New person with ER27 / Syncro project
carfreak85 replied to tjet's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Nice to see you made the migration from NASIOC, you should find all the help you need with the ER27 on this forum. -
Looking for a working knock sensor for an '87+ EA82T, part number: 22060AA010. What do you suggest? @GeneralDisorder Are there any crossover parts from Nissan? Let me know what you've got.

LOYALE Engine Codes 24 and 34: Air Control, EGR
carfreak85 replied to Ocarand's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
@DaveT Do you know the part number for the Toyota part? I've got a code 34 on my EA82T. -
I have had this discussion many times over and actually chewed out a coworker of mine this morning for blinding me as he followed me into the parking lot. The fact that Diode Dynamics put this out should tell you all you need to know. You can't cheat physics and putting an HID or LED light source in a halogen housing will only result in poor performance. Use brighter bulbs, rewire your system, retrofit your headlamps but for the love of all that is Subaru, DO NOT PUT HID/LED BULBS IN A HALOGEN HOUSING!

Don't. As a design engineer for an OEM, I can tell you that we have analyzed those types of additives and they will end up doing more harm than good. The best advice from this post is to source a spare pump that you can install or rebuild. If the pump/lines/rack from the donor car aren't coated in PS fluid, you can just install the replacement pump. I agree with Numbchux, just keep adding ATF or replace it with a used pump. I would also suggest putting a wrench on all the hose unions and clamps on the hydraulic system to make sure the leak isn't something that just needs a little tightening.

Finally got around to scanning the instructions that came with my NOS factory fog lamps. I did some (light) investigation and there doesn't seem to be a good way to wire these to turn on without the headlamps also being turned on. Hope this can help some people out! Bubbling in coolant reservoir
carfreak85 replied to MTNjohnny's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think that was only for the EA81s and EJs. From what I remember cracks between valves on EA82s (especially the turbos) was a death sentence. @GeneralDisorder any thoughts on that? -
Thanks! Like any old car it's an ongoing project and I've got some pretty major updates to make in the next few months (once I'm done updating my shop). Your 3-door is so much cleaner than mine it's almost not fair! I think I blew the center diff last summer so the car has basically been sitting since June 2019. While I was diagnosing the drivetrain I pulled the BCs and installed the Ohlins, but had to have a few parts custom machined to get the fitment I wanted with the 05-09 Legacy coilovers. The Ohlins don't have adjustable lower mounts like the BCs did, so I won't be able to go as low, but my plan for the car has always been about outright speed so pavement-scraping ride height was never on the table. You can keep up to date on my progress and take a look at the custom coilover parts on my IG @templeoffuji

I love that there is another member still trying to go fast in a vintage Subaru! We parked beside one another at the Old School Reunion several years ago, I have the maroon EJ-swapped 3-door, had gold outback wheels at that show. I would be interested to see how those BCs hold up on track, I pulled the ones that came on my 3-door and replaced them with Ohlins off an 05-09 Legacy.

They were a marketing tool for the BRAT when it was launched. Could win one in a raffle and eventually I think you could buy them.

I recently had the wheels sand blasted and powder coated, installed new innertubes and sawtooth tires, but one of the tubes has a pinhole leak. Follow along on Instagram @templeoffuji.

Is subaruxt.com gone?

Any updates on this saga? -
Those were the scenarios I was running through my head. Not too keen on regreasing, but pressing a new bearing on would be amenable. Yeah, if you've got part numbers that would be great!

What brand and part number of tensioners do you folks prefer now that the supply of OEM tensioners has dried up? @GeneralDisorder
