How long do soobies last?
subaru360 replied to DaveSluder's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIn my part of the country they run until they rust in half. Literally sometimes. Almost every one in the junkyards here is over 200,000 miles. We see 300,000 often.

who makes the electronic swithc for drive by wire gas pedal?
subaru360 replied to bheinen74's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's typical. The factory flash might help some. The final solution is aftermarket tuning with a tactrix cable and rom raider and ecu flash software, if you're willing to go that far.

What are Issues with Northeast EJ25>>EJ22 swaps?
subaru360 replied to wtdash's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat looks like every other subaru here in PA. Put a socket over the exhaust nuts and bang it with a hammer a few times to break the rust before you try to loosen the nuts. You'll have to pry the engine and trans apart. Start with a gasket scraper, hammmer it in between, then go to a screwdriver, then a prybar. The bodies here all rust out where the rear bumper meets the quarter panel. I deal with this stuff all day, it's not so bad. For my personal cars, I buy them from southern states and get them shipped to avoid rust. My 95 Impreza I just bought came from florida, my last wrx was from southern MD.

Engine Compatibility 96 to Current
subaru360 replied to guydakine's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX99 Impreza 2.5 RS is phase 2 as well. In 05 or 06 they added variable valve timing. You can still use those engines in older cars. It just won't work, the ecu won't control it and defaults to full lift, runs fine. Keep the intake manifold with the car. Swap it onto the new engine.

Anyone Planning on going to Carlisle this year?
You could still bring a Z car to Carlisle. If everyone else is going to give it another shot, maybe I will go again. I sold my wrx wagon and am building a new car for myself. 95 Impreza coupe with 95 jdm wrx swap. The WRX was fun, but it was just too nice for me, I was constantly worrying about something happening to it. I like sorta beater cars more. I'll be able to screw around with this without being paranoid. I still have the 360 don't worry.

RWD sedan?
subaru360 replied to Uberoo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've personally driven a FWD legacy in Maine in the snow in winter. My GF's parents had one. She hated driving it in the snow. I hated driving it in the snow. Her Mom hated driving it in the snow. It also sucked in dirt and gravel. They push (understeer) really bad. I got them an Outback to replace it. It's much, much better. With an awd subaru if it pushes in the snow, you just get on the gas, the back end comes around and you power through the turn. Not to mention you can take off without massive wheelspin.

RWD sedan?
subaru360 replied to Uberoo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFWD subarus suck in the snow. Sorry you found that out after you bought it. Convert to AWD, it all bolts in. Or sell it and buy an AWD one.

Anyone Planning on going to Carlisle this year?
1. A better turnout. 2. Security not kicking people out before I even got there. Plus honestly besides our Subarus, a few older Hondas and the random old english car, there really wasn't much else to see or do that interested me. Hundreds of Volvos, Saabs, Bmw's, Audis Mercedes etc was boring and the owners of said vehicles were generally speaking snobbish a-holes.

I'm thinking no. Last year was really bad.

Loyale or any EA82 manual steering.
Thanks. I'd like to see the top of it, where it goes up to the steering column. If it looks like it will work, I'm looking to buy one as well if anyone has one for sale.

Loyale or any EA82 manual steering.
Has anyone ever laid eyes on a Loyale or any EA82 car with manual steering? Or own one and can get a pic? Rumor on nasioc has it that these manual racks will bolt into an Impreza. I want one for my Impreza. I've been looking for one in the pick a part and haven't found one yet. All the loyales I found were PS. I did compare an EA81 manual rack to an Impreza and it was not the same. The spacing on the mounting bushings is different. The loyale and the Impreza PS racks have a wider spacing on the mounts. Supposedly the loyale manual rack does not have the bolt on extension up to the u joint like the EA81 does and the mounting bushing spacing is the same as Impreza. I saw a few loyale manual racks on Ebay, but I wanted to verify before buying what it looks like.

4.8 vs 4.2 2.2
subaru360 replied to bobaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe squared off bottom oil pan takes more oil than the rounded bottom oil pan. It's got nothing to do with reliability. You can use any EJ oil pan on any EJ engine.

WTF visit to a U Pull It
subaru360 replied to rainman19154's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNew at this huh? You need to go a little further north in PA to get to the good yards. Harry's in either Pennsburg or Hazleton has engines for $90 EZ pull in New Ringgold has them for $65 Buy them from a wrecked car so you know it runs. At harry's if there is an R on the windshield, it's an insurance auction car that ran.

Subaru 360...
It's part of the oil pump. There's a lever coming off the side of the pump with a cable attached to it. The cable can get stuck wide open if it's not adjusted right. If you are working on a 360 that's been sitting around for a long time, it is going to smoke bad, not much you can do about it. It will keep smoking until you get it out on the road and drive it hard, as in wot, for a few days to burn all the old oil out of the engine and exhaust system.
-
Subaru 360...
The oil pump has a variable rate, it's controlled by a cable that runs to the carb. It pumps less oil at idle and more at wot.

cheap skate overhaul
subaru360 replied to LegacyWagon92's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's not worth rebuilding 2.2's being that you can buy them so cheap used. Go buy a used known good running 2.2 for $200 or so. Reseal it for under $100.

Engine Swap Questions
subaru360 replied to mtskibum16's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe canister is the only real difference. I also think it was 98 when it went to the back of the car. But there are always oddball cars. The only other thing I can think of is look at the vacuum lines that lead to the inner fender, some years have one and some have 2. You don't have to change the intake for that, just hook them up in the right spot on the new engine.
