  1. HA! I spent 10 years acquiring the parts to make this shitheap happen. It wont be leaving my possession while I'm still breathing I have a backup chassis in white, and after that i would probably move it all to a 1st gen imp. My close friend (drives a 323gtx) has been trying to convince me to pay one of the Chinese forges to replicate the adapter a dozen times. the rest of the parts are modified subaru.
  2. We have run two gamblers in it so far, and I've been daily driving it for the last 6mo or so. It gets run hard at the ORV park at least once a month, and the only casualties so far are clutches. I took a bunch of footage the last run out at the ORV park, ill post it up as soon as I trim out all the fat.
  3. I would have made more of an effort to keep the hood intact if the car hadn't been built in 6 days in order to run the Washington Gambler500. On the other hand, the car has been totaled multiple times, and rescued from a field, so really anything is better than that fate
  4. I bought the adapter plate and flywheel about a decade ago. It was a small batch casting, unknown manufacture. The flywheel is a subaru unit, redrilled to the mazda pattern and the center opened up to slip onto the mazda counterweight. Everything else is stock subaru parts. The australian Subarugears guys make a rotary adapter, but they want new $1000 for it last i saw.

  7. The chassis started life as an '87 Subaru XT 4cyl turbo AWD. It was the highest trim level available in that year, and the most aerodynamic production car at the time. My dad bought it in the early 2000s and daily drove it for 100,000Mi or so. It has been totaled out three times by various insurance companies, and when the headgaskets went at 250K, he parked it in a field.   8. Kind of short notice, but if i get a chance I will swing by in the legwag. I have property out that way, so i drive through the orv park regularly. If you see a burgundy 2nd gen legwag on OB struts and bigger tires give a honk and a wave Isaac
  9. Make sure to use the OB rear trailing link brackets as well, in order to correct the rear wheel/wheelwell geometry.
  10. check the clamps that connect the rubber fuel lines to the hardline at the manifold. I fix 3-4 a year for people complaing of gas smell when warming up. Isaac
  11. I have had great success with the DTA axles, they are all new materials, no reman. The only axles besides low mileage stockers that dont vibrate in drive while stopped in my auto cars are the DTA's. Isaac
  12. The autocrossers and roadracers put a lot of stress on things, but it cant compare to the extra leverage a lift block can apply.
  13. The early gen guys weld in fender washers to spread the load on the framerail better. The better solution would probably be to add "C" channel to the framerails, that is what I did on my ej rear suspension into ea81 swap. Isaac

"trailing arm" bracket, thanks that is the word I was looking for There is no way the outback tires are 4in larger than the legacy stuff, any increase in the tire gets halved as only half the tire adds lift below the alxe line. A stock legacy tire is ~24.3in diameter, whereas a stock outback tire is ~26.3, the difference is ~2in, half of that is below the axle line and adds 1in of lift, while the other half is above and adds nothing. Think about it. As far as the struts go, I have done three 96-99 outback strut onto 96-99 base legacy strut swaps over the last few years, and they have all yielded ~1.5in (+/- 1/4in) of actual lift, measured at the fender lip pre and post lift. there is my $.12 (adjusted for inflation) Isaac
  15. 95-99 outback struts on a 95-99 base legacy give a little over an inch of lift, grab the rear lateral link brackets as well. switching to outback tire sizes vs. the legacy size gives you almost another inch. I have 20k mi on outback struts in my 99 legacy with no lift blocks, axles are fine. Isaac
  16. I just rolled over 20k mi on my frankenmotor. It is a phase 1 ej25d bottom end, single year '99 phase 2 ej223 heads, and ej25d headgaskets. The heads appeared milled, but I never measured them. This motor has significantly more low end torque than the ej22 that came out (and it was the pinnacle of ej22s, a '99 phase 2) I am constantly surprised by how well it moves my boat of a legwag around. Isaac edit: Mine is also run on the stock '99 ecu, and it works beautifully, although 99 was a MAP based setup so I imagine it is significantly more versatile than the earlier MAF ecus.
  17. ej25d phase 1 block, phase 2 ej22 heads, delta cam, headers... enjoy your 12.5:1 compression and loads of torque.
  18. EJ25D pistons have the big square tub in the centers, 99 ej22(single year/roller rocker) pistons are essentially flat, I have a set in the shop. I have built two seperate frankenmotors in the past few years, and several non-franken motors for different projects, I can tell you with the utmost certainty that the phase 1 pistons protrude from the deck. None of the phase 2 blocks have pistons that protrude, hence the much thinner headgaskets. Where the confusion stems from I believe is that several aftermarket piston manufacturers sell pistons that are for phase 1/2 blocks, and as such, do not protrude from a phase 1 deck. I have built motor for people using these and I do not like them (DNJ mostly). The other confusing point is that good ol' SoA used phase 2 blocks to replace bad phase 1 warranty replacement blocks quite often. I have pulled several of these motors apart in the last few years.   19. This is incorrect, the Phase 1 pistons protrude from the block about .5mm, while the phase 2 pistons do NOT. Isaac
  20. I watched the rust in the wind build when they first started, I imagine it was a bit easier in the brat without the constraints of "this has to fit under the rear glass/trunk." the more ej suspensioned ea's the better Isaac
  21. Do you have a factory sunroof? Both my legacies used to fill all the hatch areas with water due to those damned hoses that run through the c pillars being cracked. Isaac
  22. The latest time sucker was building a new motor for my dd legwag, it suffered a catastrophic failure(but got a high comp frankenmotor in return) Back to the rotary sube! I whipped up a tranny mount out of some scrap I had, it uses the stock rx rubber mount, and provides a nice spot to route the exhaust as well The stock legacy trailing arms fit towards the outside of the legacy body, which is significantly wider than the little leone coupe. The centerline of the legacy stuff was about even with the leone pinch weld, they also have a goofy "S" curve to clear the wheel tire. Having stacks of rx parts is a bonus, and the lower rx7 trailing link is a perfect fit for the inside of the subaru arm. I fabbed up mounts for the body end that bolt to the stock coupe torsion bar mount, and are sized for rx trailing link bushings. With some measurements and a quick jig (not pictured), I whipped up hybrid trailing arms. The other two torsion bar mount hole will hold the diff snout carrier, which is the next project. Isaac
