The Backyard Boys at play - BIG Air
bushbasher replied to byb555's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Man, do you think you could hook us up with a couple hi res shots? This is definitely wallpaper worthy! -
I don't know, I smell photochop. Theres some fishy areas on that pic that dont make sense to me. The rear pillar that you can see through the rear hatch doesnt seem like it exists on the other side, the rear window is fuzzy on the edges in the middle where the original xt rear glass would turn into wagon glass. Then the lighting is funny on the very rear pillar.

The toughest bit I think would be getting it to handle as good as an sti while still being a bearable daily driver. You are dealing with an inferior suspension design, so you would have to go stiff and low to compensate. Then theres the geometry to figure out. You could end up with a car that gets numbers on the skidpad and slalom that are as good as an sti, but without the manners/balance/predictability that an sti has.

how do you plan to recreate the wood grain? I can't wait to see the finished result! -
'91 Loyale 4WD wagon suspension questions
bushbasher replied to grindstaff's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
a worn out strut insert (shock absorber) won't affect the ride height, only the bouncyness. however, struts or coilovers transplanted from other models, or different brands of aftermarket can affect ride height because of different springs, spring cup locations or different tube lengths. A sagging spring will also cause the ride height to drop. If the car was parked for a very long period of time on uneven ground the springs could have sagged differently. I'm sure you'd notice if your frame was bent enough to show a visible change in ride height. My guess is that you've got mismatched struts/coilovers. -
is ea-82 a good engine???
bushbasher replied to spycho_clown's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ea82s are good motors, but not the best of both worlds in terms of reliability vs performance. ea81s are slow, simple, but rugged. Ej22s are powerful and high tech. The ea82 is middle ground. -
youd just be shifting the motor backwards so that the axles drive the rear wheels. It would still run in the right direction

all wheel steering
bushbasher replied to soobiescoobie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
infinit q45s have computer controlled 4 wheel steering as an option. My parents car does not, and are glad to be without it and all the extra problems associated (computer, sensors, hydraulic pump, hydraulic steering ram...) -
88rxsedan, the ea81 heads have one port going out of the head for exhaust, one port into the head for intake. As in one pipe bolts to the head for an intake, and one pipe bolts onto the head for exhaust. Not just 2 valve/cyl. Plus the heads do not have enough room to do alot of porting. With ram performance custom heads, high compression, a cam, and a better crank you could possibly see 200. mpfi heads have two intake ports but still just one exhaust port.
-
I think that the fact that your head has one intake port and one exhaust port is going to prevent you from hitting 200 Are er27 heads almost exactly the same as ea82? Can they have the same cracking problems? Do they run all 3 exhaust valves into one exhuast port? These er27s are curious motors!

how toed in is it right now? You might be able to just slot the bracket bolt holes, and tighten the bolts down really good.
-
moving the diagonal forward would toe the wheels out. How many degrees toe out? I dont think it would change the track too much, if you only want a few degrees. edit for clarity
-
I wanna see a twin turbo er27 or eg33 Are the er27 blocks similiar enough that you could use ea82t pistons to lower the CR?
-
I just ran outside and looked at my suspension arms. The only way to change toe in as I can see is to either change the mounting points for the diagonal arms further towards the tube. Or cut the diagonal arm and remove some length, then weld it back together. Either way I think it will involve cutting and welding. And it wont be purely a toe-in change. It will pull the wheel a bit closer into the car.

the temperature of the water when it hits the ic makes little difference. What cools the ic is the refrigeration effect as the water evaporates. edti: Unless of course you are really hosing it down with water

im assuming and hoping those chains are very temporary, because 1.) I wouldnt trust home depot swing set chain to hold me in my seat in a crash. 2.) Im pretty sure there isn't a single safety inspector that would let you autocross with it, and 3.) its just plain nasty lookin. I wouldnt want to be in the back seat in an accident either, for fear of broken chain links whipping around after being subjected to thousands of pounds of tension. LOL Get that corbeau and a bar across and then you're off to the races.

the cambridge soundworks stuff just uses rca connections not rca wire. Its standard speaker wire after the connection. I was thinking of doing the same with my cambridge computer system, but I use the 4 point surround more in Battlefield 1942, DC, and Vietnam. It makes a huge difference in gameplay to know where the shots are coming from by ear! I did a test on my self, switching the speaker connections, and I couldnt play for crap cause I'd spin to the wrong location expecting an enemy.

maybe a valvetrain problem is what caused the belt to snap in the first place?
-
I dont think you'd ever get those single port heads to flow that much. The weber is more than adequate for a built ea81 or ea82.
-
I also think you'd be seeing alot of blue smoke if it was going out the exhaust, unless synthetic doesnt make blue smoke. (that would make a good trick for getting rid of your worn out beaters ) The only way I could see you losing that much oil from leaking and not see it is if theres a hose pointing right down at the ground, and it only squirts when you drive.

That pretty much fits along with what I've heard. I've only heard from my dad, who got to drive a mangusta once, that the mangustas handle like pigs. But then again he compares everything with his lotus Somewhere else I heard that they have a kind of "kit car" feel to them.

Gas / Trunk release cable
bushbasher replied to jimbo747's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mine just broke, so I bent the tab back so that the gas door never actually clicks closed. You just have to pry at it with a finger. Try that. If it doesnt work bend the tab back, no big loss. The cable goes under the carpets and seats and everything, I could imagine it would be a tough fix. I've got my interior completely removed, but I don't think I'll bother, not any gas theft problems around here. -

Now that's the attitude required to make the ultimate rig And while I'm at it, good luck to you and your fellow soldiers in Iraq.
