with dual sunroofs. I dream of building one with a goal of around 600 horsepower. I live in NY and would be driving this car daily. You guys seem to know your stuff, how close to reality can I hope to get. I hope to be buying the car in a few months(got some liscense issues to clear up first)...

So I this thought while laying in bed last night... First off im kind've familiar with how a true.sequential turbo set up works with the check valve and dropping the primary turbo out after the secondary turbo kicks in. but.... what if you run your exhaust in the primary turbo and out just as it would normally function, then run the compressed air from the primary turbo into the exhaust side of the secondary turbo but Instead of dumping that "spent gas" out the exhaust run it to intake and then run the compressed air from the secondary turbo just as you normally would to the intake. I would assume one could just use a "y"" pipe to connect the intake to the two turbos. …

I have a 2006 model Subaru Impreza. I made several modification works on it and had engine service from one Subaru engine repair shop in Edmonton. Now I am thinking of changing the mufflers. I have to choose a muffler which will not affect the power and mileage of the vehicle. Also I need to know whether changing exhaust system affects the vehicle?
