  1. You're right about this community being budget conscious. Having spent the better part of two decades playing on this forum has driven that home. I'm not looking to make a living selling hot rod parts for vintage Subarus, but I needed three of the parts I designed just to put the RX-RA back off the ground and off of jack stands. I'll have to take a look at those tonight. That was a worry of mine as well, but the only dimension that could affect that is the diameter of the shock shaft, which would change dimensions on three of the parts I've designed. The lower rear mounts are all designed for the same hardware, regardless of who manufactures the coilover, and the fronts are the same sort of situation. I'd love to get my hands on a couple different brands of coilovers to test this theory, or at least have people take some measurements for me.
  2. I know there are many folks modifying their EA82-chassis Subarus for style or performance. Miata shocks with coilover sleeves, legacy and impreza coilover kits, etc. These all require some level of modification to install, an issue I've recently run into with my own project car. This lead me to develop a few parts to allow a bolt-in installation of a set of coilovers to the EA82 chassis. Without going into specifics my thought is a 12-piece kit to retrofit a set of coilovers for a legacy or late-model impreza coilover kit that would allow you to simply bolt the legacy/impreza parts to your 5-lug-swapped EA82, without cutting, drilling or welding anything, reusing all your original hardware. My question is, is this something that would interest you? I'm currently prototyping parts for myself, but if there is enough interest, I'll have some extras made at the same time. I've got a few photos up on my Instagram page: @templeoffuji
  3. Funny this came up, I just watched a video on YouTube the other day about people trying to archive all the old GeoCities websites, in the exact context that we're discussing www.subaruxt.com
  4. The fitment issue is with the white 8-spoke steel wheels. The early ones with curved spokes contact the brakes on an EA82 (which has straight spokes). I've never seen or heard of alloy wheels having this issue, so the H-style wheels should fit.
  5. I had tried to join that site a couple years ago when I thought I'd be dragging home a project XT6. Never did get the admins to approve my request to join...
  6. Wow. When 'Chux starts throwing haymakers you know it's time to lock the thread!
  7. Try doing some tests on the fuel pressure regulator. You have the EA81 factory service manual and EA81T supplement, correct?
  8. Wow, looks like it's in fantastic condition! Better than mine at least!
  9. No on both questions. Hadn't rained in weeks when I drove/felt the issue and I have inspected the oil level the day before and didn't notice any top-end oil leaks at the time.
  10. Testing it would be difficult, as it's a one-shot sort of deal. I drive her car often enough that I would notice it immediately, but I've only really noticed it the one time. It feels like a temporary fuel cut, to be honest. Accelerating away from our driveway the car will just bog really hard for a second or two, then bounce back like nothing happened. @GeneralDisorder Every seen/heard of this?
  11. Last weekend I experienced a phenomena that my wife has described in the past but I'd never noticed/felt/been lucky enough to be in the car when it happened. Apparently when the car has been sitting overnight and is cold she will back it out of the driveway, shift into gear to drive away. The instant it shifts into second gear, the engine bogs hard, like it just ran out of fuel. The car only does this once, and only after sitting over night. It doesn't do it when she's backing up, or when she first hits the throttle to drive away after shifting into drive. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
  12. Did you punch out the hole in the OEM top hat? IIRC the original shock has an M12 shaft and you're running basically an M16 with those Nissan shocks. Are those factory replacement Z32 shocks, or aftermarket coilovers?
  13. Do you have a part number of the alternator you used?
  14. Yes, from the dealership. They are still available, for now...
  15. Two engine, two transmission mounts on an EA81, plus the pitch stopper.
  16. I would happily trade you a ported set of carb'd heads for your fuel injected heads. On less place for a vacuum leak to pop up!
  17. The heads have no change on the compression. EA81Ts have lower compression pistons, the combustion chamber volume is identical, carb or turbo.
  18. This seems like the most obvious place for an issue to crop up. Drilled before or after the tires were mounted and balanced?
  19. Sounds like you've done some research, but have some of the facts mixed up. I did my MT conversion back in 2004, so things are a bit hazy, but I'll try to help. I need an 85-89 5 speed manual transmission with the dual range 4wd - Yes ea82 crossmember custom fabricated to fit into ea81 ( Contact Jerry?) - EA81 MT crossmember modified, yes Jerry, if he's still doing them ea82 pilot bearing - Pilot to match your flywheel ea82 flywheel - I needed bushings for the bolts on my EA82 flywheel, others haven't. YMMV ea82 clutch/pressure plate - Yes ea81 original tranny mounts installed onto ea82 tranny - Depends. I think Jerry uses EA81 mounts, but they're a bad design. EA82 is better, but requires more modification ea82 drive shaft (For some reason I was getting mixed signals on whether or not the driveshaft needs to be customized in some way) - I had my EA81 shaft modified, didn't want to mess with a center bearing mount ea81 MANUAL pedal box assembly with with cables (an ea82 manual pedal box will not work from what I've read??) - I prefer the EA81 MT box, others may have forced the EA82 box to work, but it's not a great fit ea82 Speedo cables? - EA81 MT cable, I think. Do more reading ea82 rear diff?? the ea81 diff is 3.7, I don't know if the ea82 is the same or a 3.9 - Doesn't matter what gen, just get one that matches your front diff gear ratio there's the whole flywheel holes being to big, but that didn't seem like a big deal - per above, I needed bushings, others haven't Also, does it matter if the tranny is from a turbo ea82? - Turbo has different number of splines on the front stub shafts than your front axles will have, but the diff gear ratio would match your EA81 AT 3.7 rear diff.
  20. I'm currently installing a set of coilovers on my 1987 GL 3-door and I was curious how other folks mount the rear coilovers in their EA82s. I've seen them installed using a mishmash of OEM and aftermarket parts, but that seems like it not only increases the ride height, but could potentially snap the shock shaft. So, what do you folks do? I've got a few ideas of my own, but I'm interested to see your solutions.
  21. I've been slowly combing through various subsystems on my RX and the most recent system to get some love was the PCV system. I found that every hose is still available, except the one that attaches directly to the PCV valve on the intake manifold. I ran down to my local auto parts store with the original hose in hand to pick through their selection of hoses. WELL! It turns out that the small heater hose from a 2002-2009 Ford Explorer (Dayco P/N 87730) is almost a perfect fit. Hose was about $7 and needed to have a small portion trimmed off. NOTE: EPDM is NOT oil safe, so until I find a better solution, I'll need to keep an eye on this hose to make sure it isn't perishing too quickly.
  22. Uhhhh…. I don't think any production Subaru has EVER had 14-15 in. rotors. STI Brembos are only like 12.1 in. or something.
