I'd have to change my dream sube to a turbo legacy sedan with an elusive legacy DR tranny Subarubrat! You had a Pantera eh? Im curious to know what you think of them, if nobody minds a quick little hijack

The Hatch Patrol story-the unveiling(with pics)

my lips are sealed when it comes to the pirate board. Heck I've gotten sick of those guys anyways. -
My ultimate street sube would be a legacy turbo sedan or any jdm turbo soob that never made it here. For off-roading, I think a mid 80s brat Gl would rock, followed up close by a wagon like mine. Though the hatches lower overhang would be nice.

hahaha any of you guys seen this?

I know your excited, but you're in the heart of subyland. The right subaru will come along, you probably won't have to travel very far. -

My friend's parents are going to france this summer, I think I've talked him into turning his lower field into a redneck rallyx circuit (same place I killed the twagon) Between my good friends there are probably about 10 total beaters that could be hauled down there for a good time. The ones I can think of off the top of my head are an 80s chevy chevette, 80s v8 camaro, vw rabbit, a vw beetle, some dodge colts (my friend mixes and matches his collection to keep a few running), a rusty mazda pickup. I have a feeling this may end up as a demo derby We could probably do some jumpability comparisons then. I don't think I'll be too hard on my new wagon. Its alot nicer than the old one. -

Oh you guys don't know how much freakin fun it is to jump these things. What you see there was almost an exact replication of the reason for the death of my turbowagon Dont worry it was a complete rust bucket, with 370 000k and a plethora of problems. It died a proper rally death. That was probably the first time the motor had ever seen rpms in excess of 7grand  -

31s are not hard to fit against the stock strut. I've got some 30x9.5s on 15x7 rims with about an 1.5" more offset than than a subaru rim (measuring depth from the outside face to the lip) and I am about 0.75" from hitting the bottom spring plate. So zap, are you content with your rigs setup right now or are you thinking about stepping up to the next level? -
I asked so many annoying, rehashed questions when I first came on, but now I do my best to help answer all the new ones , it's only fair. So don't mention it!

Oh I suppose front axle swaps will come around someday. Hmmm, I wonder what front sas and rear ifs would drive like :-p -
all cars with the newer squarish body style have ea82s, all the cars with the old more rounded body style have ea81s there are ea82 wagons, 3door coupes, and 4door sedans there are ea81 brats, hatchbacks, coupes, wagons, and sedans
-
just for clarity, brats and hatches had ea81s until 87

What is this exhaust thing on my EA-81??
bushbasher replied to Hocrest's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Air injection pumps air into the exhaust to promote continued burning of the exhaust gases, increasing exhaust temps, and leaving big ugly rusty things on the bottom of the exhaust ports. There is the vacuum style like yours that uses the exhaust flow to suck in air, or theres pump driven ones. -

From the way he and the rest of us subaru off road freaks used to talk about solid axles, I would never have believed he would be the first to put one in his rig . But the truth is, the ifs has so many parts that are all only slightly stronger than each other, so trying to beef it is a pain in the arse. And for what? a few extra inches of clearance and and sentimental value? Even if people decide it's not really a subaru anymore, theres still just as much fun to be had in that rig now, if not more! edit: so those rear shackles look like they were mounted where the old tow hooks bolt in? I will never be able to do a sas in my wagon, because my t-case is to far rearward, making the rear driveshaft way to short to be flexing. -
OK. Let's talk about this picture.
bushbasher replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
those rims look great on the brat though! Are they aftermarket or off of a stock truck? -
meh the rust rubs off pretty fast, I've never worried about it.

bushbasher replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well to my eyes the hub centers don't look stock in the back. It may be my eyes tricking me. I also doubt ken would put a solid axle in. hmmm.... -
what's a crank angle sensor???
bushbasher replied to Buddythedog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my haynes manual shows an error code for the crank angle sensor, this is on an ea82 efi engine. I actually got a crank angle sensor code once, but it disappeared and never came back? The crank angle would be on the distributor right? -
so was that out of an impreza like the guy says, or a legacy platform? Maybe he was swapping it into a legacy and thats why its on there?

Trying NOT to cry over smashed XT.
bushbasher replied to XT Fan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh I want one, but definitely not as much as an elise. Besides, if I got a wrx it would look a little different than the others. It would be lifted an inch or so with some rally tires, and dust and mud sprayed all over the sides. -

im surprised you aren't suggesting a wrx or sti, its got a back seat, its cheaper, nearly as quick, more daily driver friendly, and better handling *on varied terrain my dad used to own a 1969 lotus europa, which was basically the early precursor to this car. 1200lbs, but only 70hp. It could apparently pull in excess of 1g in the corners. -

The lotus elise/exige completely defines my view of what a real sports car should be.
