I was confused by the two blacks as well, i used a voltmeter to test which one was ground. The stock speaker wiring seems very strange, I could never figure out how to get them hooked to the right channels on the stereo. That and there were less speaker wires than speakers. Do they use common wires or something?

Dent Removal (pic added)
bushbasher replied to 88xt6joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it may lift shallow creaseless dents such as those caused by people sitting on your hood etc, but only the kind of shallow dent that would pop back if you pushed on it from the other side by hand. So its basically useless. -
import it into canada then move up here or buy a vacation house up here so you can drive it Anything goes up here... you would have to deal with insurance alot to get it inspected, it must have km/h speedo and all that, you might have to get a drivers side airbag from another impreza if this one doesnt have one... stuff like that.

stupid rain gutter design
bushbasher replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ya that is annoying. You know whats more annoying? A leaky sunroof that fills the whole roof full of water, and when you hit the brakes you get a few cups of ice cold water down your neck :madder: this is in my dads honda. -
new t-case possibility *UPDATE*

nivas aren't bad from what I've seen, a guy I know has one. He puts it through hell and says that the myths about unreliable ladas aren't even close to true. From the number of them that are still around here, I believe him. What I will give is that their body fit and finish is horrible. Oh well, for 6000 US you can get a brand new Samara hatchback with warranty, and about 9-10 000 US gets you a new Niva 4x4. -
Any Le Canadiens on this board?
bushbasher replied to LegacyT's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Theres me out on Vancouver Island. I've only ever seen 1 (gen2)brat out here on the island. Theres friggin loyales and wagons everywhere though, a few rx's, lots of new gen. I would say the ea82 wagon is the most popular single model of import out here. -

my source? Some guy is just selling a pile-o-parts out of his yard on island4x4.com and I i saw that in the list, then did some googlin' to find out more info. I call dibs on this one, but I have no idea where there are any more lying around. I don't know much about Nivas other than what their transfer case looks like, I'm gonna phone the guy tomorrow, I'll try to remember to ask him. -
Those clutches do look cool... sorry for cluttering up the posts but it wouldn't let me delete my posts

like 30 bucks. Lada Nivas are fairly rare, and I don't know if they were sold in the states, so I'm hoping this one never breaks if I use it. I think there is a lada dealer somewhere on vanc island, used to be one right here in sooke... so i can get parts. I might bump my lift up to 4" body 2" suspension and chop the tranny tunnel If I have to. -
I'd like to see a pulley clutch system lol Hes not on crack he's just creative. I dont get the adding ceramic disc part though

On a local 4x4 msg board I found a lada niva divorced t-case for 40cdn, check this out... it is ft4wd with center diff-lock, 1.2:1 high range reduction, with a low range reduction of just over 2:1 It is less tall than the nissan case, is pretty much up and down style, with a flange outputs that look to be the same as subaru/nissan (Russia is metric right ) I've seen nivas surviving around here on 31" + tires and nivas weigh around 2700 so I think this thing could hold up. Just letting you know, I don't know how many nivas there are down in the states though I'm gonna buy it and nothings gonna stop me. I bet I could shoehorn this thing under a 4" lift, and the shifters are very simple

Turbo cam on carb car
bushbasher replied to stephenw22's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i can confirm that with my desktop dyno program -
165km/h is all I can claim with the old turbowagon, it had a fairly tired motor (misbehaving headgasket, almost 400 000k km) 165 turns out to be a hair over 100mph I think, it sure felt like more

12 inch lift pics, daylight pics of the new paintjob *Updated pics*
bushbasher replied to subarubrat's topic in Off Road
I have a feeling with that size tire your gonna either have to think of some ingenious way of using a different diff, or submit and put a toyota rear end. With your 200 or close hp, 33 inch tires, and a transfer case, you are going so far past stock that I don't think any automaker has ever put in a drivetrain that can cope with such a great increase in load over stock. 2x hp, 2x reduction, 1.5x tire size, I'm thinking you could break stubs at will even on ice But If you get around that, that is a damn mean brat, able to drive over a sedan, no scraping involved -
ball joints?
-
I dont see any terminal rust issues, the rear corner would take a bit of beating and bondo, but you could put new fenders on the front. I still think it'd make a good bush-basher, time to branch out into the off-road scene!

looks like a good candidate for bobbing, a lift, 28s and flat black paint!

Clunking noise when changing gear
bushbasher replied to lavo96's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Perhaps you mean EA82, which is alot more likely, and it's only 1.8l a 2.0l subaru motor would be an EJ20. The ea82 engine most likely came stock in your vehicle. I would think that bad motor/tranny mounts would be the reason for the clunk, but I would think the affects of it would be felt in the shifter more than the steering, perhaps something else is wrong, like your lift blocks are flexing or something? What about the engine pitch rod, it is a locating rod that bolts between the firewall and top of the motor. If that is missing or the bushings are gone that might be the culprit. -
BRAT PICS finally... plus, goodbye cuda!
bushbasher replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh and my other friend's grandparents own a mint (and I mean MINT) original cuda convertible. Has every desirable option except for the v8, its got a 6 too. The car is parked in their living room. -
BRAT PICS finally... plus, goodbye cuda!
bushbasher replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my friend just sold a late 60s cuda with the commando 273 with headers and a big carb on it. That thing could outrun a new mustang gt with ease. -
I am speaking from experience with my 6" lifted turbowagon, which did handle reasonably. On the twisty bad roads around here that's about as far as I'd want to go with a lift. With a welded rear diff and no swaybars that thing would bring the rump roast around real easy in the rain if you weren't paying attention. 12" would scare me unless i had wide tires and high offset rims like subarubrat.

87 RX Turbo loss of power
bushbasher replied to greggbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it can definitely f them up. It won't be TOO loud to disconnect, youve still got some pipe before the turbo, and the turbo to muffle it a bit.
