  1. or check AC compressor for vibration, the bearings in them go about this miles too....if so, cut the belt off. hope it is something easy.
  2. could be front pulley separating. My 94 wagon has that going on now too, fairly typical after being that old.
  3. Subaru trans front diff is open. So when you attach your custom axles to the Subaru trans, you still only got one axle turning and the other not. Your first thread post does not say what you were going to attach the custom made axles to...I assume the subaru trans,...which is open. how you gonna have front locker?
  4. I talked on phone with previous legit owner..this one was supposed to be sent to scrap...she missed the car (it was the best car they ever had til problems developed) and when i said had been driving it, she was like, "oh damn " that they sent off for scrap never got it running right.....I told her I would give it some some love, and maybe drive it to her to see one day......
  5. oh so coo, I am going to be owner of a 85 EFI Xtracab with 22re and solid axles, with roll bar, push bar, tow hitch, and back topper at the end of December it will be mine.. It has 33" tires, lockers, on-board AC compressor, etc, and fully reconditioned and west coast no rust. cannot wait to post it once it arrives. also has heated seats power windows sunrrof, new brakes, new everything. I will be selling some of my stuff to pay for it.
  6. do you have any documentation sources? Man this sucks. I will have to cross anything after 2004 off my list now, even though I whole heartedly attempted to give one a try, for 4 months....and it was the worst subaru i ever had when compared to what i was used to.
  7. ok think i have the answer. the outside latch handle, under the red reflecter, the handle you pull on to open it, is rusted and sticking, so it is not fully releasing after you pull it. check that, press the handle back after opening, then close. refurbish as needed with pb blaster, wd 40, oil etc.
  8. Are the rubber bumper cushions still there? check for those maybe they are gone or the wrong ones. Mine have no adjustment, so you cannot unscrew them like what you could a hood stopper.
  9. odd thing without a sunroof. Do you keep the doors locked? maybe some bum and his drunk buddies who had wet pants came to get out of the rain and sit in a nice dry car?? Or, how is the top of your windshield check the top edge for leaks with a hose, or sit in it next rain storm and look at the top edge near the headliner and the side pillars.
  10. 92 check, legacy check, outback no check. what do you have? cannot be a 92 outback is all. we need more accurate info to help.
  11. Did you burp the coolant? heads etc don't normally warp on these Subaru engines. your compression is fine maybe 150 would be better on all but not a worry there. I would say burp the coolant like said, and you should be okay.
  12. The help from nasioc?
  13. yeap it is 110% better than new on all mechanicals, but my dad cheaped on hood and bumper repair so that is not but 90% to new, rest of the car is better than new. On my 94LGT, i drrove 160miles now on the gas gauge fix, i am just under the half mark....so maybe i didnt instal needle high enough. I would thinkg after 160 miles, i would be on half, not just under...
  14. I am a big fat meany. oh yeah. I think CA is a place to not even look at modding a car. just due to the emissions/inspections. Go ahead, do it, then you have to move, or sell the car.
  15. Um you do know that Intercoolers are for cars with a Turbo right? Do you have a turbo? I might suggest go join the http://www.nasioc.com and ask the question there too, get faster response.
  16. you can buy my parents black forester 5spd next year after they gets a new one.
  17. The windshield does NOT need be out to pull a dash out on EA81, nor to put one in. Are you sure your leak isn't the control valve, instead of the entire core. the control valve is separate, and I have seen leaks there when the core is fine You do not want to have to ship a dash. They are large, and heavy I had a estimate from USPS to ship mine like 125 miles and the cost was over 200 just to ship. I sold the new dash for 85 and the person met me halfway. I have changed the dash and the windshield remained in the car. Might be a little easier with glass out, but that is entirely wrong to say it has to be out.
  18. If you paid some dealer to replace the horn, and it still not working, the obvious solution is to go back to the place and let them do it right. Maybe they just charged you to replace something, but maybe they never did. Not unheard of.
  19. Getting good parts might be difficult after the result of the Tsunami. Manufacturing was interrupted and may never be the same for many years to come in Japan. That is where a lot of parts come from regardless if the car is made here or not. Due to the Tsunami shutdown of places making parts, now they may be rushing them out at a pace that will cause bad batches. They may even be going thru a different supplier, and that could result in bad parts too.
  20. ^ Not true. They were a rare option, in the chrome. Heck even McBrat had a set on his blue brat. So please, stop saying they didn't exist when they did. that is fact. and a 14"jackman source: http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/wheels/wheels.html
  21. removed the stock wheels. Recently I got a set of 4 Winterforce snows on craigs for 100 bucks. Yesterday I had my friend mount them on my spare 94SS wheels from Mick's car. Now, I hope it snows soon.
